If it's any consolation, my 2018 XLT F150, 3.5 ecoboost with the 10 speed had similar issues in the first month of ownership. A quick trip into the dealership and some monkying around with the software and it has operated smooth as silk now for 3 years and 65,000 kms. I pull a 5000 lb RV long distances and it has been a dream transmission. Good luck with yours man.... I'm loving my truck. Appreciate the information. I bought a 2021 XLT Sport in March of 2021. Initially loved it. I bought it 3 hours from home, so the interstate ride home was a dream. However, as days went on, I started noticing little things I didn’t like on everyday roads, shifting being one of those complaints. I’m not rich, so I don’t get to buy new often, and I know a first year model always has problems, but for a $57k sticker (paid $46k), I expected some of the basic problems to go away. (1) Shifting is very annoying and “clunky.” Not clunking sounds, but like the transmission doesn’t know where to go. And it’s very pronounced on hilly roads and at lower gears. To the point I worry about a shortened transmission lifespan. On hills, it’s definitely something I can’t just ignore. Why does quality have to go backwards? My 1984 F-150 shifted smoother. And the dealership says, “I didn’t feel anything that you don’t get from those 10-speeds. Keep an eye on it because you have plenty of warranty.” I only have 4,000 miles on this. (2) Sliding rear glass leaks at car washes. I know, I know, don’t spray it directly, but is that really the answer for a $57k truck? Don’t use automatic car washes? And worse yet, they replaced the complete back glass once and the new one does the same thing. (3) Interior noise, I believe coming from the passenger door. I believe where the armrest meets the door panel, it’s such a tight fit between two different materials that it constantly rubs. So, since I can’t make it go away, I turn the radio up louder. (4) Apple CarPlay has to cycle through any music app before it stays running. Regardless the app (I use Amazon Music), the music starts and runs for a bit before shutting the music off and I have to manually restart the music app. Not always the same amount of time before it does this, either, so it’s hard to troubleshoot. (5) Front end clunking. I’ve recently noticed an audible “clunk” when turning onto or off of any incline, such as a parking lot entrance/exit. Nothing crazy as far as the incline, but the clunk is unnerving. I’m sure there are more things to come, but if I could find something affordable to trade into, I’d drop this truck back into the market today. The dealership I purchased from is nearly 3 hours away and they know this, so they don’t reply to my emails. My local dealership just says, “well, that’s just how these things do…” Ford trucks used to be the standard. I could never afford a new Ford, so I’ve always wanted a new F-150 at some point in my life. I researched for over a year before I bought this and obviously should’ve researched or waited longer. Some days I feel like I’m just overreacting. Then, I think about the money and the fact that I bought this truck so I could enjoy driving again. There isn’t much else to do during a pandemic. I end up cussing this thing every time I take it out now. Probably not the epitome of enjoyable driving. Reckon they’d settle with me if I develop depression or end up gaining all my weight back?

So sorry to hear your story. I bought my very first brand new Ford F150 (Roush Nitemare 2019) and live in fear and regret every day. I can't get anywhere NEAR the 60K I paid for this rip-off from Ford. Found out after the fact that these Roush's are valued ONLY at the base model that they were built up from. In other words my XL is worth only 28K-35K the KBB of ANY XL. They totally 100% disregard the Roush supercharger and every other add on that Roush did in conjunction with Ford! I'm consigning this over to used car dealer on Saturday. Once again; my sincere condolences to you!

I have a 2020 Ranger, love the truck but the same transmission doing the same thing AGAIN. Took it in they reflashed it and it worked great for awhile and now it's back to doing the same thing. I'm no engineer or mechanic but I bet if they got rid of the "adaptive" learning and skipping gears these transmissions would behave much nicer. It's interesting when I put it in tow/haul without towing anything it works great, shifts smooth and no gear hunting. Put it back in normal drive mode and it acts up. Since it is still in factory warranty I take it to the dealership where I bought it at for oil changes and every time I go in I make sure they enter on the service ticket that I complained about the transmission. Might not get me anywhere but if it does blow up it's on file that I complained about it every visit. The 2018 F150 that I traded had much worse transmission issues but it was a lease so I wasn't as concerned about it lasting.

Mine has a 8-10 second delay from 2nd to 3rd gear. My workaround is to place the transmission in Manual as soon as I feel the power delay, once I get back to speed with other traffic, or out of a safety problem situation, I put it back in Auto and it's good to go. This happens about once a day when driving it, sometimes 2-3 times a day when driving it. I will definitely be taking this to the same or a different dealer soon.

Not ranting just happy I get to see this video and I think I'm gonna have bring this up with ford Motors directly. It's the same issue upshift from 1 to 3 is causing this very unbearable jilt/jump. I just complained about the hard shift at times, I was told at the dealer that it’s a 10 speed and designed to be that way? It shifts down depending on how fast I’m going and how quickly I want to stop. It can shift from 10th to 6th or 8th gear to 3rd. When it drops down a few gears that’s when it clucks or shifts hard into a lower gear! Just told yesterday that it’s designed that way, I even spoke to there Transmission guy ( was going to say tranny guy) and he said exactly the same thing. It’s better lately and never happened when I’m towing, but it’s concerning, 2021 with 42,000klm on it. Love the truck, real quiet ride 3.5 has serious power as well. I wanted to update on my Powerboost, after a couple trips to the dealership they found a part bad that had something to do with the on board power system. Needless to say I’ve put about two tanks of fuel through it and it has ran flawlessly. My fuel mileage has also went from approximately 18 mpg to almost 23 mpg since I’ve gotten it back.

Thankfully it’s been fine since and I’m 22k miles in now. It may have an occasional jerk but overall fine. I’ll try digging up my work order but they simply reset the software on the transmission . Apparently it has a learning adaptive feature that adjusts to your driving style and mine was shifting all wrong when they checked the software. Hope that helps

First of all, nice looking truck! What percentage of film did you go with? Doesn’t look bad at all 😎 Second, I Hope the reflash/reprogram helps you, and others, and I guess me too once my 2022 Super Duty has been built… For the prices they charge for these vehicles, the least Ford can do as they laugh their way to the banks while we schedule appointments for transmission diagnostics would be to listen to their customers, and consider someday bringing in the ZF 8-speed to the 150/SD market.
