@OtoKano The first thing that came to my mind when I saw those well stacked white palettes containing perfectly organised Holbein dots along with the pigment chart was, "It has to be Oto Kano!" Thank you Ms Kano for your detailed reviews. I actually got myself a 24 shade Holbein set as they are an amazing set (so many purples! Yay) and thankfully Japanese products are much more affordable in India than those from other countries... Love from 🇮🇳. P.S. your site seems to be down for the last couple of weeks at least in India.

Exactly. I made a quiet plea in the description that although I love my community's support, it's gotten quite overwhelming and I've really hit my mental cap. I very appreciative of their support, but at this point food and shelter is a much, much more pressing need than more paint 😂

I like a travel pallete where I can also store brushes in a way they wont get damaged. Daler Rowney do one but I swapped out colours for some professional Winsor and Newton and will swap again for maybe a few Daniel Smith paints and a gouache white. I like my DR little palette because there are several brush line holders plus I can fit in it: a short 2 1/2" pencil shaved on two sides to make it flatter, a piece of kneeded eraser, a small piece of foam/scrubber cleaning pad for texture painting and even an old false eyelash glue bottle which I cleaned out and fill with masking fluid! My Pro-Arte Retractable set of 3 brushes I have no worries about damaging in my bocket or bag. My rigger, I use a pair of shirt collar stiffeners wrapped near the bottom with sellotape. I can squeeze it and bush the rigger handle between the stiffeners all the way down until the bristles are covered. I never have to keep plastic tubes which never work. A friend suggested two strips of packing case tape as a cheaper alternative. Water bottle and 3 cups, 1 to drink, 1 for dirty brush washing 1 clean. I'd love to see a video of others alternate suggested fixes along these lines please. :)

I still consider myself new to watercolor, and I have learned SO MUCH about color from watching your palette tours, color spotlights, and swatching videos! I refer to your "Top 5" series again and again. Your clear, knowledgable explanations of pigments and paints are really helping me narrow down my options for my "main palette". Really loving learning from your expertise.

Thank you so much Steve. I'm so glad my fascination with watercolor pigments and comparison is appreciated by the community. I'm happy to keep creating content as long as it's still useful! Your content is invaluable to me as well as landscapes continue to allude me, but your work always reminds me the importance of keeping things loose and not over-complicating my compositions. I love both the technical and intuitive approaches to watercolors!

we separate colors the same way, though yours is a lot cleaner than when i mix colors ^^ it's always a treat to see other people's palettes since you never know what new ideas you can pick up. it never occurred to me to stick the swatch on the cover and squeezing those extra yellows on mixing wells to keep from contamination is brilliant

You are on your watercolor journey and like me, you will find your perfect palette soon. The overwhelming feeling just tells you to find your best mixing power in your collection. To have so many colors is considered a privilege by many and you should not feel bad, but instead grateful and proud that you have a passionate hobby. Passion makes great stories, it is the wheels in human history for better and worse. Art is a passionate hobby for me too and almost a lifestyle so I understand that people like us soon learn that what and how we paint often determine what is useful colors. I had to look at my favorite art and figure out what colors the skilled artist used on his or her palette and then go and experiment a lot on my own. I was not born a master artist so I had to enjoy the journey of learning. When I was a kid and a young adult I was better than most but I need to give credit to my passion for art because without it you will not find the time and the stubbornness to continue to learn. I like to have more than one project going, and I paint cityscapes, landscapes, wildlife and botanical art in several different mediums so I am high maintenance, so no vacations, no expensive clothes etc... Life is about choosing what is important to you. That means to trade with other superficial stuff to do what is meaningful to you and I think that is a very healthy trade. I consider it my luck to have found what makes me peaceful and happy. The overwhelming feeling of too many colors is just a part of the journey and the feeling of gratitude and peace when you finally have created a palette(s) that suits your needs is also a part of the same journey. It is about perseverance, a healthy challenge and what I see, there is not enough time to learn it all, so I consider it an adventure of great things to come, and that my friend is art, a never-ending story of great things to come. Each painting has a story, each artist tells a story about what they see and who they are in a pocket of time. Artists are storytellers in a continuous creative movement. I wish you good luck on your journey ;)

It is overwhelming having so many watercolors. For holidays and birthdays I receive art supplies. I love my relatives for this but I wanted to grow into the mediums so I had bought student grade watercolors, student grade gouche. What do I get for my birthday? Holbein gouche and a few Daniel Smith, Windsor and Newton, Finetech, Dr.Ph Martin's. Know I feel bad bc I have these supplies I bought used for about 5 months and *BAM!!!* Family wants to see me use what they got so they were rendered "useless" and I was thrusted into using those instead. So what did I do bc throwing them away is wasteful? Well I bought 4 $4 18 well palettes. Filled them up and gave them to a church along with those tubes of Reeves paint. Sort of gets it off my conscious and I don't feel as wasteful. >_> really did just want to practice with them for a while before saving money but hey I've been blessed with a loving family.

ShantelJ. Palomo Paints last a really long time (like years and years!!). It’s totally normal to keep lower quality paint that you’d be comfortable beating up completely in a sketchbook or practice pieces. But it makes me so happy that you decided to donate them (and in palettes too!!)

This was fun ! Thanks for the video. I house my M Graham’s in the bullet proof glass palette. What I found that works to make the mixing area easier to work on is to take a magic eraser and go over it a couple of times, it made quite a difference in keeping the paint from beading up. 💞💫

I think the art world needs a bigger vocabulary, to distinguish between palette as colour choices, and the physical device to hold or transport colours. I am very interested in choice of colours, but not so much with the physical palettes (I often just use a lid from a tub of dates) :-)

I have 5 of the Mijello palettes, three with the decreed colors for classes I've taken, one for personal favorites, and one where I put the overflow that jumps out of new tubes. Then I have multiple metal and travel palettes. And mostly I paint at home from dabs of colors picked for specific projects placed around the sides of a white porcelain plate. I have more paints and palettes than any amateur should have. It is overwhelming.

Wow, that are quite a lot of different paint pallets. I'm quite a newbie with art, especially watercolors. Only recently I've bought an actual watercolor pad. before I simply tried to use my sketchbook, which did not really appreciate having water used on its pages. But I find I'm quite hesitant at using colors and especially brighten/darken things up. Not sure how to get out of that panic headspace as soon as the colors are getting a bit brighter. If you've got any tips, I'd love to hear them.

I have a couple of the 48 half pan Meedeen tins... The only way I have been able to get pans into the centre row, is to bend the small rails for the half pans toward the larger tabs with a pair of pilers... Then I use Winsor & Newton, or Daler Rowney half pans in the centre row, as the plastic on them is thinner than Schmincke, etc half pans. It can be done, just takes some effort. I have managed to cram 63 half pans into one tin to hold my currently 61 different Winsor and Newton professional colours (I'm the buyer for art supplies at an independent store. I consider it research, lol).

I STILL haven't been able to set mine up and it's killing me! Haha. Another commenter did mention that their DS paints had a hard time staying in the palette since they release so easily. May be worth adding a touch of honey or glycerin to some of the dryer pigments like ultramarine - but I don't know first hand!

In Liquid Color Yes, I’ve noticed that colors like ultramarine had a harder time staying put in my old DS. Pallet. I was thinking about adding a touch of honey for that reason. Glad to know that I’m on the right train of thought.

Very enjoyable. My favorite is a card holder I gutted to fit my Daniel Smith primary plus Windsor Newton earth tones, 18 total half pans. It fits in a sandwich ziplock with my Rosemary & Co. brush. I got a Portable Palette during their fundraiser after watching Teoh's review, but it's filled with the Turner set, too many to choose from. Guess I love a limit & would rather learn by mixing color for now. I buy discount store white glass salad plates on vacations to use for mixing. Keeps luggage weight down and a fun memory.

There seems to be so few 📈 *intermediate* KZbin videos 🎦 for watercolorists 🖌🖍📒Thank you for this. I’ve just starting catching on to the concept of having mixing space for the 3 secondary colors plus space for neutrals or the muted colors we mix and leaving them there. I have several of these palettes as I bumble around looking for the best solution. I am very happy that I have only put small piles of paint in the wells vs. filling them to capacity...or the opposite thing of cleaning out the palette after each use. Safe your strength for cleaning brushes, not palette. Thanks!

Re: all the paint... S/he who dies with the most art supplies wins! PS I know that one, about having too many art supplies, and being a bit overwhelmed. Like I have some of those Genesis heat-set oils I bought when a store was closing, and I haven't broken them out and tried to use them. Or those water-mixable oils, I used them once, and haven't broken them out again. I'm debating about what I should let go, and what I should keep. Definitely probably should let all my student grade stuff go. I recently sold off about 26 tubes of Grumbacher Academy paint for .50 cents a tube. I also have too many palettes. Like I've got the large Pike palette, and a heavy porcelain palette of the same style. I recently got some Daniel Smith paints, and I'm thinking about filling it up with those. But I don't have a studio, I live with relatives, and my painting area is about the size of the computer keyboard. I keep thinking about taking a painting class on continuing ed at the local community college just for the studio space. (Because if no class is in session, you can go into the classroom and use it as studio space. For only about $170 for the whole semester.) Ooops sorry for the long comment....

I love palettes that are large but also portable, I usually bring backpacks places, so things that are flat actually work better than a compact but clunky palette 😊

Reviewing paint is my job, so I've ended up with quite a lot of paints. As I mentioned both in the video and in the description, I don't exactly think this amount of paint is healthy to own in general.

Impressive collection ❤️ I can relate a lot. My Collection is quite big as well and some of my sets definitely deserve more love. Also, I noticed, I like the sets I put together myself more than the ones I bought as a complete set. No regrets though😅 every brand has it’s own values. Sometimes I use several palettes for one painting. I mostly use my Schmincke, for fancy effects my Daniel Smith, for a brighter color my Mijellos...and so on. Sorry, I could ramble about watercolors for hours. ☺️

Really excited that the tip of using a different mixing well for each color was recommended by an artist! I figured out that tip because my palettes would get stained really badly so I designed each well a color so It will just get stained by that color if that makes sense😂 and also to keep the mixes organized of course

Re your big ceramic watercolour pallet - I have the same pallet but put the paint out on beer bottle tops so I can rearrange them and add and remove colours. I assumed that I would end up with the perfect collection of colours but that never happens. I keep changing my colours. Despite this there is a bonus - the consumption of a range of interesting bottled beers.

I am just starting to learn how to paint with watercolor. Mixing has been one of my biggest challenges. Mixing enough, getting the right mix...grays and earth tones in particular. I love the idea of setting up designated areas for the secondary colors. I typically mix a color for my painting ...run out and struggle to duplicate it. Hoping this will help. How do you know how much paint to use in each area?

Thanks Denise! This video came at a perfect time. I have my Precious M Graham paints in the same mission mijello blue air tight palette, like you have. Which is my favorite btw. Well I am out of space and need to upgrade to another option, or just pick up another one. My concern is I am constantly watching them, leaving them cracked open to dry as I have kitty's. They are kept away when I paint, but their hair easily finds my paints. You have cricket, so you understand,lol... I have concern, this type of palette may not be the one, as I've heard others have concerns about mold with tis palette. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions on this subject? I'd appreciate any advice or experience you may have regarding M Graham in these palettes. As always a great tutorial. Thanks so much!

Hmm, I haven't had any issue with the few Mission Gold paints in those fusion palettes (they also have honey). I keep my MGrahams in my open studio palette (loose plastic cover) and the tin, which isn't air tight. I also live in a relatively arid area, so that's probably why I don't have issues. Id recommend drying them out between uses, but as long as there isn't water puddled you should be fine. Honey is a natural preservative.

In Liquid Color Denise thanks so much. I appreciate your feedback on this. I'm in ever changing Michigan seasons. I'll keep enjoying my mijello fusion palettes and take your advice you gave about your large porcelain palette which is gorgeous btw, and not fill the wells completely full. Easy since they are so concentrated and will last quite awhile...just in case, and it's great advice for especially since I'm still learning and do many other media's also. Have a great week. Looking forward for more videos coming up.

Landscapes and animals :) I really didn't appreciate even the subtle texture of even something as simple as a yellow ochre. When using my "favorites" palette trying to mix a soft earth yellow from quin gold and perm brown, the color is accurate, but it just looks wrong, if that makes sense hehe.

Hello! I love all your beautiful paints!I have the White Nights 24 colour set and I love them. I am wondering though about gouache. I've never used it and I was wondering what type you would suggest to a beginner? I've heard there is "regular" gouache and then "acrylic" gouache. I love water colour but am not very good at it yet. Thank you!

I just gave away 3 of my 4 pallets. I have wayyyy too many art supplies because I play in everything. Literally everything, polymer clay, ink, colored pencils, chalk and oil pastels, water color, gouache, graphite, paper mache. I try to keep everything minimal because if I dont my space gets really cluttered and it gets overwhelming so I cut down to using only 1 brand at a time and give away what Im not using.

I LOVE THE MIJELLO BULLETPROOF GLASS PALETTES!! I have the same silver one like yours but also the larger 55 black one. The mixing it a DREAM to use!!!!!! Thanks for all of the reviews and showing us all of your palettes. I'm looking forward to getting a large porcelain palette like the Watercolor Misfit (Carrie Luc) has on her channel. Holbein is my favorite watercolor which I found being used by Maria Raczynska (Maria Morjane) on her channel. I tried the Shinhan but hated it because the pigment doesn't stay on the paper, the waterglass ends up with all of the pigment in it, and you can only paint one area with a certain color due to the pigment problem. Thanks so much for sharing! Hugz, Tree

On the pink and blue Mijello palettes, and others, it appears that you had a swatch paper affixed to the palette, and it looked like it was varnished somehow. How did you do that, if you don't mind my asking? I love the idea! Thank you for sharing your paint collection! I'm on the way to the same collection issue, if i don't catch myself, quick! Lol

I really enjoyed seeing your collection. I have a few of the Micelle Fusion palettes and love them. Your swatch cards for each palette are impressive. How do you laminate (or where do you have them done)? Also, how did you adhere the swatch cards to both metal and plastic?

The "lamination" is just packing tape :) And I roll up packing tape for painters tape underneath them, then tape the edges with the clear packing tape in most cases.
