The black/blue is actually connected to the existing starter motor solenoid, I expect. I'm surprised you're adding a starter motor relay - it should be unnecessary. According to my Haynes Manual, the starter solenoid is mounted on the starter motor and connects the battery to the starter motor. So the solenoid looks after the high current, not the black/blue wire. All the best, Rob

Hey Rob, you’re quite right I mis-spoke in the video. Should have said starter solenoid rather than starter motor. We would certainly need much thicker wires than this to directly switch on the starter motor! I used the relay for 2 reasons: 1) Because somewhere I read that this particular push button switch is rather cheap and nasty so might have even struggled with the circuit to the starter solenoid (which I believe draws maybe 10A or so). 2) I’ve never wired in a relay and one comes with the kit so I thought it would be a good learning experience. Whether point (1) is actually correct and whether the relay is definitely needed I’m not sure. I’ve seen other videos out there where it wasn’t used and there seemed to be no problem. This is a very early foray into automotive electrics for me and sadly I can’t claim any further expertise than this!
