Care a little less of what people think. Be more in the moment (shot by shot) and your audience will either hate you or like you regardless of how you do. I didn't like you at first because you were all over the place but your hard work made me do a 180. I'm guessing that's why your channel has done so well. Just keep up the hard work good and things will come.

@@brianc1651 I agree as most have been playing since age 9--12 maybe even younger and here is Anthony Bondanza and playing as nearly a 1000 rated player and after 2 years prior of playing Disc Golf going to play on the Disc Golf Pro Tour. Only player I can think of like him is from Aberdeen South Dakota Ezera Aderhold where he has had some of shortest time from learning disc golf to being on Pro Tour, his only flaw is Esera is bit cocky due to being 21 at oldest.

Hah I've gotten a lot better over the last year and one thing I noticed last year is what when I started hot or was playing well I would almost struggle harder than if I started bad or flat. I was doing the same thing you are talking about where my mindset switched to try and "protect the good round I am having". "Playing safe sometimes is playing insecurely" is an excellent way to put it. Props to your wife for caddying and also offering up wisdom like that. If you're playing your best when you're playing confident and loose, you gotta keep that mindset for the whole round no matter what is happening. Great vid, it's been a treat following your journey.

Soo Proud of you Bodanza! I believe you will not only make the cuts, start cashing, but also you will start finishing top 10 and eventually win a tour event! There are a few reasons why I believe that. One of them is because of your courage to be vulnerable and relatably, and beautifully document your journey before you are ready. The fact that you are Humble and never stop learning, connecting, and developing from and with other players is huge. And Possibly the main reason why I believe in you is the honest self reflection, assessment, and internal work you are doing mentally, and working through your mindset, thoughts, and emotions to make yourself more and more of a man! That Man, is going places. Keep it up, I'm not alone when I say I am not only rooting for you but also, You are living out so many of our dreams with your bravery, work, mindset, commitment, skills, etc. Thank you for doing this. We'll see you around.

It is so funny how people keep doing what we all did your first year plus with this channel. Everyone wants you to calm down and enjoy the process. Breath a little. But the truth is that hard work, chaos and self deprecation are your brand! That is what got you so far so fast. And you are obviously doing this all on purpose. And it is working. Good on ya. Good advice but I imagine it's hard to be there as a player and also be there as a fan at the same time. Being right behind the FPO lead card watching the disc golf goddess that Kirsten shred and take control of tournament right before your eyes has to be a distraction to you playing your own game as good as you are capable. But IMHO so worth it. Thanks for taking along the ride. And good luck with the qualifier.

1st huge shout out for putting yourself in the position to even be able to play a elite plus tournament, 2nd finishing even is awesome for 1st legit tournament, 3rd the experience of feeling and dealing with the emotions of competition is priceless. My best advice that I could offer with emotions during competition is don't try to ignore or block them but recognize them for what they are and use those feelings un your favor whether that is discing up or down playing safe or aggressive whatever the moment is telling you. Be in the moment and present and have a good time

@joshpuhach2709
@joshpuhach2709 5 ай бұрын
Here's what I think: keep striving to make content like this. Push yourself to keep making these events a playing with these players. NO ONE ELSE ON KZbin IS DOING THIS! It's what's making you unique in the disc golf scene. Sure, guys like Simon and Eagle have channels too, but your content is much deeper than that and shows us as an audience what the pro tour is like from many more angles than we have seen before. This is the best type of content you put out in my opinion. Yeah sure, I don't mind the disc reviews and casual rounds, but I can also go to other channels for those things like Foundation, etc. But let's be honest, you're the only real creator-first player that has a shot at making these events lol. So please, keep doing this! It'll take time, but we are here to support and I am sooooo excited to see how you grow and change this year. And here's to hoping a tour card comes soon :)

Two things. 1) Everyone watching is proud of you just for getting there. You played your first mpo tourney last year ffs. I know people that have played mpo for years that have never tried to get on tour. 2) you're not the best player there and I know you know that. If you want to finish well you have to play hot. Playing hot is going to require aggressive play from you. Of course don't be dumb about it but if you have 50+% chance to birdie a hole you should go for it. Worst case scenario, you get the expected result. Just my 2c, but everyone is stoked to see you at these big events and showing/documenting your growth in a public way like this. Like you said, there's no substitute for experience so get your reps in and enjoy yourself. You're making memories for a lifetime right now.

I play with 3 styles of play. They're passive, assertive, and aggressive. 1) The passive approach is conservative. Focus on safe landing zones. Try to par every hole. If it's a longer hole that's tough to par, then I'll be satisfied with a bogie. I will sometimes start playing in this style, until I feel like I can increase the intensity a little. If my mental game is off, I fall back to this mode. 2) The assertive approach is optimized. Focus on the farthest landing zone I can reach. Aim for birdies if possible, but still play with a cool head. This works if I can stay in the moment, and my mental game is strong. 3) The aggressive approach is if I'm in the zone. I've had some times where the throws are dialed in, and I'm hitting long putts confidently. Generally there's no mental issues, which allows me to play this way. That said, I haven't been able to be in this mode often. I'm mostly between the passive and assertive modes. I shift between these styles if needed. If my accuracy is falling off, or I'm just shanking shots and having the yips, I'll dial it back. It's like having a 3-speed transmission, and I focus on using the "gear" that best fits how I'm playing. Just passing this along to you to consider. Best of luck to you this year, Anthony!

A quick tip. Never think "dont shank", "dont hit that tree", "dont throw it bad" etc. Your brain cant register negatives (or something like that), so those thoughts with "dont" in them turn into "shank", "hit that tree", "throw it bad". When I play a tournament and I realize I think in those terms, I step back, spam my thoughts with what I want to do, not what I dont want to happen. Its strange, but it kind of works. Think positive, and positive things will happen, think negative and negative things will happen. Its kind of the same with how you're feeling about your play. If you're bitter and angry about how you play, things will go downhill quite fast. Enjoy it, even if it is going bad. If it goes bad for me during play, I try to find fun things to do to. Like, try "fun" shots, so I have something to look forward to XD

Dude, you’ve been playing TWO years and were competing with the best of the best. I swear, i feel like you don’t give yourself enough credit, which is frustrating. You bust your ass and look where it’s got you in 2 years. It’s going to come. It was your first even. Keep killing it

Rooting for ya Anthony! You had me glued to pdga live all weekend, and it was awesome to see you put up a 1000 rated round on the pro tour. Excited to see what else you can do this season, you just gotta learn how to tap into that competitive mentality!

You're always looking for the disc to do what you think it will. You haven't even played with your discs for a month yet. Just learn the discs, and the game will follow. Quit trying to find a disc for a hole and find the angle that you need for the most comfortable discs you have.

I think this is great advice. When this channel was more about disc reviews and challenges, I understood the constant churn. But if the focus is going to be competitive play, the bag needs to normalize. Some guys have been throwing the same exact discs for fifteen years.
