Hey, Dan! 😊 Your room has changed since I watched your review on Relic. You and I have some similar tastes in books/authors. I loved Ender’s Game. I read it as an adult. It’s the only book I’ve read by Orson Scott Card. I’m a fan of Riodan’s books. The Percy Jackson series is great. I have only read Eragon (twice) and really need to finish the series. I haven’t read anything by Dan Simmons, yet. A Winter Haunting is on my 24 Books for 2024 List, and I want to read The Terror. I have only read Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. I remember liking it. It was awesome hearing about your favorite authors. 🎉 I have MANY favorites, but a few of my favorites include Stephen King, Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, Mary Higgins Clark, and Preston & Child. I read a variety of genres and adore children’s literature.

Hey Kat! Yeah I've definitely accumulated more stuff lol. I haven't read anything from any of your favorites, aside from Preston & Child of course, but I think I have a least one of their books on my tbr!

Great ranking video! I love Dan Simmons' horror novels, I still need to try Hyperion. I still need to read some Brandon Sanderson. I need to re-read Dune!

I stopped reading the Eragon books partway through Brisingr but lately have been wanting to try to reread and finish the series. I was in middle school at the time and got bored so maybe now that I'm older I'll be able to enjoy it better? I'll always remember the battle against the army that couldn't feel pain, though. And how I had to constantly referenced the dictionary/appendices/map haha

I reread the entire Inheritance Cycle a couple of years ago and thought that the last two held up better than the first two (although Eldest still may be my favorite. Its a toss up between Eldest and Brisinger). So I think it would definitely be worth revisiting.

Really enjoyed this video, Dan! Thanks. I’ve only read books from your top 3 authors. So I’ve got some catching up to do.

Banger video Dan! I've never considered trying to rank authors beyond just my faveorite. I own Babel and The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang and I'm really excited to read them both! I really need to read Enders Game as well, I finally picked up some nice second hand copies of the first two books. Boy I would of loved to read it in school! I almost read it many years back, but then I thought the movie was super poopoo. I completely missed Percy Jackson somehow while reading as a teenager, I was always in the library reading and I never even heard of this series until I was an adult. I was so unfair on Eragon, I finished all three lord of the rings books back to back, and the second I put down return of the king, I picked up Eragon, read about 200 pages and gave up. It was very unfair to read it right after Tolkien I think haha. I really need to get to Hyperion, I swear I will read it this year! I also have Terror and Carrion Comfort to read as well. Oh my god, red rising, another series I havnt read yet, I am doing poorly on your list haha. I also hadn't heard of Taltos! Brando Sando! Thank god I read Mistborn recently. Going to jump into Elantris soon. I love Herbert. No surprises at #1, my final box set showed up today. Alright I read a couple of the authors, and collected a lot of things for my TBR. I think my fave is still Iain M. Banks.

Thanks Benjamin! It was kinda hard for me to do because, like I mention in the video, for a few of the authors I've only read one of their books. But I just gotta read more and strengthen the list. I have yet to pick up Poppy War but I'm excited to get to it! I have a couple books past Ender's game I just gotta get around to read them. I'm almost afraid to because Ender's Game was SO good, I don't want anything to lessen them. I reread Percy Jackson a couple of years ago and they held up decently well. Now was that experience shadowed with nostalgia? Most likely Yeah that might have been a little unfair to 15 year old Paolini lol I think you will LOVE Hyperion. The first time I read it, it blew my mind. It's one of my favorite reads so far this year. Haha no worries it just makes your TBR grow and grow lol Elantris was "okay" Mistborn is definitely better IMO, but still worth a read. I have yet to read any Iain M. Banks. If there was 1 you would have me read, what would it be?

@@DiggerdanReads Player of Games is the go to answer for a good Iain M. Banks I think, I also think Look to Windward is a good intro.

For me, it's easier to create a list of books I love than a list of authors I love. There are many authors that I enjoy their books but I despised them, although I prefer to separate the creator from the work (Stephen King is in this category). There is also the situation that there are authors that I have read one or another of their books, but they wrote so many books to the point that I don't feel it's fair for me to put them in a top 10 without having read at least half of what they wrote. Dan Simmons, Arthur C. Clark, Frank Herbert and Brandon Sanderson fall into the latter category. I've read two or five of their books, and I liked them, but I need to read more. When I think of a top ten these are the names that immediately come to mind: J.R.R Tolkien, Bernard Cornwell, Clive Barker, Philip K Dick, H.P Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Jack London, Stephen King, Cormac McCarthy and Haruki Murakami.

I completely agree! That's part of the reason I wanted to make this video to really challenge myself and see whos work I really enjoy. That is fair, especially if the author is controversial in someway outside of their books. That is also a fair point, like I said in the video there are a couple of authors I have listed that I've only read one of their books. That's why I like to see this list as a "living" list. Always changing and evolving as I read and experience more. That is an extremely solid list! Thanks for sharing.
