This is the Full review of the Android TV Box MX III that features the Amlogic S802.
Comparison with the Amlogic S812.
Benchmarked using Geekbench 3, Antuntu, SpeedTest. 3D Mark.
Played 1080P and 4K videos on XBMC and Kodi and tested on games Cars, Despicable Me, Beach Buggy, Asphalt 8 and GT Racing 2.
Also mirrored my Iphone, Ipad and Imac to this Android TV Box.
Although the MX III has some great benchmarks results not all seem to be according to the real performance of the device as you may see on the performance tests using real world apps.
Specially if you are thinking of getting this device to play games you should take a look at some of the cons.

Robert Fraser Humm, you will need a wireless remote to be able to have it pointed at lets say the selling and the machine getting the signal. There are a few cheap ones at amazon or ebay. RJ

Robert Fraser Probably you got a bad remote, sometimes cheap devices dont pass on all quality tests. And maybe, just maybe you got a clone. To solve your issue just get a wireless remote and you will be fine. RJ

I think that I will buy the MX III because all I really want to do with the TV Box is watching movies on Kodi using Genesis and I want to try something really inexpensive. BTW - do you have any info about fake MX IIIs? They even exist? I'm curious because I want to get one from gearbest.com cause their price on the cheapest version of the MX III is pretty smoking.

great video. Any idea why I'm now getting playback failed error messages. It worked awesome till I unhooked the box and took it to my daughters house and hooked it back up now nothing works on any file I get that message. Wifi is strong. I do get the repo's to laod and the Show or movie to load then the error message.

Hi Roberto, great review, I've just ordered one of these mainly for XBMC/Kodi so good to know that it comes preconfigured out of the box. I am concerned about the poor WiFi performance and considering this unit will be outputting to my 55" TV I'm guessing hardwiring via ethernet is the way to go, which will mean relocating my router closer to the TV. Would you advocate this or is it worth trying over WiFi? The distance from box to router would be around 10 feet. Thanks, Mark

derek Schmidt Hi Derek, almost all of them when pressing the power button on the remote will make the device sleep. Some have a built in capability of choosing to turn off. And there is one that ive tested that actually turns it off by pressing the remote button. Just let me know if theres any specific box that you would need to know. Thanks for the feedback!! RJ

+Richard Spidel Yep it will be enough for your needs but i would strongly suggest the 2GB version as 1GB these days will be consumed very fast and you may have some problems in video playback and others as i had with this version that i tested. Hope it helps. RJ

+Vitor Amante Oi Vitor, na altura dos testes da MX III tinha uns adaptadores mais fracos, hoje tenho uns Devolo 1200 Wifi AC (a review está no canal) que me dão resultados muito similares á ligação directa ao router. Os Devolo que tenho são caros mas valem bem a pena, no entanto existem tambem os AV 500 da Devolo que estão muito bons e mais baratos, não se atinge as mesmas velocidades mas para reprodução de multimedia são mais que suficientes, nas próximas semanas vou partilhar uma review acerca desses tambem. Eu tenho MEO e neste momento consigo em qualquer box acima dos 80/20 MBS. Recomendo sempre os adaptadores sejam eles quais forem porque a experiência será muito melhor. Espero que ajude. Abraço. RJ

+David Ramos Hi David, both are true, there is 1 version with 1GB (this video) and there is a version of 2GB wich i suggest because 1GB is getting a bit short, Blue tooth it has but a long time after the review i have had some problems connecting some devices over bluetooth, some work great and some dont. I imagine that the bluetooth integration is not that well made so there could be a few hiccups. There is also a new version from Tronsmat with Lollipop which could be a nice option. I have not tested yet but it should be better. Hope it helps. RJ

+Tom rocha Hey Tom, it depends on what you need from the wifi, if its for 1080p MKV blueray content then i would not suggest any with the exception maybe from some machines with external antennas like the Minix U1 but even then. If its for web browsing or 720 content then search any box with external antennas for the best performance possible. Examples: Minix U1, X8 H Plus, Zidoo X9 and i cant recall any other at this moment. Hope it helps RJ

***** Thats what i thought, i did try one of these boxes last week trought AV cable and to be honest the experience was not good at all. I didnt get black and white, but i did get a very low quality (as expected in AV) Try connecting it to another tv to troubleshoot, but if it remains the same than theres not much you can do except off course send back the android box or get a new Tv with HDMI. Sorry about the news, but this will happen with any brand tv box. RJ

Roberto, fantastic job on your reviews. Very informative. I noticed you demo games in your reviews and would like to know if\how you solved the following 2 issues that I am experiencing on my MXIII. Some games like the Minions you showed require WIFI. My MXIII is using Ethernet. How did you get around this? I have an air-mouse (MX3 air mouse which is great) but I find the Minions game wants me to use the mouse to swipe the TV screen. Did you re-map this to use the control left ight, etc. buttons and if so, how did you do this?

Mrkstir Hi, when you download the game theres an option to enable other connections because the box thinks its a phone :) and does this just to prevent spending 3g bandwidth. What i usually do if i require wifi i just enable to download the update and then ethernet again :) regarding gameplay i usually use the Ipega 9028 gamepad its not easy but you can definitely use it in most games. Thanks for your review. May I know whether this device could send video signal via HDMI and RCA at the same time? Because I have 2 TVs, one in living room the other is in bedroom. I want to send the RCA signal to my bedroom TV so that both rooms could watch the same content. Currently I am using Raspberry Pi 2 to play Kodi but it only can use only one video output at one time, HDMI or RCA, not both. If I use the HDMI output, the RCA output is disable automatically, and vice versa. This is due to GPU restriction is Raspberry Pi 2. Thanks.

Gee Thong Tan Hi Gee, no it does not. You can only output 1 signal at a time. I would suggest getting a HDMI splitter to get 2 outputs ( off course the image will be the same) Hope it helps. RJ

So que agora como tu deves saber maior parte das aplicacoes ja nao sao compativeis com a Android 4 Kit-Kat. Great review. I'd just like to know if I should get the one that comes with 1GB of RAM or the one with 2GB of RAM. I'm only planning on using it for XBMC and also for playing streams on the web browser. Also, I noticed that you are only getting 3 Megabits down speed connection with the wireless connection compared to 50 Megabits with wired connection. What if we use a WIFI Range Extender, will it improve the speed or not? Thank you.

Roberto Siano Hi Roberto, Nice name :) 1GB will be plenty for the streaming, 2GB for gaming. Wifi speed can increase a bit but your better solution instead of a wifi extender would be a PLC as this one goo.gl/OyNKby you will get much faster speeds than in any wifi solution and you will have no wires on your home. As for the PLC that you mentioned about, would it work with this adsl2+ modem/router (also from TP-Link) www.tp-link.com/lk/products/details/?model=TD-8840T that I'm using or would I have to get a wireless router to make my connection wireless. Just so you know I'm using a DSL Connection with the phone line connected to the modem/router. For me, it would be more convenient not to have a long Ethernet cable running all around the house but I don't see how that can be done with my modem/router seeing that it does not have wireless capabilities. Roberto Siano You will be fine with your router, no need to buy anything else besides the plc adapter. Just connect one ethernet cable from your router to one of the adapter, and on the living room connect the adapter to another ethernet cable that will conect to the box and thats it :) Enjoy it and if possible once you have everything done just update me with some news. Roberto Jorge So I went on and bought the box alongside the powerline adapter. I've had it for two months now and I have to say that everything is working perfectly. The box has been playing everything I've thrown its way perfectly. I got a few things that I'm wondering though. First, I think it didn't come rooted since it won't let me update the 'librtmp' file. This hasn't become a big issue for me though since I found a temporary solution but if there is an easy and reliable way to root it without messing up the booting process like I read on some comments from other people than I would appreciate if u let me know about it. Second, what is the correct way of turning off the unit when I'm done watching. Is it by pressing the power button for 5 seconds until the blue light turns off or just by using the remote and if so should I choose 'suspend' or 'power off'? And finally, I'm thinking about purchasing a webcam for this box and I've had the Logitech C270 in mind. Do you think it should be compatible with it? Thank you once again for referring me to this excellent device and I'll make sure to check out your latest videos whenever I have time.

Roberto Siano Hi Roberto, glad you are enjoying :) 1- Check if you have Super Su enabled, if yes its rooted. 2- I always use suspend on all my machines and so far no probs at all, its way faster then power off and on all the time. 3- I think that any modern web cam should be detected by any android machine, i would suggest going to a local store where you can easily ask for a refund if it doesn't work. +Isaias Cano Chaparro Hey Isaias, These is no way of shutdown the MX III and many other machines, only stand by. Using physical or software buttons the result is always the same because the tech behind most of these boxes are limited in that way. The Minix Machines for example can be turned off but to turn on we have to use the physical power button on the machine not the remote. And as far as im aware only the new X6 Pro and newer boxes from Zidoo can shutdown completely and start with the remote control, all others will only do stand by Hope it helps RJ

Kumar B Hi Kumar, there are a lot of great machines ou there!! I havent tried all :) I have tried about 20 machines. The fastest one is a Minix Z64 that has the eMMC 5.0 Flash storage and you can find it on the channel. It does not have 4k native output though. Hope it helps. RJ

Thanks for excellent review. I just bought one and I installed some games for my kids but unfortunately none of these games want to work . they start okay,but the control doesn't work when I try to click start for example nothing happens. Ahmad Abdullah Hi Ahmad, it depends on the games, try to install the ones that you have seen on the video review and see if it works. I bought a 2 RAM but the (Chinese) supplier sent me the 1G RAM version and says "it is the same". I already wrote him back that a 2000cc car is not the same as the same car with a 1300cc engine :-) It it worth to spend a bit more money for the 2G RAM version or is the difference not worth the monay? Jean Rikkie Hi Jean, 1GB is definately the same as 2GB :) its just a 100% diference so not even close. I havent tested the 2GB version and probably will not. So my doughts here are. Is that small problems (Freezes on games) from a lack of memory witch my tested model only has 1GB or is a Firmware problem. From the answer that you got from the seller saying that 1GB=2GB im really afraid that is not only the ram as i initialy though. If you check my latest review of a device it has 2GB of ram and higher specs thatn the MX III and performs a lot worse. So my advise would be, test it for your own use, if you feel that everything works good for you keep it, if not return it and do not ask for the replacement with 2GB, just ask for the money, spend a little more and get something that will work for sure. Hello Roberto. I found your review extremely well set out. Could you please give me some advice. I am looking for a unit such as this for my system, to do a very similar job to what you are using it for, ie streaming video. My system is this: I have an iMac, a Synology NAS & a WD TV Live unit connected by a 1 GB Ethernet Network. The WD TV Live unit is connected by HDMI to a surround sound AV unit, and another HDMI cable goes from this to my 55" TV. My movies are stored on the NAS, similar to you, and I stream over my network. I'm finding that the WD TV unit is struggling feeding the TV; I get glitching. It is about 4 years old now. And I notice that WD no longer manufacture any box like this now, so I'm thinking that the technology on my unit is now out of date. I'm wondering if this unit which you are reviewing would be a good update for my system. What do you think? I hope that you will give me some good advice. Thank you in advance, Alan

+dirtytv Hey, so you have 3 x MX III machines :) hehe!! Now that 3rd device that you have could be defective, sometime happens in any brand. Other thing that you can try before returning it for a new one is to check the audio settings and see if pass-trough on HDMI is enabled. Im not sure which box but it happend to me on the past and once i enabled the HDMI pass-trough everything worked well. Hope it helps. RJ

Regarding Kodi at this moment we have it on the playstore so try to go there and press the update button, if that does not work then try to install from the playstore keeping your old installation, if successful start the new Kodi and all settings will be imported and you can delete the old one. If none of this works unfortunately you will have to unistall the old install the new from the google playstore and configure, the good news is that once you have the version installed from the store you will never need to update it manually again, every time that gets updated you will get a notification to update it online without losing anything again :) Hope it helps.
