This is a great vid man. Wish you would do more on them. Sunday Morning is absolutely beautiful. Underrated at times. I hate how everyone thinks all VU songs relate to drugs in some way. Some songs mean exactly what they seem to mean. Lou Reed wrote Heroin, that was a drug song. If hes writing about drugs he wont hide it.

I think everyone has a great story how they discovered The VU. For me, I was at a garage sale in Norman, Oklahoma. Some acid fried students all living in an animal house were selling pretty much everything for more weed I’d imagine. In a shoe box was a bunch of cassettes for a quarter each. One of them was The Velvet Underground & Nico. I was an art student at OU(mid 90s) and mostly into britpop and shoegaze at the time. But, that banana called to me so I got it and some Smiths cassettes for the sum total of a dollar. I remember biking to the art school and into my painting studio to work on some new paintings. It was the weekend and I loved painting over partying…so there I am with a paint spattered jambox and a 6’ x 6’ stretched canvas ready to be painted upon. I reached into my backpack and pulled out The VU and pushed play. The second I heard “Sunday Morning” I was hooked. I painted all night and played that cassette over and over. Three groups/artists you can't get first time around are Velvet Underground, Grateful Dead and Captain Beefheart. Once you can come to appreciate them you will love music oh so much more. I'd actually include the Beach Boys here. Basically it comes down to loving innovation and execution.
