When the Previa first came out in 91 it was way ahead of its time!

Truly epic van, it has the old, reliable, practical van feel to it. One of the last of it's kind in the age of luxurious minivans. Great video.

Congratulations on your Previa, the cooler that you referred to was called a console cooler and was available here in the late 80'$ and 90'$ you should not have any problems locating one as I remember seeing more than a few in those days. I am now looking for a Previa myself. Happy Holidays.

This is the best, most fun looking, most offroad capable (thanks to the All-Trac system) minivan ever built. Quite interestingly since it had RWD as well, people have used this van for drifting! :)

Nice video. I can sense your pride of ownership. I just recently purchased a 1992 double sunroof. I specifically wanted a double sunrof. It's kind of gimmicky, but a lot of fun in the Summer! I'm in Canada, so I was able to find one with the "cool" box, kind of gimmicky too, but still fun! I took my Mom for a cruise the other day, she loves it! She had a 1992 Tercel from brand new, and was in awe of all the features the 1992 Previa has for it's era. Fun rides, and with the double sunroof, no problem selling when your ready too. Thanks for the video and enjoy!

mine is a 1992, I love it. 244k miles and hopefully another 500k+ to go. I love the little van

Congrats to you for getting one. These are great little vans and actually, they are not as 'little' as they look from the outside, without the rear seats in place you can stack full sheets of 4x8 plywood inside between the wheel wells. Perhaps even with the rear seats up. I have a '92 and - believe it or not - was given a '95 (just like yours, but other color) last year. On the '92 I took all the back seats out and placed a simple plywood platform - hinged, to make access below easier - to sleep on for those longer X-C trips. Both have been down and up the Alaska Highway at some time and did well. Mileage is reasonable too, up to 25 mpg on some stretches. On the '95 the passenger-side captains chair was removed, the one on the driver's side turned backwards, and the rear seat behind flattened. Another, also hinged, piece of sculpted ply was fitted to sleep on, while the right rear seat stayed up. This allows for comfortable solo trips and a place to read in the back w/o being seen from outside, since the tinting on these things is superb. For the event when more than one person wants to sleep, the hinged plywood can be opened and rest on the then also flattened right side rear seat. All that's needed for additional support in the front is a foldable step stool near the front. As you said, not easy to do things like exchange the oil filter, and one cannot be sloppy when filling new oil, but overall a true and largely unrecognized gem. Take good care of it.

+SubtleKnowledge Nice posting ! I just bought a 93 all-trac for $900. Supposedly has a stall problem when warm but I haven't had it happen yet . I bought mine as a work (remodeling ) and camping van . I'd love to see a pic of what you did as you describe above . There are a few pics of Previas with mods done on Pinterest . Maybe you'd like to post there . Happy camping !

+SubtleKnowledge My plan is to get another previa, hopefully in all trac and make it a camper. But I have to make it comfortable for my family too.

Sorry for the late response. Haven't looked on KZbin / Previas in a long time. I don't have a Pintrest account, so there won't be any photos to show. In essence, it's like this: I took one captain's chair (passenger side) out, turned the driver-side one so it faces back, cut a 5/8 sheet of nice, smooth plywood so, that it lays across both, the flattened rear seat and onto the captain's chair sitting platform. Some shaping was necessary on both ends (at the captain's chair and in the back to accommodate the van's curve). This sheet is 2' wide along most of its length. Another one - its mirror image - is connected to the first one with a piano hinge, which allows it to be used as a single person sleeper or, when folded open, as a two person sleeper. When traveling solo, this allows for the remaining rear seat to be used as a comfortable place to sit, read or sponge off a Starbucks' WiFi, without having to deal with crowds. When folded open, a box or foldable step stool supports the foot-end where the removed captains' chair used to be (and allows for more stuff to be hauled too). Have fun.

Mine is a '91 with 291K miles and running strong. I threw away the third row seats and use the space to haul stuff like my bicycle. I also took out the rear A/C unit because I needed the headroom. I had to cap off the lines to the rear A/C, which wasn't easy but it's worth doing. I get notes in my windshield wipers all the time offering to buy it but I don't think I would take under $10K for it. I'm keeping mine as long as I live.

The Previa has sports car stats, being supercharged (normally in sports cars), MID ENGINE (Common on sports cars), RWD/AWD (Common on sports cars and/or trucks), and, as a bonus, a MANUAL TRANSMISSION! Sadly, only the N/A version came with the manual. Now that I realised that, this is my favorite minivan of all time.

cvtroger Just love this van. I have a Lucida Emina - selling it tomorrow - trading it in against a 2005 Estima Aeras. ... So sorry to say goodbye to it. What a great van. Love what you did with the captain seats. I will have to look in to that. Enjoy your vehicle. Regards from Ireland.
@f31roger9 жыл бұрын
bronteburns Awesome man! Are Lucida Emina popular there? I was in Ireland in 2009, Staid in Bray and went around to Wicklow Gap, Giant's Causeway and Cliff's of Moher. I loved it there and plan to go back one of these days! Let's keep in contact and if you have any friends with the lucida or emina, I would like to ask questions and even measurements. I read that both models are smaller than the normal estima, but I wanted to see where! The newer Estimas are awesome as well!

In some ways those were better equipped than the Dodge Caravan built around the same time, when talking about cargo space and interior features, I know when the Dodge caravans the rear facing middle seats came out around 2010. Also the Dodge Caravan rear cargo space sucked.

Nice van. I hope I can have that kind of deal here in China. But man these Previas are expensive here. A brand new one costs around 65K to 70K, in USD.

Zhang Luke That price has to be the new estima. Try looking at the 90's versions. I know the estima lucida and estima emina are also available there (I think). good luck and make a video when you do get one.

I would love to own a 1995 toyota Previa LE S/C Alltrac or the LE S/C RWD with dual sun roofs. I would also like to have the middle row captain's chairs that can rotate, as well as a red exterior with grey trim at the bottom and with the same wheels as yours. Also, models from 1994 and up only had a 4 speed automatic, I would swap the 5 speed manual from the 1991 model into it.

One of the only bad things about this van is its safety, it did horrible in the front crash test. Most likely due to the engine placement
@f31roger8 жыл бұрын
True. Can we say this about all the van's with mid engine as the people are close to the front? While standards are always improving, this was the flaw of this vehicle.
@Y10Q8 жыл бұрын
yes, but no vehicle is safe in a crash, no matter how well or how badly it did in those tests. Sienna is nowhere near quality wise, as far as wear and tear goes. Sienna is like a Camry, whereas Previa was built like a truck and it rode like a car. Fuel economy between a Sienna and Previa is identical, 21. Siennas computer says 27 on the highway, but it gets 21
@mapley21678 жыл бұрын
Well it's true that no vehicle is safe in a crash. But certain vehicles perform better than others due to many reasons (engine placement, crumple zones, structure, airbags, head restraints, etc).
@Albisriede7 жыл бұрын
I agree. NO vehicle is 100% safe. Some years ago when I drove coaches for a large carrier, hauling tourists around, one of the coaches got involved in a head-on collision when a pick-up veered out of control, into the the coach's lane. In the process the pick up caught fire, which eventually spread to the coach. Although all passengers were able to escape, the unfortunate driver was pinned and died in the fire. Sometimes luck is not on our side, but we can help it along a bit by driving defensively. My old 'beater' got 23+ mpg driving from Alaska to California. I thought that was mighty nice for 26-year old rig and over 200k miles on the odometer. Good luck with your Previa.

ive been around 4 of these two the alltracs im looking to by one and build a rat outta it lowerd mat bla k paitn smoothie wheels and a little build on the motor mabey a sawp to like a ae101 motor
@f31roger9 жыл бұрын
+thyringmaster the motor is in a tight place and it is small, hence why you don't hear anyone that has swapped in a different motor. When I bought my van, I was hoping to to hear a 2jz swap or something... but nothing. The access ports are small if you see the motor of the previa, it is sideways, in looks and function. I would rather have put in a better motor!
@thyringmaster9 жыл бұрын
well ive been around them alot and talked to other owners i was wanting to just build the stock 2tzf-ze 4 banger just for some more power mabey go from the 160 or so sttock to like 180 its not so hard you just need time money and willpower as far as motor swapos go i refuse to be told i cant do something im also planing on building a levin or trueno mabey a ae101 swap
@f31roger8 жыл бұрын
+thyringmaster Anything is possible when it comes to motors. If you seen these motors, they are set up sideways (pistons pushing out the passenger side) and the top where the intake manifold is, flat. The engine is either a 2TZ-FE (N/A) or 2TZ-FZE (supercharged). Google the picture of the motor and you will see how it is set up. It is unique to the previa. I bought my van with a blown head gasket with intentions of rebuilding it. I was sorely disappointed when there wasn't anyone who swapped in a better motor, because I had money for the rebuild and I would have loved to get a more powerful motor to replace. My search found nothing and even the drift estimas in Japan used the same motors, just fully built. With out compromising structure, It's a tight spot underneath the seats and as I as told on Toyotavantech, that the motor as designed for the van only, hence no other vehicle has the same motor.
