If you want to go 10+ kmh up, just hold the cruise control + button until you reach desired speed, no need to press it multiple times. Pressing it once or two-three times is for minor corrections. After a couple of petty negative points at the start (blaming the steering wheel size for scratching it, expecting the cruise control to make big changes in speed) I was ready to dismiss this review. I'm glad I watched it through though, as it is probably the best review I have seen in a long time. Lots of important and interesting things covered that other reviewers don't mention. You are clearly well qualified to discuss the driving dynamics after using it on road and track. All wrapped up in a video which is thorough but not repetitive or boring. Thank you!

I owned an white modified WRX, and you are right. It looked clean most of the time. It seems white dirt doesn't show Dirt. Now I own a black MX-5 NC2 with light weight wheels and light suspension, and dirt shows nearly immediately after a wash. I know my WRX was way faster, but I just adore my MX-5. It is the way it behaves and turns. It always feels willing to do it, and then there is the open top feel of the thing. It feels so telepathic, it is like you are wearing a suit made out of car.

I'm on my 4th MX-5 and the 68-plate RF GT Sport I've got now is the best of the lot. Relaxing on the motorway, responsive on country roads and always absolutely great fun. - CONS Not great on the motorway with the hard roof down; feels like there's hurricane in the cabin. Soft-tops don't have this problem though. Boot could be bigger. Easy to press the volume or entertainment dial with your arm by mistake. - PROS Everything else - even the lack of glovebox isn't a problem. These cars look amazing, drive wonderfully and the fuel economy is surprisingly good. Best money I've ever spent. Mazda just keep getting these cars absolutely spot-on in terms of driving experience. Great video Richard - I like your presenting style 👍

I've owned a '90 Gen 1 NA MX5 for over a year now. I bought it specifically because they're dead simple to work on. I wanted a learning tool for doing basic engine work that was also a fun car. I figured I'd have it for a year or two, sell it off and never owning a sports car again. After a year of driving that car, I'm still considering selling it (and my Audi A3), but to buy a newer Miata to daily drive. It hooked me the second I got a chance to take it on the back roads. I don't even care about the impracticality and how it handles in snow, I'll figure that out. I just want one in my life.

Love it! Interesting observation at the end. I've owned many white cars and found that they are the EASIEST to keep clean. You get a light layer of dust on a white car and unless you're looking at up close you never even notice that's it's dirty until you clean it. Put a light layer of dust a dark colored car and it instantly looks filthy.

Great video and a nice review and update. I really did not like the sound system in my MX-5; replacement of main speakers and twitters made a nice difference. Also, a custom, smaller steering wheel solves some problems that you mentioned. 🙂 I find the seats very comfortable (8+ hour journey is not a problem), and I am a big and heavy guy. I think the steering is the most exciting feature of my Mazda. And I, too, think that it was the best purchase I ever made. I have a C43 AMG, but I much prefer to drive my MX-5, and unless I really have to, I don't drive the Mercedes anymore. No, it doesn't snow much here so it's not worth it. Very slippery! 😅 Bridgestone S001 aren't the best when cold and wet. Tests show that winter tyres are only actually advantageous in snow. In freezing dry temperatures summer tyres still perform better. Get snow for like a few days a year normally.
@k1ll3rvc
@k1ll3rvc 2 жыл бұрын
@@RichardFanders most tyre manufacturers recommend not using a summer tyre below about 7C as the compound gets hard, @Tyre Reviews recommends an all-seasons for winter in the UK given the low snow we see, much better low temp grip and far more capability in snow than a summer tyre on the odd occasion we do get some. They also did a comparison at various temperatures to show the differences that happen with temperature: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHzXn5awoJ2Ars0

Here is the thing with the cruise control: it won't let you adjust past a certain speed delta. If you are going 50kph and want to adjust in either direction, it will only let you adjust 7kph up or down. So for example to 57kph. As soon as you are going 51kph it will allow you to set it to 58kph and so on. In mph it's probably something like 4mph delta. If you hold the button it will just increase in speed and set the cruise control to the current speed, until you let go of the button. There is no way to just increase the set speed by an increment of two or five or ten.

Thanks again Richard for your very informative and comprehensive video's. As a result I bought exactly the same car (100th Edition) ! My current roadster is a Mercedes SL350 from 2005, a very luxurious "tourer" with lovely sounding V6 but the costs of ownership drives me crazy and I am sure the MX-5 will give me the same fun. Cheers !

Brilliant video, I listened to every word. And respect to you for doing track days; I know so many people who have track performance cars, but treat the public road as the track - they basically just want to go 0-60 quicker than anyone else and that's it, which is a pretty expensive and very short ego trip

I've owned my NA 1993 Miata since I bought it new. Driven halfway across the US a couple times in it, just under 200k miles on it now. Original clutch, no major engine issues, still love to drive it. I did have to replace the top once, most expensive thing I have had to do to the car. It's getting a bit rusty on the bodywork (I live in an area that salts the roads in the winter and it's my daily driver).

My 160hp ND will be five years old in March '22. I bought it new and it now has nearly 100,000km on it. It still looks and feels like new. Other than for regular maintenance, it's been in the shop four times: Twice to replace a cracked windshield (unlucky hits by stones or screws on the road), once for some minor paint-work (thanks to some anonymous a$$hole in a parking lot). The only thing that was the car's "fault" was the front right wheel-sensor going bad. Happened under warranty, but the bill wouldn't have been that bad (~€300 all in). Overall, this thing is pretty darn reliable. What I will recommend is that if you're looking to get an ND, do try and get the Recaro seats. I made it a point when I was shopping for the car and I test-drove both seats before buying. They're not *that* different from the regular seats (pretty sure they share components under the skin), but they are different enough to warrant the extra cost. They do hug you a lot tighter (without being uncomfortable) and they vastly improve the interior's look, IMO. And they do offer a bit of lower back support. To me, both the seat and the backrest feel firmer on the Recaros than they do on the regular seats. I made some pretty long trips in those things, including a few ~600km drives on the Autobahn, and I never felt beat or tired when I got out of the car. Plus, in my country, they were included in the Sports-Pack which you had to order to get the Bilstein suspension - and I really wanted those yellow shocks... :D Re the "phone problem": Not sure if yours will fit, but my regular Galaxy S20 (in an Otterbox) fits perfectly into the cupholders. I always have the passenger-side cupholder inserted into its location up-front (not near the glove-box) and that's where my phone lives. The open construction of the cupholder even allows relatively easy access for the charging cable.

I’ve had a GR Yaris on order for over a year and a half, expected delivery in September but now they’re saying they have no idea when it could be. I’ve been struggling to find another car that really excites me for the same price but I think this will be the car I get if the Yaris doesn’t pan out. Thanks for the review, it ticks every box I’m looking for from a car - engaging, not too powerful but still very fun and able to ride out the gears. Can’t believe you’re getting 50mpg from it cruising!
