Changing the auxiliary belts on your mx5 should be routine maintenance and should be replaced once a year.
Its a nice simple job to do and here is a step by step video on how to do it yourself.
If you neglect your belts it could lead to them snapping, causing you to loose power steering or even worse loosing your water pump and causing your engine to overheat.

This was one of the most helpful belt replacement videos I’ve seen for this car. Showed exactly which bolts to loosen first, and which bolts to tighten up after the belt was put on. Definitely will be using this video and your timing belt video when I do mine. Nice job!

This is such a perfect tutorial. Thank you so much. You weren’t lying about the bottom pivot bolt on the alternator though. Saved myself £80 on the auxiliary belt, the power steering belt arrives later this week and I’ll be referring back to this video for sure. +1 subscriber

Super helpful video! I was really scared of this job as it was the most complicated thing I was going to do on a car yet, but it turned out a lot easier than I thought and it only took me 1.5 hours. Worst was the bolt behind the alternator, really hard to loosen, but I was able to move the alternator using some force with a screwdriver anyway.

Right on time. I've been popping belts constantly for 3 years. Just replaced everything that turns and pulleys even waterpump and everything crank because of all of my mistakes made compound problems. Main thing is maybe not tightening the alternator belt tight enough.

For those wondering, the two belt codes are : 4pk885 (2:40) and 4pk850 (3:29) 4pk850 is the belt WITHOUT a/c. if you have a A/C and power steering, you need 4pk945

A friend of mine changed them for me. Now they make some terrible sound when I start the engine. After a few seconds it is oka again. Probably I have to adjust the belts again. Do I just have to adjust the one screw for each belt to make them kind of stiff, or do I have to loose more screws before? Thanks a lot for your help.

yeah you need to slacken slightly the other bolts so you can move the alternator and PAS pump, if not you will bend the adjustment bolt. yes sounds like they need adjusting

Hey man, just a quick question i have a 4PK855 for the power steering belt (I dont have a/c) rather than the 4PK850 you mentioned in the video. Couls the different hurt at all or am i okay to run the car as it is? Otherwise fantastic video, made the whole process smooth as butter!

Great Video👍🏻 Any suggestions on issue like this..... Changed the P/S belt with 4PK855 After change on idle it squeals constant, it stops under load, About 3k RPM Bad belt or unproper tension? If so is it too tight or too loose? I'm running out of ideas😢 Thanks for help🙏
