I will feed the fish special pellets supplied by Lyndon Trout Hatchery, install a new pond aeration system by Koenders at naturespondcare.com, and answer some of your nasty (and kind, or helpful) comments from the past few months.

Building a New Fish Pond Series: • Building a NEW FISH PO...
Lyndon offers both fish stock for ponds of any sort as well as stocked pond fishing, fly fishing, and fishing of any sort for kids to adults. You can book corporate events, or a day with the kids. Lyndon will show you how to clean the fish and even rent you a rod and real. Just show up and fish! www.lyndonfishhatcheries.com.
The fastest way to dig a big pond is to use the help of a qualified excavator. This excavator normally digs out house foundations and the operator has years of experience digging giant holes in the ground and removing mountains of material.
In the previous episode we had Clarke from Lyndon Trout Ponds and Fish Hatchery measure water quality of our fish pond for oxygen and water temperature. This pond was also monitored year round to see if it holds enough water and has the depth the fish need to stay cold. Rainbow trout need good to excellent water quality and plenty of oxygen. Water flow is an asset to help fish spawn. We discovered that the water in our pond is filled continuously with the help of ground water and is very cold, even in the summer. Trout will die if water gets above 25 degrees Celsius. Shade also helps keep water cool and our pond is sheltered for a good part of the day with trees.
You will need to find out what kind of soil you are working with. Is it clay, clay-loam and sandy loam are best for holding water. You will want to avoid limestone, shale, sand and gravel-they leak. Except in our case since the gravel is actually part of the ground water, which is ideal. You can ask around to find out if your pond will leak or will hold water year round. You don't want your pond to dry up in the middle of the summer.
Aeration of the pond is something we will be exploring as we see how the season develops. We are hopeful that water remains cool so dissolved oxygen in the water remains high.
After we dig the pond, we will let is sit for a few weeks before putting our fish in the pond. Ideally you will let the pond sit for a full year, but we are not patient enough for this.

I appreciate the updates and stuff. I’ve been watching these videos for so many dang years and he’s just gotten away from the roots of his channel. DONT GET ME WRONG!, I LOVE the builds and updates and humor and all that between all the guys there around the camp and stuff. But what happened to survivalist videos? What happened to just going to the bush with a cooler and your family and having a camp for a night or two? A lot has been filtered out over the years. Whether it be bc you chased what a few comments asked for and got distracted or if maybe you kind of lost sight of what we all started with, WITH YOU so many years ago. I won’t stop watching. I’ll always make sure it plays through and like. Just hope you get back to your roots soon. I know it doesn’t sound like it but, much love, Mr Beardsman.

Glad to hear you’re thinking of adding a filter and plants to the waterfall. Great way to remove the excess nutrients from the water and reduce algae growth. You should consider adding a UV light into a section of the filter to help with the algae and get your water clearer and hopefully it will not be so green and you’ll get more visibility. Love the pond build so far, great content.

Piece of friendly Advice. Dissolved Oxygen levels are lowest at night. Also keep in mind bottom up aeration is the best as you mentioned, but keep in mind on hot day above 72F especially, then you are heating up your pond. I would really add pond Dye at least during the summer, blocks out UVs and helps keep the pond cooler. Also let’s the bacteria in the currently break down the sludge etc. And if you are hell bent on Koenders products get there pond care Beneficial Bacteria product.

Hey mate, love your vids! But can I give you some advice? Get an API master test kit and test your Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate levels. By the looks of it, your bio load may be too much to keep a healthy nitrogen cycle. So even though your scooping up all the poop, it's still releasing ammonia into the water. The nitrogen cycle is vital for a healthy functional pond. Ammonia (toxic to fish) turns into Nitrite (also toxic to fish) and then turns into Nitrate (good for fish) but if your producing too much Ammonia the cycle crashes and your fish will die. I know you don't want too many plants, but I think you need them for a stagnate pond without a filter. The plants act as a filter and absorb the nasties that harm your fish. The air pumps are fantastic but they aren't filtering anything, it's just providing Co2. I've kept fish all my life and I actually build ponds for a living.

Or maybe we could give it a cropped haircut and a frown and call it Karen? Honestly, I got nothing. Also after you name all of your fish can we get a deadpool going for the inevitable collapse of all of your efforts? KIDDING! That was a shout-out to some of the grifters in your comment section 🤣😂😅

Couple of items: the masses are asses. You guys are authentic (where else can I watch a smoker build and it unscriptedly be burned to the ground?) in a sea of slick channel hucksters. Comedy: it's a modern Canadian version of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom - I'm only waiting for you to tell Don to jump in the bush and wrastle the moose. Keep combining ideas, testing your skills, include the failures, along with success, and you'll continue to do well, IMHO.

So I'm into reef keeping.. marine but same concept as fresh water, so first off I see you're beginning to have nuisance algae colonizing I would apply a good beneficial bacteria to out compete and kill off that algae and secondly your fish dying could come from many factors but I would start with testing my water parameters maybe take a sample down the LFS and have it done there or mail it off to a professional lab.. (plenty online) with limited water volume like you have your PH could be way off and that would certainly kill your fish.. a very good channel to watch is : "BAMABASS" 5 acre pond, from down here in the south where he mostly keeps bass in his huge pond he puts out a wealth of info regarding pond management.. good luck bro (remember negativity makes you stronger man)

Don't understand negative comments! but I appreciate other people's ideas or that you disagree and come up with alternative methods. If you don't like it don't watch and skip the comments. Keep doing what you are doing, love it, but I don't agree with everything you do 😀 I would have done it much better 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Have you tested your water ? I know your fed up of hearing about plants but the plants aren’t just for oxygen they promote healthy bacteria fish need they also break down nitrogen and ammonia. I’ve been building ponds for 25 years. You got your fish from a very high oxygenated pond and the stones you’ve put I will generate 25% of their original intake.. the water they came from was also fast flowing .. Try barley straw bales in a mesh bag all year round … very cheap way to fight the algae .. this isn’t to say your doing something wrong it to help.. circulation will help massively… I love your videos. You have lost a lot of passion recently and Kevin seems to have taken your energy . Hope everything works out

Chris don't mind the negative comments. They're just jealous because you are more knowledgeable than them. They are the same people who can't fish and last 5 hours in the wilderness. They are just a keyboard warriors or a basement experts 😂 Whatever happens to the pond, i'll still support you and Kevin's channel.

Not an expert but have been raising fish for twenty plus years. My suggestions. Your pond should be cooler at this time of year, all your aeration is turning the water over too much. I don’t think you need as much as you’re providing. Try stocking younger fish that will acclimate to your pond’s conditions. Trout grow very fast, especially if you feed them. Be careful how much you feed them, no more than they will clean up after fifteen minutes or so . I would recommend water lilies, they provide shade to keep your water cooler and allow fish to hide from predators. If an osprey shows up now you’re going to be in trouble. Lillies don’t root in deeper water and are easily kept under control, I think the benefits outweigh the detriments. I would also skim off the algae regularly. Just my suggestions, not criticizing. Good luck with your project.

I would guess like with plumbing, its the couplings that hurt your flow. Looks plenty adequate though especially considering its just your overnight backup....i wonder if a photoelectric switch that would let it run in low light conditions might be better than a timer...possible future upgrade
