The drawers leak, which is a problem if you have to deal with intermittent rain or weather. I also still really like the clear top storage units because the screws don't get mixed up when they fall over. You also don't have to carry them with two hands and flat.

They need to make drawers with a gasket around them like tough system, but ts doesn't lock. Also they need something like the tstak Dolly so you can put whatever box you want on the bottom and still do stairs/rough terrain. I was able to make my tstak drawers waterproof by installing my own gaskets around them, but if that leaks it's going to suck for me. And I can't lock them so I'm hesitant to leave them outside anyways

Less is more! I almost got sucked into all this Milwaukee organizing! My great grandfather built houses with one toolbox that he could cary. I now run a one man construction company out of a Ford Ranger and I do it all. The point is to learn how to use what you have and be prepared for the next day! It’s ez to get in the habit of towing the shop around but planning is key to being a profitable minimal contractor!

Look for a horse stall mat for the bed of your truck. The great thing about those is that nothing slides around on them. The bad thing about them is when you are standing there with your tailgate down, & your toolbox is at the far end of your truck bed nothing slides towards you easily. But you can cut them to fit your setup & work flow. I hope this helps.

I have the old style and plan to add drawers. I see value in both styles. I like the idea of pulling a single case and taking it to tight places where I can't take drawers. A covered case in standard, low profile or half size provides many options when you need the content of a whole drawer in the attic.

Thanks for the info! Very useful. With reference to leaving the boxes unsecured in the backseat, think about having to make a slam stop. Even if they're only one box tall, you've got a potential heavy projectile coming for your back in the best case, and it there's a bump, it could bounce up and hit the back of your head. I wouldn't want to count on the headrest being enough to protect me. Your head could be moving backwards in a collision while the box is moving forward with a lot of energy. Too many ways that can go wrong. I would want them all well secured.

Ego to the side. " You really should really consider, getting a VAN ". Best decision that transition that I ever made. It's like a mini workshop on wheels, with drawls everywhere & you can stand up in it. Also you can transport MDF & Ladders & a Wheel Trolley hassle free. Plus it's discreet, no-one can see inside the van, so less likely to break in plus nothing is outside in the rain.

Buy a two seater transit or a sprinter Long Body. You can still haul lumber with you door open and that hitch extender you use with the truck. Ladders can still go on top. You are inadvertently converting your truck into a van. Cut your losses and skip to the van. It's painful to watching you slowly coming to this conclusion.

I'm new to packout. I have the wheeling box, 2 large boxes, a small box and a crate. Unless I have to get something in the bottom box I haven't had any issues yet. Just unlock the lid on the box I need and lift the lid with the stack attached to it. I don't have anything for fasteners yet, I reckon drawers for fastereners would be ideal.

First time I saw packout I laughed (no drawers?). Never bought a single one because of that terrible design flaw. No way on this green earth was I going to unstuck and restack for a tool. I most likely won't buy these new drawer boxes either since they stand to tall stacked. You can't lay them flat either because all your crap shifts inside, so you're stuck unstacking them anyway just to fit in the truck. They are a much needed improvement though and would be perfect inside a converted work trailer.

Two complaints i had of the milw was the compartment size and cost. I only require a short stack of boxes for my work so drawers not necessary, but may be an upgrade in the future. Would like to see one of these with a better solution to stairs. Curious how long before the wheels fall of my rigid.

I realize carpenters can't have metal toolboxes due to weight but at least with drawers you can access everything so much easier. good job of recognizing that, I'm sure you'll be able to sell all those pack out easily. If that is a 6 or 6.5 foot bed you can get a 5.5 foot slider for the truck bed. You can place the new boxes on the slider and you will still have room at the front for your spray etc. The large slider drawer will actually help to hold the gear in front of it (closer to the cab) from sliding around. If those Milwaukee boxes are all a fixed height you could even put a sheet of ply in at the correct height across the bed to allow you to use the bed slider and still have a second layer on top for other tools and materials.

There is a 4-drawer Packout available, too. Didn't see it at HD but found them online for sale.

I waited for the drawers, since I have drawers for Festool Systainer. For Festool, the box will slide out. But they are pretty small. And I needed my Sawzall into the box. So I waited. I have two drawers at the bottom. Three drawers in the middle and XL box at the top. And I have a radio in between and have the socket wrench at the top of XL box. Love them

I love the dewalt stuff in the Milwaukee tool boxes. L Also the tough system 2.0 is really good especially if you need to store larger stuff in the box. I do like the drawers though it looks very convenient. Do they latch together?

you are 100% right, the packout stack is not as hot as milwaukee thinks it is, who wants to unstack all the time to get into bottum box.I thought about drawer tool boxes 5 years age, good thing i only bought 3 packout boxes, and waited for drawer boxes.

You can still use the lid ones for the top of your tool box stack. I use the Tstak; drawers on the bottom, lids on the top with the dolly cart. Works great. Or the Toughbox racks/hand truck which allows you to slide a box out.

Great video. Just about to pull the trigger on some pack out stuff and your new strategy was one that crossed my mind. I’m pretty sure I’m going to go that way after seeing this video, thanks. Regarding your back seat…I wonder how it’d work if you screwed a pack out tray to your floor in your back seat then locked in your boxes to that. You could even do several trays and put your most used tools boxes at the doors then you could just open the truck door and your tools are right there. I may try that on my truck when I get my drawers.

You should consider a box van. When I was still building houses we had one and it was the cat's meow with shelving (I made my own) on each side of the box. Much more convenient, imo

I can agree that the drawers are an absolute necessity, buy for a lot of us, we can't get all of our tools in them. Where would you put your circ saw or recip saw?

I have a ram 1500 lone star and I really wanna do the same with my back seat. I love the idea of all the storage space under the back seats but it's a pain to get to them when I have a bunch of tool bags piled up back there. I do keep all my sandpaper and framing squares stored between the seat and the little fold out platform that isn't too difficult to get to

I’ve got the 3 tool box on wheels from Home Depot kit and large, med, small organizers. And it’s great I split them up grab what tool box I need ....go to job ! However in the garage I’m going to start another system with tool box with wheels and Two ....2 drawers and a one 3 drawers on top ! Cause it is a pain if you need to get at stuff!

You could carpet that platform in the back seat and it would help a ton to dampen the noise of them bouncing around and also keep them from sliding around

That's why you get toughsystem and the toughsystem dolly. You can grab the bottom box or the middle without unstacking everything and they have had drawers forever.

The problem with the Packout drawer system is the drawers are plastic and the bottoms will sag & drag when loaded up with heavy gear. I'm not saying that they are bad, but they are not the perfect solution for everything. They have their place in the Packout line-up, just don't expect them to handle extra-heavy items and hold up in the long run.

I have pretty much all the old packout boxes, they are really good to store bulky tools. I pretty much have all the main carpentry Milwaukee cordless tools, and I think it'll be a pain in the ass to store them in the drawers. i fit 2 impact drivers, 2 grinders , 2 drills and one nail gun and planer + 2 batteries in the big briefcase. but for small stuff the drawers will be perfect.

You need a transit. 130” wheel base, 3.5 twin turbo, 3:73’s in the back with some hackney shelves inside. It’s a great combo!

You can get the plates that the pack out boxes snap into. If you attach them to your truck that might be nicer than bungies

Circular saws don't fit in drawers etc. So use the big boxes for big stuff. You might not need all of those lol but they gotta be useful nice setup.

Hey Google T Dula carts. They make custom hand trucks that mount to your hitch with a custom release mechanism. You could mount those boxes to the cart and never have to lift them again.
