Patriarkh is one of my fav black metal bands atm, really killing it. Formerly known as Batushka, they've gone through some controversies (seems more like a rule than exception in the world of black). They often sing eastern Europe orthodox hymns. I'd describe black as more hard and harsh compared to death, sharper sounds and commonly with some atmospheric dark tones, while death to me is warmer and thicker, more bass and thicker growls. Some bands to check out are Dimmu Borgir (try Gateways (LIVE - FORCES OF THE NORTHERN NIGHT), kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnjSkp5qfrh2hrc ), and Cradle of Filth (e.g. Malignant Perfection, the track which some may not consider black but def has that tone to it... ). Epic stuff.

Black metal is a lot more atmospheric and diy than death metal even though the two genres sound similar they are definitely very different. Think in terms of vocals the differences is that black metal tends to be more high-pitched screams and death metal is low grows.

If you like the combination of screams and traditional singing, I’d recommend checking out a band from Denmark called Myrkur. Amalie Bruun really brings a lot of atmosphere and energy with her singing and guitar skills
