I learned many things. I have been a professional for more than 40 years, and for a couple of years I have approached the night photo thanks to you. A warm greeting from a small, but famous island, in the Mediterranean Sea, in Italy. Capri

Keep up the great work Mike, I am new to the magic world of photography (about two years now) and I shoot mostly landscapes, but I learned a lot of things from your channel about the night sky and whenever I have the chance I go out and shoot the milky way. Thank you again and greetings from Greece.

Great video. I live in Maryland but I have only ever gotten Milky Way shots on west coast trips. I really need to try this out there on the East Coast.

Great job Mike. Definitely one of the better spots north of the Carolina. If you get a chance try to get out to some of the lighthouses in the Outer Banks.

Thanks! Yeah I have some amazing shots from The outer banks. Another favorite beach location of mine on the East coast.

yo i’m going up near salisbury MD in mid-august on a road trip. i’ve lived in bottle 6.5-8 my entire life and have never seen the milky way ever so i am extremely excited because my family plan to go to assateague seashore at night and see the MW for the first time : D thank you for the incredible guide 😊 i hope there aren’t many tourists around but i think i’m going at the worst peak season 😅
@Milkywaymike3 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome!! Hopefully you get a couple clear nights. Summer time there will be plenty of tourists, however at night it shouldn’t be an issue since most people go to bed or chill inside

Milky Way Mike great to hear! yeah i hope weather doesn’t ruin it. by then i plan to have a 6” Dob scope with me so i can view more DSOs, so it’ll be real sad if clouds fuck everything up. i’m also buying an LG V40 for like $90 off ebay because they can do 30 second exposures :O the results i see online are pretty damn impressive. i’m gonna test it on Bortle 4.5 skies about half hour north of me on a couple weeks !

Hi Mike, thanks for the helpful video. Would you know if one could hammock camp at Assateague Island? Thank you!
@Milkywaymike3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching... I’m not sure where you would hang it... do you have a stand or something to hang the hammock? If you do I think that should be fine but double check by calling the Assateague Island Rangers to verify.

If you go to the Bay Side camping in the Back Bountry, there are trees I believe. I have only been to the ocean side sites (no trees) in the summer. They recommend not to go to the Bay in the summer because of the bugs. Spring and Fall is good for the Bay. Back Country is different than the Drive Up camp sites.

Is there a hotel nearby for those who want to see the sky but don't want to camp?

Thanks for all your info and guidance, Mike. I'm a semi-long time follower, first time commenter. I'm headed to Ocean City, MD for a family vacation in just over two weeks (arriving June 20th) and I'm hoping to sneak out one night for some night sky photography. Do you think I'll have any luck in Assateague this time of year? Or is it too late in the season for compositions such as the Naturalist's Shack you mentioned?
@Milkywaymike3 жыл бұрын
On the 20th you'll be competing with the moon but I if you have a clear night I would still go out. The night sky in Assateague is amazing even if the moon is out. Obviously the milky way won't be as visibly strong, but you still may be able to get a little bit of detail. Also you can use the moonlight to light up the Shack or other possible find some wild ponies!

What focal length did you use for the fence photo? Love the composition!
