JD that was great information. Thanx so much. I bought 6 acres in central with a river and i will be building a small home. I arrive in December. This is great information for future use to paint on all wood. Appreciate your research and info. Cheers. Glad to have you back. Gina in Upstate New York USA moving to Portugal/Italy

Happy to spread the knowledge, I definitely wish I knew about this in the past. Plus the main treatments here are cypermethrin based which I would be surprised if that lasts more than a year with the heat and sun here

Borax is still used for laundry in the U.S. It’s still sold in the grocery stores, I have some in my laundry room.

They use to use Borax as laundry soap way back in the day early 1900 ,maybe 1800s . My grandmother 👵 made soap 🧼 using it

I was exactly in your situation, unbelievable that there is no commercially available product in Europe that's used in almost every framed house in the US 🤯 I'm guessing it's because of lack of such houses here... There are a few wood-insect insecticide products but they've all got some carcinogens in them - no, thank you...
@My15KHouseАй бұрын
Exactly, and the ones here aren't for long term prevention, so you'd have to keep poisoning your house every few years, really mind boggling to me

Another post, J D asked about your garden? I'd like to know as well, as you were away, or did you ask neighbour to at least water the plants 💐🐝
@My15KHouse2 ай бұрын
I just let the rain water it, winter is wet enough to not have to do any watering. I think pretty much everything survived except the strawberries (and the neighbor's sheep got out and ate the broccoli) but I didnt get back in time to have a summer garden so I will start a winter one when the rains start back up in the fall

Thanks, I was looking to see if anyone had made it and done a video. Pounds and ounces, fluid ounces though,.. honestly what an indefensible nonsense. Now in Europe you can look forward to a future without that rubbish! :)

1/2 gallon is 64 ounces. 8 ounces is 1 cup. 1 cup is just under 240 ml.

According to the european REACH regulation Borax and Boric acid are substances of very high concern. Both are classified H360FD (May damage fertility and the unborn child). Maybe that‘s the reason this is not standard.
@My15KHouse2 ай бұрын
I know thats why its not in the laundry section of the grocery store anymore, but every other wood treatment is way more toxic to people and the environment, just the fumes alone probably cause more damage to fertility and fetuses, thats what doesnt make sense to me, so there must be more to it than just that. But even in the US, if you just want to go pick up some from the hardware store, I've never seen it, just the "standard" super toxic stuff.
@kalle19572 ай бұрын
@@My15KHouseWell, to say that there are even more dangerous substances out there doesn‘t sound that important to me when I see you barefoot on the freshly coated floor.😱 I‘ve been following you since you posted your very first video. dont worry, I always wear the ppe when I need it, but for this I was only walking on the untreated parts so as not to make a mess, and for borates to be an issue you pretty much have to eat a not small amount. rest assured that I research everything as much as I can. here is a quote from a National Institues of Health study: "These in vivo results show that percutaneous absorption of boron, as boric acid, borax, and disodium octaborate tetrahydrate, through intact human skin is low and is significantly less than the average daily dietary intake. This very low boron skin absorption makes it apparent that, for the borates tested, the use of gloves to prevent systemic uptake is unnecessary." and from the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health: "It clearly appears that human B [boron] exposures, even in the highest exposed cohorts, are too low to reach the blood (and target tissue) concentrations that would be required to exert adverse effects on reproductive functions"

Can’t you get poison with those chemicals in your cooking pots n utensils you used ??
@My15KHouse2 ай бұрын
No, that is why I am using them. Propylene glycol is a food additive and the borates are about as toxic as table salt, and they are all water soluble so wash off easily
