I let my 17 year old nephew drive 2005 Kenworth W900L. Massive heavy haul truck, 18 speed Eaton transmission, lot of power from an acert twin turbo caterpillar. 625hp tuned up motor. Truck has the lift axle and long hood. Big heavy hauler rims and tires. Pulls a long ass Fontaine. I let him drive it first around the yard and the back roads that no one really drives on to teach him how, then I let him take it on the roads! I told him to get up on the highway after 2 weeks of practice, and the man did good! I’m proud of him, and your brother. He did awesome! My nephew wants to do what i do and maybe join along. I work at a towing recovery company and I drive and operate a 75 rotator tow truck. I’m also a diesel auto mechanic. He wants to do the same because of me and I’m real happy for him, and he’s got family member that’ll teach him all. He planning on going to a music and school for the mechanics and truck operation after highschool. He’s a talented guitar player since he was young! That’s why he wants to go to a music school also he tells me. He’s an awesome guy! Very nice to see you teaching your brother my friend! 🤘🏼

Hello brother, it’s so admirable of you to teach brother! I drove truck for the longest and had a much younger friend of mine that was always always interested in driving so I taught him same as your brother when he started with me... the boy stayed in trouble with the law and drugs and so I did this to try and get his idled mind interested in something other than drugs and man I’m so glad I did I gave him a CDL book and he studied and studied, today he is 25 has a Class A and is pulling a Loboy with a Damn Good looking Pete! I couldn’t be more proud!! By the way bro you’ve got some serious skills yourself!! Be safe brother!! 🤘🏻

HE LEARNED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND HE WAS SITTING ON THE DOGHOUSE! 10 YEARS LATER HE WAS HIRED AS A LABORER FOR A LOCAL CONTRACTOR, THEN HIS BOSS DECIDED TO TRY MAKING A DRIVER OUT OF HIM, AND WAS EXPECTING TO HAVE TO SPEND 2 OR 3 DAYS TEACHING SHIFTING! THE FIRST TIME OUT ON THE ROAD, TONY SLIPSHIFTED ALL 10 GEARS BEFORE HIS BOSS SAID A THING! WHEN HIS BOSS TOLD ME IT WAS MY BEST DAY OF TRUCKING!

He did good, I can just tell by the sound that it's a Mack (albeit a new Volvo made one). They are so easy to learn on and I don't care what anyone says, I'm 21 and learned on an R model with the 12 speed Maxitorque. I can relate as it's really just a 10 and was so forgiving when I learned.

TTVCharbel123 i love shifting the 18 speed transmission. Pretty cool he’s teaching you on a 18 first. Then the 13/10 speed will be a piece of cake for you.

Cat 231 that’s very easy just let the rpms drop, and give it a good rev and let go of the pedal. Will downshift by itself.
