Never had any issues with my 2021 MD, the roof doesn't rub the head restraints, and the roof liner certainly doesn't sag. It appears your just unlucky with your particular car. The ND doesn't have a roof problem.

I tore up my top on a 2016 GT by putting the top down while sitting in the driver's seat. The front edge of the roof was scraping the back of the roll hoops (particularly on the driver side because I have my seat pushed all the way back which is pushing on the wall structure behind the seat) By the time I noticed, the damage was done. Supposedly Mazda came up with a fix, but I am note sure ti works. In my 30AE I have lowered the top while in the driver's seat and I think there is still a chance of clipping the back of the hoops. Note that the owner's manual says to lower the top from outside the car. The Club roof lacks the roof liner so maybe it is not an issue on the Club, but I am not taking any chances either way. (The 30AE has the GT roof.) The best fix I have seen is to use a Dremel to shave down the lower back of the roll hoop to give more clearance. You then paint the hoop.

@@jeffreyiancampbell842 I see your problem. My seat is also pushed right back as far as it will go, but ive slightly reclined the seat back forwards, not by much, but enough so that the leather doesn't rub against the head restraint when my full weight is against it.

3 years in and no issues. I think Mazda's build quality is pretty solid in general and if there's anything wrong, they are great at standing behind their products

My 2019 had this issue. Fixed under warranty by my local dealer.

Mine hasn't had this issue... i'm in the US, so don't know if it all ND's or regional. Hope it stays fixed for you.

So far so good since the fix

You have two layers on this roof, it's hard to get the perfect clip of both of them but you need to do it perfectly. When you done it perfectly it will never get out again

Thanks for the tip, dealership did mine though.

I ha the same issue with my 2016. I could get it back together ok. I figured out it came apart when I either put the top up or down while moving forward at a brisk rate. I stopped doing it 😊and the problem went away. That was many years ago.

Correct, it's a fault Mazda recognised and released a modification bulletin. I had exactly the same issue which I fixed by following the Mazda instructions.

What did you do, seeing as they told it would need fixing at the dealership?
@michaelburns1212 Жыл бұрын
@@RobertKay Hi Robert, my local Mazda dealer ordered the spacers referenced in the service bulletin (they had no idea of the fault even when I took the Mazda bulletin in and showed them!) which l glued in between the inner hood to the rear window seal. It took me a long time to understand exactly what the arrangement was and it's not easy to do because of access, but l did it and it's not come undone since. If l had to do it again it's around a 30 minute fix. It was really annoying when it came loose every time you put the hood down. A Google search should find the Mazda bulletin download.

@@michaelburns1212 Thanks for the valuable information. Found the following Mazda bulletin www.miata.net/garage/tsb/Convertible%20Top-Inner%20Cloth%20coming%20off%20causing%20Poor%20Appearance%20and%20Obstructing%20view%20of%20Back%20Window.pdf but honestly if the car is under warranty it would be much easier to get the dealership do it.

@@RobertKay yep, that's the bulletin. My MX-5 was out of warranty hence the fix myself.

What year is your car? Do you know how they fix it?
@RobertKay Жыл бұрын
It is a 2022 model, seems to have been a design fault, so the standard clips were not good enough to fix the problem. That is why the service guys decided to add some glue. Will see how permanent this fixes it.
@1speedbrian Жыл бұрын
Mazda makes a little plastic clip that goes on each end that solves the issue. Also the way the fabric feeds into the channel is not intuitive, it goes together n a way that you wouldn't think is correct. My Mazda dealer tried to fix mine but never did it right. i got the service bulletin and the clips fixed it myself and its been perfect over a year.

I had this problem when I put the top down while I was going to fast. Haven’t had an issue since around early 2017.

Well after Mazda glued it it's been fine.

Why were you going to fast ? Are you on a diet ? Or did you mean going too fast , which is impossible in a MX5 , flat out is just right speed .

@@RobertKay There’s some drain pipes hidden underneath the rear window. The leaves and all types of debris can easily get stuck in there. Once it gets stuck, the bigger raindrops could flood the interior. And it is super difficult to clean.
