Just a point worth mentioning - when using stick n stitch, always wash and dry your fabric before you begin. This avoids the problem of shrinkage.

If you don't have a printer you can transfer the pattern by hand using the light from your window or some lamp, it's pretty transparent and you can see the lines through it.

you ask what would I like in a bundle. I would love something a bit more modern and racy. I was never interested in embroidery, always thought of it as an old fashioned craft, even though im crafty and make a lot of my own products. But a few years ago I got interested but yet have done anything except buy thread and needles. And what got me interested was an embroidered pillowcase a saw of a women's naked curves from upper thigh to mid waist with her female "part" being covered with a burst of flowers. Iv been intrigued ever since would love to do something of this sort. Sure im not alone in this

Like your designs as they are simple with basic stitches yet so very elegant..am specially swayed by all your animals. Will get your cats when the kits are at Joann's - among others of course! Usually it is recommended to use 100% cotton. I have also heard back from an embroiderer in South America who uses Panama cotton cloth. It looked like a heavier cloth. I would like to know what kind of cloth specifically she is using, too! Hope this helps. Also, I just read where she commented on someone else’s reply that she likes cotton muslin.

A small pair of scissors, a pack of embroidery needles, a needle threader, a pin cushion for threaded needles, a six inch clear ruler with a magnifier down the center of the ruler, a transfer pen/pencil, a leather thimble because it fits most sizes, a small simple pattern like a flower or the sun with rays, and a small suggestion booklet suggesting type of fabric, thread, colors and/or uses, a 4-6 inch hoop and a short list of web sites where other patterns or information can be found.

Love your work Alyssa- you make it look so easy and fun! I echo what others have said about needle size primer (I know I have needles that I certainly don't know what size they are or what their purpose is). Not that you want too many options but maybe a "build your own kit" where people can add the variety of items they want? That would also let you be flexible with patterns, people have lots of different tastes with that and some might want a hoop and others a tea towel? Can't wait to see what you come up with- no doubt it will be adorable! And I am reminded i have the hedgehog somewhere and MUST work on him!!! Best wishes!

I am relatively new to embroidery, and I am still uncertain about what needles to use with what threads. I also use a light fusible interfacing behind my fabric so that my darker threads don't show through the front. I guess what I am thinking about is a little (very basic) primer (or a chart) on needles, threads and fabrics along with a couple different needles and small amounts of various thread types. Must include the erasable pen (love that puppy), small scissors or thread snips, a simple pattern, and fabric to sew it on.

A simple (not cartoonish) (maybe a sweet flower) pattern with a little bit of sulky to try. What needle with what thread and on what fabric. Like muslin, quilting cotton etc. Hoop (4" - 6"), needle threader, 3-4 different size needles, ten basic beginners stitches to work on pattern(s). No, but it doesn't need to be. You stitch right through it and then it dissolves in water. So you can use a dark fabric or any other fabric that's hard to trace that's ok if it gets wet.

How do we get a design inside another design like the flowers on cup?
@marciagilbreath32397 жыл бұрын
I would put in a good sized piece of backing fabric, 2 or 3 different small designs, a regular embroidery needle and a milliners needle, a stitch key for each pattern with simple instructions for the stitches used, and a small bundle of floss. Keep it inexpensive so newbies aren't afraid to lay out a lot of money only to find out that embroidery is not for them.

Loved this video on the Stick N Stitch product. Is there a specific size/brand embroidery needle that works well (or that you use) with this type of transfer method as you are actually going through 2 layers or doesn't it matter?
@Penguinandfish5 жыл бұрын
I like using a size 5 embroidery needle. You want the eye of the needle large enought to be able to thread floss through it, and you want it to have a sharp point. Make sure it's an embroidery needle vs a cross stitch needle. An embroidery needle has a sharp point while a cross stitch needle has a blunt point which makes it hard to pull through fabric. The Stick'n Stitch is so easy to stitch through. I have no trouble pulling a needle through it.
@tanaparamore65205 жыл бұрын
What if you are using this on a back pack you can’t soak in water. Can you use a wet cloth to dissolve it.
@Penguinandfish5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Tana. If you're using a fabric that you can't get wet, I would use a tear-away product. Stabilizers are categorized pretty much by how they go on and how they come off. I would look for one that you can hand baste to your backpack (so you'd want one that doesn't iron or stick on), and that you can tear off. It's finicky tearing the stabilizer off but with a fabric that you don't want to get wet, iron, and can't trace through, I think a tear away stabilizer is the way to go.

Just a quick question, I saw this somewhere online. Can you do the stick n stitch method with regular paper sort of attached to the fabric since paper dissolves too? Or would it not work the same?
@Penguinandfish4 жыл бұрын
You could do it with paper, but paper is definitely thicker and heftier. If you're using paper, I would carefully tear away the paper when you're finished embroidering instead of trying to disolve it. I've heard of people using Glad "press'n seal" to do the same thing. With that you can see through it and see your fabric while you're stitching.

I would use the light table or window method if you don't intend to get your piece wet or the thread is not colorfast. The color might bleed from the thread. I also use Pellon #SF101 on the back of piece. It hides all the running stitches and gives the piece some body.
