I love that you mentioned you don't need anything special when you were talking about your forks. I think a trap that so many people fall into when starting minimalism is buying really expensive stuff and rationalizing it by saying it'll last longer. Expensive stuff still creates waste. Cheap things from the thrift store are definitely the way to go!
@youcanknowanything8489 Жыл бұрын
Things from the thrift store are fine as long as they are excellent quality. No one needs to downgrade their standards for quality and beauty.

thrifting has gotten expensive due to tiktok and such. many people are doing it so prices are raised. also i noticed that in goodwill the prices are sometimes equal to tjmaxx or Marshalls!! but those stores actually sell NEW stuff. amazing. so thrifting isn't worth it overall. the good deals, those thrift stores sell on eBay not retail so you will never come out ahead

If anybody feels bad watching this, please realize you don't have to live like this at all, and just getting rid of your clutter and all genuinely unused items is enough. Most homes hoard to some extent and are terrible at routinely going through their homes and getting rid of things they genuinely have abandoned for months or years. Just do that. You don't have to uncomfortably compress your closet to 20 or less garments, or build a house with pre-existing cabinets so that you don't have to buy separate ones. I hope this helps you feel less bad! Start with one small area, like a bookshelf, and congratulate yourself for your efforts.😁❤️

I've been looking into living a simple and sustainable life primarily for the selfish reason of being tired of working in a 9 to 5. I wonder if such a life is possible in city apartments. I've recently started watching youtube videos on aquaponics and growing microgreens in small spaces. I love the idea of being able to live in a small apartment with an efficient aquaponics system that could feed myself and maybe even a small family. Instead of wasting time, money and space on a sofa, TV, dining table, stove, laundry machine, etc., it makes much better sense to utilise the space for a mini garden, fish tank and maybe even a composting bin. Imagine a self-sustaining community within a large apartment complex... An impossible pipe dream but still.... maybe in the distant future.

I put in a small tree a few months ago and have used it to wash dishes and they came out great. Can't wait for the tree to get bigger so I is it for all my cleaning needs. Also I found a kid KZbin that fixes his inner tubes with a piece of paper and glue, no patch kit necessary. I fixed my front tire a year ago now that way and it's still going strong! Best to all of you:-) P.S. Came to me this morning that I had to add on about how wonderful it is that Robin is helping us re-scribe what it means to be a free human. Dear Robin and commenters: have a project I started that I would like to see replicated at other latitudes. It won't take much "stuff" and might put a real dent in firewood consumption around the world. I have been looking at a design 37:48 for a solar cooker. "Cooker" is Britishese for a little stove replacer that will collect sunlight and direct it at a pot to heat the contents. I saw a design online that an African man was showing the world on a KZbin podcast. He took a discarded auto or truck tire, insulated the empty inside of it with some crumpled newspaper and insulated the soil on which the tire was resting. Then he set up a kind of bowl inside, held up by the tire. He used aluminum foil so that the sun's rays were reflected onto a metal pot with a lid. There was also a sheet of glass on top to keep heat inside the tire. The pot was painted black. I seem to remember 37:48 that he used it to cook some rice. What impressed me was that the design worked 37:48 37:48 quite well considering that all the parts were very cheap . . or free. I wondered how well it would work further from the equator and if there was a way to make it throw more heat. Perhaps you or one of your readers could experiment with this design in different weather conditions and at different latitudes. Even if it can only produce enough heat to Pasteurize liquids or heat a stone to bring inside to comfort someone with cold hands or feet, that is something. Discarded tires tend to accumulate rain and breed mosquitos, so the more ways we can use them in a way that does NOT breed mosquitos the better off we mosquito victims will be also.😊
