Tell your son thank you for the recommendations!! My son is 9yo and I’ve tried a bunch of your son’s picks from last years video!! Question for you- did you make a video on how you structure the books you assign for him? My son reads a lot, but it’s either non-fiction or fiction on audio… which I know “all counts”, but I’m trying to get him reading more physical books too! We’re an unschooly family as well, so I’m trying to encourage it without assigning him books.

So for this school year I made two lists of books: "Priority Reads" that I really, really want him to read this school year and then "Free Reads" which are books that I think he'll enjoy but he's such a re-reader he doesn't pick up new books very often. On our "school days" I am going to go back to what I did last school year and have him read for 30 minutes on those days. He loves audio as well so I had the (potentially brilliant) idea this week that he can listen to the book during those thirty minutes ONLY IF he is following along with the physical book. Or he could just read the book during that time but no listening only. I'm hoping the combo of listening and following along will help his reading speed in the long run but it's a new idea, time will tell if it's a good one or not.

I love that he seems to enjoy sharing. I don't know if you include books with faith in it but I have found Frank Peretti has a good series, The Cooper kids adventures. The Wingfeather Saga is funny and adventurous too!

Quest- you soon reads all these? I have a soon to be 4th grader and can’t imagine him reading these… he loves me reading aloud and is reading frequently on his own but small books - like dr suess… how do you engage them to reading larger texts without being oberwhelmed?
