It is beyond me that you don’t have a million subscribers. I follow you since 2008/2009 and your content has always been superb. I remember your lesson ‘nocturnal vision’ and that melody is still in my head after all these years.

This is truly one of the best advice I've come across on KZbin, just what I needed to advance my alternate picking accuracy and speed, thanks. Pls can you recommend an exercise pattern to monitor growth with this technique?

OK so I was a bit sceptical at first. But I gave this a couple days practice and did improve my precision and speed. I'm addicted to this kind of movement, without having to think about pico slanting and what not

Hey @KristoferDahl This is great! Could you do a video explaining 2 note per string pentatonics and how you approach picking those at hight speeds with alternate picking? There's a lot out there but I'd love to hear your take on this subject

Great tutorial on finger movements! I would also like to know, for this kind of push-pull movement, is it recommended to mainly use the thumb or the index finger to drive the pick?

So the purpose of using the thumb is to achieve a very fine economic movement? It's interesting because i had the same idea but by using the muscles that rotate the forearm, so my thumb is actually completely still. Seems to me like both movements are using the same type of muscles that are able to kind of "twitch" rapidly without feeling strained.
@KristoferDahl4 ай бұрын
Yes, and help you with string traverse. I don’t really see how you would accomplish the same with your wrist though!
@menamgamg4 ай бұрын
@@KristoferDahl I mean like rotating the forearm from palm-down to palm-up. EVH used that movement in a very extreme way for his tremolo picking, which is what gave me the idea to be mindful of utilizing those muscles for my picking technique - since it effortlessly allows for these very tiny and rapid back and forth movements like how you're describing with the thumb thing.
@KristoferDahl4 ай бұрын
Ah gotcha, that’s actually what i use for fast pentatonics!

@@KristoferDahl Fascinating how you can do it in two different ways! :D Im pretty sure my thumb is not moving at all but im definitely gonna have to look into that more!
