Supply & demand and price spikes due to the pandemic are one thing. Opportunistic price gouging and gentrification is another issue entirely. Really curious to hear your thoughts on that so yes please make a video!

Every plant is so far out of my budget right now. I can’t resist anything variegated. My wishlist just grew after watching this video.

Common houseplants is the way to go!! Its almost a game I make with myself: find the best looking or random variagation on a common houseplant. Prices are ridiculous. I got my cebu blue at walmart for under 20 and I saw the same size pot auctioning on Steve's leaves for over 100. Like, what?!?

Just wanted to say that I love the way you’re able to relate to needing to sell your plants. A lot of the time I feel like the people talking about rare plants have never had that kind of hardship, or at least act as if they haven’t, and I really appreciate you being open about the struggle that’s sooooooo common 💚💚 ily also your eyebrows are lookin amazing

I don't have the money for any of my wishlist plants either lol Everything is just way too expensive now to buy online. Luckily in Scotland plants in shops are still cheap, but of course there's less chance of finding more uncommon plants in shops. I wish you luck in finding all your wishlist plants!

Same here north east UK, but how many dracena & succulents can you buy before it gets boring? Haha you have Morrison's in Scotland? I've found lots of good buys this year Banana plant musa Tropicana 30cm £3 - it's 3ft 8weeks later! 5ft yukka2 trunk £20 , alocasia zebrina 120cm (2 bulb pot) £12!!! Oh and Sainsbury's I just got a 50cm red imperial philodendron for £5 was £12 full price😮 Definitely worth checking out the supermarkets believe it or not 😁
@GoblinPrincessKyo4 жыл бұрын
@@m3ount973 Yeah i've found a couple of beauties particularly in marks & spencers, they seem to get in some less common houseplants these days. My most recent supermarket find was a giant Magic Star for only a few quid in a beautiful ceramic pot and a big Staghorn fern that was only 3 quid again in a lovely ceramic pot with wooden legs, picked up a matching pot with a crinkle birdnest fern too so they look nice together. Supermarkets are defo getting better these days with not just having the usual pothos, tineke rubber trees by the hundreds, alocasia pollys, snake plants and monsteras lol

i bought a florida ghost at an already UNREAL PRICE and the guy casually was like “oh btw one of the leaves has slight variegation but whatever” and seriously downplayed it so when it arrived and like four had creamy sections and light green patches i was like 👀 and then the newest leaf hardened and there’s moooore creaminess and im so excitedddd

Love your look today; great vibe for you! I'm glad for a huge variety of plants and I would be sad if we took away everything over say $50. What kind of variety would be left? It's good for the hobby to have a big, fat, juicy selection. It's sad if you have a $300 taste if you have a $30 wallet. But then when you are able to obtain those plants, they are all the more special. There are plenty of wonderful $10 plants to satisfy your plant needs. But why limit our hobby? [I'm not directing this at you, Ashley! I'm responding to some of the comments left here]

look at mercari for the variegated philo hedecareum! I got one for 25$ from a good seller :) she lists pretty frequently, but she'll also make one for you if you ask- shes pretty much the only one selling those on there so if you look it up you'll find em pretty easy.

I grow as many plants from seeds as possible to save $ but I'm feeling that "end of the growing season" urgency to buy established plants asap. P.S. It would be neat to do a video on plants with silver/reflective leaves, or those with pink foliage. I have been daydreaming about those two leaf colors this year thanks to your channel!!
@knitwit28714 жыл бұрын
I have wanted a pink princess for a while but the prices are INSANE so I am just buying a single leaf cutting. Even that is 90$ which is fucking bonkers. I would rather get one on Gabriela's but I am NEVER fast enough.
@m.edwards98494 жыл бұрын
$90 american dollars for one leaf!!!! that is insane!!! i live in australia and while 4 leaf manjula pothos goes for $95, i usually see 8 inch pots of pink princess for about $20-$30 aud ($14-$21 usd)
@knitwit28714 жыл бұрын
@@m.edwards9849 yupp those are the prices right now! It's crazy how plants are different everywhere. Here you could get manjula for a couple bucks but pink princess is hard to find. Its actually just the price, you can find them but the prices are skyrocketing.
@m.edwards98494 жыл бұрын
@@knitwit2871 really sad that a lot of sellers are taking advantage of this situation. i don't blame all of them, they need to make a profit on whatever they paid too, but some of these prices are just extortion.
@knitwit28714 жыл бұрын
@@m.edwards9849 oh I know. Thats what sucks because you dont know how long it will be till these prcies go down. & buying these pp online is next to impossible I have tried multiple times. So now I have to go buy a single leaf & pay i dont fuck it up.

I’ve been looking for a Hoya Heuschkeliana Variegata for at least a whole year. It’s hard because my plant budget for cuttings is $30, and I find cuttings for like $90-$150. I’m too scared to spend alot on a cutting bc I’m broke as heck and might just kill it. I wish you luck finding one!

for big business and big time sellers its probably not a good idea to charge a lot for easily propagated plants even if supply is currently on the low side. for small time sellers or plant collectors who sell sometimes i think its fine for these people to charge whatever they want. you have to be an educated buyer for everything in this world. if you over pay for something thats your fault. if someone is charging a lot for something ask why ( sometimes reasoning is pretty just) or buy from someone else.
