Hi guys. Just wanted to clarify that this is a concept and is meant to inspire, not to be copied outright. There are no 2 exact projects, a lot depends on the property, the owner, the use case, etc. As I stated in the video, there are a lot of things we did not consider yet but for the curious, here are some answers to your FAQs: 1. Mango tree breaking the concrete flooring can be mitigated by raising the floor and leaving a hollow area where the roots may hit - which can also be done here 2. Furniture gets wet? Use outdoor furnitures that are made for heat and rain. 3. Floor gets wet? Floor drains and proper slopes for drainage. Imagine the terrace areas or balconies of typical homes. 4. Security? When conceptualizing this house, we imagined it in a farm land in the province. Valuables may be placed inside the bedroom or locked in the cabinets. There are a lot more things that can be done but again, these are concepts. Thanks for watching 👌🏼

I like the concept of this house. I even sent the link to my spouse. It just does not fit the 1.5M budget mentioned considering I would have to add glass walls, glass windows and glass doors and others to retain the concept. Adding all those would probably cost more than 500k.

it's also hard to maintain if you do not have any help. anyone who has any kind of large fruit bearing tree really close to their home knows what a pain it is to keep the area clean. not to mention you have to deal with the insects, birds, bats, etc. that it will attract. also keep in mind, the tree sap and certain fruits will stain surfaces or sometimes eat through paint over time.

My three main reactions to the design: (1) It is so beautiful. (2) If this is for the Philippines, a lot needs to be adjusted to make it work in the Philippine climate. (a) You will have issues with insects. So that needs to be addressed. (b) You have rain for many months of the year, so the open area on the roof deck may not be usable during that time. All the second floor furniture needs to be selected with the idea of being able to withstand getting soaking wet. (c) If there are strong typhoons or earthquakes, you will need to check that the tree does not pose a safety risk. (3) I don't understand how to access the outside spiral staircase. If the dining area is on the second floor, how do you access the roof deck from the kitchen? Do you go through the bedroom and the bathroom? Or do you go out to the garden and walk the perimeter of the house? If you add a roof to the second floor later on to make it usable during rainy season, you will also have to cover the stairs so that the stairs stay dry. Even with all my questions though, very nice design. I like the look of the concrete slab roof. No more beams, wow!
@TC-yx1qt2 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking of building something similar to this but on the beach in the Philippines.. Would something like this work on the beach? As far as dealing with insects, what could be done? Mosquito netted bed? What else? Maybe he could cover half the roof? Or just add a dining area on the first floor and problem solved?
@SSEBBlue2 жыл бұрын
@@TC-yx1qt also to add one other thing, don’t plant trees within your house :o roots will become a major major problem once the tree grows more. Either the tree will “suffocate” and die or it’s going to cause cracks and faults in the floor ~ best to just keep things such as trees outside of the building 🤗 happy home and happy tree

Safety concerns aside, this is a perfect retirement home concept. The concrete roof is perfect for solar panel maintenance. The minimalist design will also force us to de-clutter. Just make sure to give ample space for the bathroom needs - enough space to maneuver with help and /or with wheelchair. Just put into consideration which direction your house faces in terms of harshness of sunlight and inconvenience during typhoon season. Every house design depends on our needs and lifestyle. I personally see myself living in a place like this as I garden almost everyday and don't need for much else other than my computer. However, my husband loves to cook and that kitchen just wont cut it considering the amount of family members we have visiting all the time.

@DD-vv5ws3 жыл бұрын
Hindi ako architect at hindi rin ako engineer, just an accountant, but I would always prioritize function over form. Others who would watch this would be wowed by the archl design but this house has many safety and security issues. Maganda to have a tree passing thru a roofing but a tree attracts lightning, ants, etc.,its branches can break during a storm. Outdoor furniture also needs protection from sun and rain. Ang mahal kaya ng sunbrella fabric and mahal din ang wood that can withstand sun and rain. Parang mali to stick to a budget of 1.5M pero yung furniture will definitely be costly. The first floor should have walling, to retain the design, glass wall would be nice but will cost a lot, it will also bring up electricity cost, during day time. Also, allowed ba ng National Building Code to leave the roof deck without a railing, or railing that has wide gaps, or with just the plants as barrier? Parang hindi. Also, it would also be important to have a powder room in the living area. We dont want visitors passing thru the bedroom just to use the toilet.

Hiring professionals is the best way to go. During our planning stage, we asked the help of a relative for the design and not so skilled engineer thinking it will save us money in professional fees. Turned out to be more expensive kasi we revised multiple times on the designs coz it didn’t come out compliant with building requirements. Everytime we revised, we paid. I cried all the time due to frustration and sayang ang money. When we finally got a very experienced (awarded pa) and licensed architect we started from scratch but the design was very good and we didn’t have any revisions when we applied for building permit. Walang sakit sa ulo. Learn from our actual experience, guys.

I am also concerned on how the mango tree will affect the house in case of typhoon. Other than issues on water leakage, baka maputol ang tree, mabagsakan ang house. This is a big hazard. But then, he said that they are still in the planning stage.. So more opportunities pa to improve the design 😊

@@RGCN_0011 we have a big mango tree in front of our house in an urban village. The ants first started to make homes out of the leaves of the tree just like in one of the documentaries I've watched from National Geographic or Discovery Channel, I can't remember which in particular. Then between May to July, just before big typhoons come, a lot of gamu-gamo would be swarm around at sunset. Then voila, we'd see termites moving up or down the trunk of the mango tree.

This is a nice concept home for locations with less rainfall and wind.

Hi , i see the cantelever after the planters, slope to drain, straight to finish, we have a 5 coat water based elastomeric exposed type waterproofing system that terminates on the thickness of the slab. the planters are applied with a water based ROOTS resitant PU the entire floor area if you like will also be coated with foot traffic elastomeric system. no more concrete topping on your slab that will add weight on your beam less slab.

I was expecting a more kind of like liveable space for ordinary people. I mean if you are on a budget, you cannot expect one to have a big lot. I would also consider a more secured house than this. For me it feels like a 'tambayan' for the rich peeps that is worth 1.5M.

The design is not practical. Its a house made for a billionaire who doesnt mind wasting money just for giggles. I dont see this working out in a place like the Philippines.
@francisalvarez22883 жыл бұрын
It can work out, but you need to build it in a very exclusive subdivision made for millionaires/billionaires where the lot area would cost you around 15 Million to 20 Million including the landscape 🤣. You are right, it's not practical. 😁

I was waiting for this comment 😂 I wont pretend to know anything about architecture and engineering but it just didn't seem right. It seemed like it was lacking a couple of important parts, but that's just how I felt while watching
@johntonguecruz24043 жыл бұрын
@@lesterreyes8548 i could think of a hundred reasons why its not practical. I'll start now. This is in no particular order. In a tropical country much like the Philippines, bugs be it insects during the day or the night will come terrorize you. Imagine switching on your bedroom lights and 9999999999 bugs comes swarming around your lights? Dengue-carrying mosquitoes? Your neighbours no matter how far they are, would probably accidentally witness the owners doing the deed during the day or in the dead of night. You'll be giving the akyat bahays a favour with this terrible design. Imagine the headlines saying : Family of 3 killed in apparent home invasion; investigators says there was no force entry **shrugs**

I also see it that way sir John, not practical in a tropical country at not very fortified na kayang nakawan ng madali. But Sir Slater said that they might add more as it is not complete and up for an upgrade. We hope na they add some curtain walls or actual walls and replace those exposed perforated wood walls at least if they try to materialize the house in the future. On the bright side, I try to look at its aesthetics na lang to see its beauty.

Concern: that area on the 2nd floor part of the mango tree where you can lounge, if therell be heavy rain, wouldnt it be a cause for water problems? Great video tho 😊

i believe slater mentioned that there well be waterproofing also i guess they will consider putting a linear drains. There are still a lot of factors that might change on the actual as he clearly said that this is on a concept stage

Same concern. I think they'll be adding an open drain sa ground floor for the runoff water. Pero everything is still on its early stages of conceptualization. Kudos to Slater and LLG Architects!!!
