I have walked away from trucks. I have had Tacomas, Frontier, and Ranger. I just sold my paid for Ranger and got an Outback. Just paid the difference. I make a good living. No debt. And it is simply financial suicide to buy a new truck. It isn't just the cost. It is gas, tires, and all of it. I just can't justify it anymore. First time I haven't had a truck in at least 15 years.

Thanks Tim, a good, fair discussion, I appreciate you. I scratch my head as well. I have one personal '22 F150 Powerboost Lariat and two leased '23 F150 Powerboost XLT trucks for my business. On top of that I have 10 leased F150s ranging in years from '21 to '23 for both the quarry and our engineering consulting firm. The only issues with any of these trucks was one dead starter battery from one of the Powerboosts from what I am told is lack of use and some of the truck door locks froze during certain weather; this was solved by the dealership for all the trucks and no problem since. We keep a battery tender on one of the Powerboosts cause it's use is intermittent. Yes, I've had my share of recalls but all of them were looked after during routine maintenance and a courtesy car was offered. None of the recalls resulted in me having to rush anything to the dealership for immediate work and some of the recalls include..... inspecting and re-wrapping a line insulating cover to the brake on the rear axle, replacing a wiper motor, replacing a module for the parking lamp flicker, re-flashing/programming a couple of the transmissions and a few others I honestly can't remember. Owning as many trucks as I do and for as long as I have and not having horror stories or inconvenience I'm led to believe that some of what I see on KZbin is exaggeration and fodder for talking heads (no criticism). I've involved myself more this time in the cross shopping for our leased truck replacement and it's been very interesting. Typically, we cycle through Chev and Ford trucks. I've been looking at some Tundras. I'm sure they're good trucks but honestly, I can't get by the design and fit and finish. The rear bumper is a mess of plastic parts, the step that Toyota offers to access the box of the truck might work for casual usage but try that out as a work truck (Not!), there's no front tow hooks, their hybrid has nothing comparable to the Ford Pro Power on Board, I don't think you can get the hybrid in a trim lower than the Limited and the fit and finish I've observed is bad, in fact it's the worst of any of the new trucks I've looked at. I took a couple pics of one of the Tundras on the lot to show what I found to a few friends. I expected a lot better from Toyota Each to their own, we should all buy what we like and can afford. I'm not a Ford or Chev sales person, I could care less what anyone else buys but go and do your own homework folks. Drive them, inspect them, take a good close look at how the body panels and seams look, compare brands, talk to the guy in the Costco or Home Depot lot and ask him what their experience has been like. Too many people are getting drunk on KoolAid at dealerships and fanboy websites. Disconnect your utility trailer with your atv in it and use/abuse your truck daily while making a living, then come back and share your experience. Welcome to the new world of trucks, "My team vs Your team"....... wow.

Got 21 PB Limited, got it used with 23K miles. Records show a battery put in a few months before I picked it up. Other than that it has had absolutely zero issues for me, tranny or motor issues. I do disable the sensors when turning off with a pop-up option as it sits for 5 to 7 days sometimes between use and for sure powering up electronics when it’s sitting will result in a parasitic drain. That said, I will trickle charge it every few weeks overnight to bring the battery charge back to 100% resting capacity, but it was never for any low battery/voltage situation. I am just being proactive as I have a Lexus with a lot of electronics which also has a bit of parasitic drain when it sits for weeks between running and active electronics, I’m sure that is the cause. Otherwise, the truck has been perfect and the service records prior to my ownership just show Ford Dealer maitenance, where perhaps flashing or required updating was done during scheduled maintenance, but it’s been dead-on great for me!

@@cwqrpportable That is the plan. I am running Penz Ultimate Platinum 5w-30 and will move to 0w-30 this next go around as I live in a cold weather winter climate (Colorado) and low temp oil flow is important. Having run a previous truck with a factory roots blower for over 130k miles, turbos, like blowers are hard on oil, causing a rapid sooting of the oil from high cylinder pressurization and blow by on the rings, thus dirtying the oil quicker. I can run about 4k, no more than 5 tops before the oil looks sooted. I am OCD about oil quality under severe boost pressures and good filtration.

@@SuperSnakePlissken Interesting, okay I'll accept the challenge. Let's break this down into bite size pieces. You wrote: ....."doesn't explain why no other vehicle has rust but his F-150". Not sure if you wrote that before you had a chance to think about what you were saying, but that's a bit silly isn't it? No other vehicle has rust, only the F-150?? Come on man.... You wrote: "You own four cars and not one of them has a spec of rust on them". Okay, that's great, my cars don't either. My F150s don't either except for the rear diffs and parts of the axle if you get down and look at it. You wrote: "You don't see any rusty trucks ever..... but F-150s you see rust all the time on those rear ends especially". Once again, a slight exaggeration of the facts. Other truck rear diffs rust too, maybe not to the extent that F150s do right off the lot lately but others do rust. Furthermore, F150s in the last 10 years do not display rust on their frames, leaf springs, etc anymore than any other truck. Even further, due to the amount of aluminum in their construction, rust is all but eliminated in the box and body panels. Ford has done a fantastic job on their frames, underbelly and body but have failed in the rear diff area. I understand that for 2024 there is more emphasis on providing a better coating to retard surface rust. And that's what it is....... surface rust, nothing more, nothing less. I think Toyota does the best job of coating their solid rear axle to slow down surface rust; now if they could only deal with their fit and finish up above where it can easily be seen..... Currently, I own and lease 13 F150s, one for personal/business use and 12 for my two businesses. Until Tim took a selfie of himself and made a video a while back about surface rust on F150 rear diffs, I never gave it a second thought. Why would I? Why would anyone? It's a non issue; the metal in that rear end and axle will outlive you and your children. Don't believe me, visit your local scrap yard.

Good job at delivering the facts and stating which years and models and not setting off alarms. My 22 reg cab is 2 yrs/24k mi and my last oil change dealer said "battery health getting low". Since warranty is 36k I said "how bad does it have to be to get replaced under warranty" and they immediately gave me the "not yet" speech! The battery issues are real. Another annoyance on f150s is that they start rusting in the first month you own it. Most $60k+ f150 owners will all agree its annoying when you spend so much.

Watched from Old Harbour Jamaica, first time on your channel. the Ford F150 are making much precents on our roads in jamaica far more so than the other brands. I have been hearing about the problems with them for years but my dad just bought a 2020 4x4 Ecoboost and so far he is happy with it especially with it's power and fuel consumption. My dad who is an old school auto mechanic will be 85 this April and most of his life stayed away from hightech monsters but these days we have no other choice. No matter how many brands of vehicles he owned over the years he always own a Ford of which he own a 1974 F250 which he build from scratched in 1979 but installed a 4 cylinder British Ford D series diesel engine and run it for over 30 years before he sold it and t is still running. It was slow, not smooth but a real workhorse and very economical.

I own a 2023 F150 purchased in July of last year. The way I fixed my low battery problems was to completely disable the zone lighting on the truck. It was constantly lighting up the truck every time I got within 10' of it and that was causing the battery voltage to drop low enough to get those messages on the Ford APP and sometimes cause the remote start not to work. I also had problems with a weird flapping sound coming from the drivers door which I fixed by adjusting the door latch and making it close a little tighter. The only problem I have now is vibration on the freeway that you can feel in the seat. I've replaced the tires and had a Roadforce balance done a couple days ago. Put some Bilstein shocks on the rear yesterday but haven't tested them out yet. I'm going back to RAM when the 2025s come out if this stuff doesn't work.

Yes. Not exclusive to PB. I had this issue and have 3.5EB. And you will know when the bolt has sheared as it will rattle around inside the wheel making a ton of noise. I fixed myself after hearing stories of Ford keeping people’s truck for days and weeks (this was before the recall was published). Then after the recall, I had the truck in and the dealer ‘followed the recall guidance’ and inspected the bolt. For some reason, after that service, I have a loud squealing noise coming from inside the axel. The noise subsides upon acceleration and is loudest when coasting. ffs….🫤

Only Ford consistently does the refresh thing every three years. Technically there's really no difference between a 2009 Ram and a 2018 Ram with the only real change being in 2019 and even the new 2025 looks the same as the 2019 except for the grille. Even the current GM trucks are the same junk underneath as they were in 2014 with the same 5.3 and 6.2 engines and even the same interior until last year. I like Ford (and RAM) but ford is the absolute worst.

I drive a 2021 XLT 3.5 non hybrid. The 10R80 is total garbage. It cooked at 46k miles. Total rebuild (warranty) I never tow or haul. My 2008 tundra 6-speed was smoother Other than the transmission... I absolutely love it. The engine is rock solid, and crazy quick for a truck. The handling, steering, comfort, 10/10 Super quite cabin, dash configuration is simple and practical. By far the best overall looking truck inside and out. Not over styled. Exterior is clean, sharp, and to the point. No funky and bulky bends, curves, and shapes like the new Tundra and GM's Did have battery issue... Going into battery saver mode at 80k miles. Small door adjustment Those things are what they are and don't bother me. It's a shame about the transmission, Probably enough for me not to purchase same truck again if they can't figure it out. The thing is so confused all the time... Always in too high of a gear, small slips and slams, pretty much every time I drive. You almost have to learn it's behavior and adapt the way you drive. For a $60k truck, you'd think Ford could give you a respectable transmission. Honest opinion and assessment from an owner.

7k miles on my 23 3.5 EB FX4 I’ll say it’s a great truck. Nothing is perfect but it is solid. Average mpg over 7k miles 19.4 currently getting 20.6 over the past 2k miles. I have one fender that is slightly misaligned where it meets to the door, which is a simple fixed, but a miss on Ford part. The carpet under the passenger glove box drips down on one side a little bit. Also a simple fix. The transmission is good but you do have to accommodate it with your throttle input or it could seem clunky. I put an oil can at 250 miles for the first 5000 miles, 2500 miles it was half full and it’s been steadily reducing as the engines breaking in and the MPG is steadily going up. I have no regrets I got 10 K and 2.9 for 72 months with the fuel efficiency and capability of the truck and the deal I feel like it’s a pretty fair price. Everything is just freaking expensive. Thanks a lot JB! VOTE for Trump!!!

My last truck was an F150 and I had quite a few issues with it over the +/- 55k miles I drove it. Nothing major but consistent. Bad paint on the roof, bad hubs, bad moonroof, door latches, oil leak, rust, etc. When it briefly became stuck in a low gear going onto the highway I knew it was time to sell it. I switched to a 2023 Tundra platinum and in the first full year I haven't had a single issue big or small. I will say the F150 did get a little better mileage in the city but the two are nearly identical on the highway.

I ended up buying a SCT tuner and there is an option on there to do a KAM reset. When you do the KAM reset the CPU forgets your driving habits and the transmission shifts like it should. The truck does re-learn your driving habits though so anytime I feel the transmission starting to not shift how I like I plug in the tuner and do a KAM reset.

Many people towing with the 2.7L engine have had them shutdown completely without warning. After letting the engine cool they were able to restart the engine and continue. Lower trim level trucks have the small H6 battery and with all the electrical drains taking place after the engine is shut off it would be wise to get an aftermarket H7 battery and a battery maintainer.

If you look at the industry and individual manufacturers over the decades the industry has demonstrated relative highs in QC and definite lows in QC. The same is true at the manufacturer level, and even further at the model level. There are so many variables that factor into the highs and lows that it’s likely impossible to pinpoint a single issue, but if you look at the impacts of government regulation on the industry and how each manufacturer approaches compliance with that regulation, you begin to see patterns. I think we are at a point in this cycle where in a few years we will see many of the QC issues resolved. There is no substitute for maturity of engineering and design. You can find several models across manufacturers that have had solid QC and that is a direct result of engineering maturity. (Toyota has historically taken this approach to the extreme.) If you want maximum reliability out of these new models you will have to wait. If you can’t wait, find those mature model generations and buy used.

Ok at 15k kms - reset the tables - didn't help, shifts like crap ( harsh upshift, feels like being rearended, harsh downshift - you can feel every downshift when slowing down). 15k kms - reset again - shifts like crap. 22k kms - dealer cant replicate the problem - shifts like crap. 30kkms - software update and reset - shifts like crap. 38k kms- transmission valve body replacement - shifts like crap. 41k kms - cdf drum replacement ( basically a transmission rebild at this point) - better, but still nosedives at every downshift... Overall I hate this truck just because of transmission - just can't enjoy driving this thing... Totally unacceptable for the price of the vehicle.

I just purchased a 2024 f150 xlt 3.5 ecoboost 5-12-24 and i have had it back to the dealer as of today 6 times. When you let the truck set over night or set for about 4 hours when you start it and drive it starts stumbling like misfires and it does this bad for the first two blocks driving under 35 mph then it starts to be less noticeable after it warms up and you drive 40 mph. I complained about it when i had less than 400 miles on the truck and now i have 4000 miles on it . I took it back today and told them that i love the truck but its doing it worst now and my gas mileage when from 20.6 average and now my last tank i averaged 17.5 miles per gallon. I took the truck to two different shops they drove the truck and said they could feel the stumbling but there scanners only went up to 2021 so they could not help me. The truck has no codes showing. So i ordered a new Autel mk900bt scanner and it will show some things but not all so called Autel and they informed me that Ford has not sent out a update for 2023 or 2024 fords at this time. But i was still able to show misfires and it shows anywhere from 8 misfires to 20 misfires in the first 8 minutes of driving. Does anyone have a clue what's going on.

I have two newer f150s, a 22 and 21. Both 3.5 ecoboosts. The 21 has never had a problem other than the wiper recall and some software updates. The 22 with the B&O stereo was a complete nightmare after it updated over the air in April. Multiple trips to dealer, they replace the APIM finally and still had issues with the stereo cutting out and a computer glitch sound shrieking over the speakers. Finally I found on a forum to switch the screen into night mode so the infotainment screen was always blue in the background and my issues went away. Only issues I’ve had so far and the 22 has nearly 50,000 km in the alberta oilpatch 😂

I have had 2 10R80 transmissions. A 2019 Ranger and now a 2021 F-150. They have both been nearly perfect. 29k on the Ranger when I traded and 38k on the 150. I did buy them both new and I drive my stuff pretty easy, especially during "break in". The interesting thing to me is the 10 spd is basically a Ford transmission that GM received in their joint venture. (In return Ford received the 9 speed transaxle that they turned into an 8 speed) I have read that the "GM version" 10spd is way less finicky and shifts smoother. Which is kind of embarrassing for Ford that GM can better program a transmission Ford designed and engineered. II wonder if this holds true on the 9 speed as well? Anyhow, thanks for the video. Ford's build quality is near the bottom. Ironically the workers were rewarded for doing shoddy work...... My next truck won't be UAW built until they prove they can improve build quality.

Transmission issue with hard shift has been a problem since Ford introduced the 10R80 transmission. I had a 2019 with that problem that I gave up on after my dealer tried to fix it three times. My 2022 truck shifts great. The sheared bolt issue is for all Max Tow trucks regardless of engine type, my 2022 does have MaxTow so I have the recall pending for when Ford finally determines a solution in 2025.

I have a 2022 Powerboost and it has been great so far. I do have the soft battery issue but by investigating the issue, it is about short drives (2 miles to work) and battery low warnings. It has always started and if I put a trickle charger on it, the battery charges up fine and it is good to go. I have had the 10 speed transmission since my 2017 model and had no issues overall. There was a hard shift at 3rd gear in that truck but a reprogram fixed it. I do have the max tow package and got the recall on it about the bolt. No news on that one. The differential issue your have shared have a lot to do with the owner in my opinion. You cannot turn the wheel on a locker at all so he should not be using it for his purpose if he has to turn. I did research on the GM/Honda 8/6/4 cylinder and many engines start having issues around 60K- as stated by their own documents. There was a publication where a GM representative said that the 4/6/8 does start using more oil naturally as teh seals give way on such high mileage vehicles. When asked he said that 60,000 would be considered high mileage. Honda was aware of the increased oil use as part of the technology. So, they know this and apparently believe that most will move on to another vehicle before they get around 60K plus in mileage.

People who use trucks for what they were initially designed for "WORK", want reliability and low maintenance. Most of the auto industry is producing vehicles that are pretty much the opposite. Regardless of whether you're a turbo fan boy that wants a turbo on every ICE or not. These vehicles should be designed so the everyday person can work on them if needed and without requiring expensive machines and proprietary tools which are usually only found at one of the dealers or other specialty repair shops.

The transmission “10 speed” needed overhauled because when it was cold “winter” when shifting from 1 to 2 the back tires would lock up because it was in 2 gears at the same time. No issues with the engine/ turbos. I shut off the engine shutdown at stops so it doesn’t spool the turbos from 0-100,000 rpm instantly. I also will only run full synthetic oil to help with coking the oil in the turbos. I am concerned about the transmission long term as I had my last pickup 17 years

I recently sold my 2022 PowerBoost XLT I had for just shy of 2 years. It was an OK truck overall but the hybrid transmission was pretty clunky going from electric to hybrid drive. That, and a lot of error messages with the transfer case when shifting into 4 High. It would correct itself after restarting but it always had me wondering if it was going to fail. What was really mind blowing from a quality standpoint was a failed state safety inspection because a disconnected wiring harness from the factory caused the license plate light to not illuminate. It made me wonder how I got my first inspection sticker…

Mechanically it’s been good though from the engine to the 4W drive system. @switchbackfable
@switchbackfable 9 ай бұрын
@@CJColvin it would be weird if the mustang gt didn’t have the 5.0 in it lol. The 2.7 and 3.5 are torque oriented engines more suited for trucks vs the mustang gt which goes with the 5.0 like peanut butter and chocolate. The 2.3 eco boost is suited for more fuel economy focused mustang owners and ford prob sells more mustangs with the 5.0 in it so wouldn’t make sense business wise to offer a different base engine in the mustang gt.

Tim! You keep your turbocharged trucks for a few weeks, maybe 6 months, and then you dump them. You should buy one truck and drive it everyday for 10 years. Then you can tell us about the glorious turbocharger and the overworked undersized motors and how they've overcome physics.

I have 120k on my 2016 2.7 eco boost F150. Seems like a good little engine. Pulled my dual axle enclosed trailer 200 miles without issue. Crap mileage, but no issues.

They’re designed from the ground up for turbos. Not simply adding turbos. Maintenance is the key.

@@kb9oak749 I don't know what I'm missing here in this equation but like you, most of our Ecoboosts see hard time. If I'm going to start worrying about turbos in our Cats, are we supposed to go back to steam trucks and shovels? What is this fixation people on KZbin have with turbos?

I've had nothing but problems with my F150 2022 Hybrid. Horror story of events, 9x now to dealership, in touch with corporate Ford and all sorts of interdepartmental contacts. Avoid this car if you can, Bluecruise and the tech package is a ABSOLUTE NO.

I purchased a new 2023 F-150 Lariat 4x4 Sport last month. I have never been more disappointed in a new vehicle as I am with this F-150. I absolutely hate this truck! It’s a great looking truck, but it rides and drives horrible! This is the most uncomfortable vehicle I have ever owned. It also has the worst, most uncomfortable seats as well. I have a one hour commute to work every day, and I dread having to make that drive because of this truck. I previously owned a 2014 F-150 XLT 4x4 with the 5.0, and it drove and rode well. I don’t know what happened to Ford, but this is the last one I will ever buy. It’s getting traded next week.
