Normally, if you find a Greek pirate on MW, either in-band or up to & above 1700 kHz, you would hear them play local folk music, bouzouki, etc. But this was different.
This station on 1368 kHz is heard regularly with folk music, mixing with either Manx Radio or IRIB Radio Golestan, depending on antenna & conditions. I managed to catch an ID one day as Studio 13. However, on May 2nd, 2024, this frequency carried Orthodox Christian chants in Greek. Incidentally, in 2024, Orthodox Easter falls unusually late, on May 5th, over a month later than Catholic Easter was.
So I presume this is an Easter holiday format for Studio 13. I like it, because the chanting is really soothing. The signal was weak and marred by lots of thunderstorm noise, but this only makes the catch more magical - a Gregorian choir from far away, crushing the static. Besides, it's a diversion from what can be heard from Greece on MW normally :)
Received at 18:37-19:18 UTC May 2nd 2024 in NE Poland, during auroral conditions, using Airspy HF+ Discovery SDR & ~12x4.5m KAZ antenna pointing ~180deg. Distance to the transmitter is approximately 1267km and bearing is just about spot-on, at 177 degrees.
