This is just my personal opinion, obviously, but I don’t necessarily think the Frydek (or any Alocasia, really) are “Spider Mite magnet’s.” Stay on top of your preventative maintenance and you should be good! I have close to 20 different Alocasia varieties and have never had Spider Mites. That could change any moment! But one thing I do without fail is - Systemic Granules every 2 months, spray with Neem every 2-3 weeks, spray with insecticidal soap monthly at the very least and I’ve been pest free for the past year. Might be overkill but I’d rather be safe than sorry. So don’t be scared!! You got this ❤

Very enjoyable Plant Wishlist video! Thank you. Wishing you much success in obtaining these plants. It’s always nice to have something to look forward to, right? 🥰. Sometimes the treasure hunt is as much fun as actually finding the treasure! 👌🪴🥰

Now I realize THAT’S why I love your tour videos above all the others! It’s because you STYLE your plants and don’t just have tons of plants all in one space where you can’t even see their individual beauty (in addition to all the great information you give). That’s how I have my plants in my home too. My wishlist plants are Hoya Australis Lisa, Scindapsus Pictus Argerious, Hoya Macrophylia Red or Sunrise, Calathea Orbifolia, Mandarin Spider, Calathea Musaica, and Alocasia Dragonscale, among others. Most will probably remain on the list because of limited space,

Agree with you on styling them versus those crazy cabinets along the walls. I don't make a habit of buying plants unless one of them dies. I love caring for my plants but I'm with you on just having the perfect plant in the right spot for that "wow" expression when I enter a room.....a plant I can be proud of because I grew it from a baby plant. I don't want a jungle look at all!

Gorgeous wish list Drea! I’m not quite sure what is on my list.. although that Doc is gorgeous I must say! My husband brought me a alocasia Jacklyn on my birthday from the teeny tiny town market and my eyes almost popped out of my head! 😂 I couldn’t believe they had it at our local ish super small town market. It’s exquisite! The texture is out of this world! Happy new year to you, your plants and furry friends 💚

I found a small rooted Plowmanii at the last local plant sale in October. It was in sphagnum when I bought it and I nervously put it in soil after about a month. It has spent a couple of months putting out a new leaf, but I just checked on it and it is finally open, huge, and glorious!

Wonderful! I will say mine is definitely developing new roots very quickly in water so I should be able to pot it back up relatively soon💚

She got predatory mites and felt like that was the game changer because the predatory mites were better at finding and hunting down the spider mites than she was! Nick Pileggi isn’t a fan of predatory insects because he says they’ve bitten him so I think I’d have to have a major infestation to try them! 😮
@irairod5160 Жыл бұрын
@@sonyad.5942 That's true, I remember when she got the predatory mites. But I don't have hundreds of plants, a business to sell them, or a YT channel talking about them, so as long as the sprays and systemics work in my house, that's what I will use. Those predatory mites are expensive!
@AlohaPlantLife Жыл бұрын
It was just green lacewing larvae that bit him. Predatory mites won’t bite you💚

i have the hardest time with aolcasia. I propigated two of mine using your corm method and they are the only two still alive, both mother plants have died. they seem to be so sensitive :(
@AlohaPlantLife Жыл бұрын
They certainly can be. In particular, they don’t like any kind of significant shift in temperature, light, etc. It can throw them into dormancy pretty easily.

You "I need to get plants knowing where I'll put them" Me "plants are like jello, always room for more!" I tend to buy plants smaller, 4 inch pot and then let it grow out, totally fine but some plants get real big real fast and the size it says on Google was way off or was way off for speed. Like my monstera I knew COULD get huge eventually, totally expected, but it also says on most websites even now, that it takes 3 years to get to double fenestrations... Mine will be 2 from 2 baby leaves in April and it has had secondary fenestrations since July. It's biggest leaf is like 18" by 18" it's huge, again totally fine and beautiful but with it being so much younger than I had expected, I didn't have the opportunity to really budget for the big pot it would need for the roots and it went from 4 inches to 10 inches fast so the soil cost, the extra fertilizer etc was all a small shock. The plant drinks like over a liter of water at least once a week and after removing the fert burned leaves it's only got like 8 leaves 🤷🏼♀️ oh and when I first got it it could sit anywhere and use a much smaller grow light where for the past year it's been in its giant pot under a 36 watt grow light in a wall sconce from Sansi... I love that plant, I've tossed two babies in the pot as well BC it looks silly on the bottom... But man I trusted the online experts that it was slow to be an adult! Similar story, I got a zebrina alocasia. I read it can get tall esp if it isn't getting enough light. It was still in its four inch pot and it was taller than the lamp! I moved it to a 6 inch pot and put it on the floor last winter and this winter it's now 3 different plants in the pot and a baby just popped up and I'm not sure if it's another corm or if it's attached. So thirsty pot heavy drinker. It's back next to my tv on the stand as the foliage can see the window 🤣 but it's another one where you kinda think if you buy a plant at less than a foot tall you don't expect it to go into super thrive mode esp when you're not providing perfect conditions! Maybe that's why I'm at the whole "I'll just make room" spot BC I've had plants I bought big that the new growth shrunk and very small plants that have turned massive. Imma just accept I live in the jungle I guess 🤣🤷🏼♀️ It is wild though BC my humidity has been 30-70 I've got ONE North facing window that gets next to no light so 3 of my like 100 get grow lights and the rest get sansi 250 watt equivalent normal lights. My temp can be 62-72 in the same day. Of course I've had random casualties but they seemed to die very quickly after purchase so I feel that it was shock or something before they got to me in those cases... Other cases I know it's just dormant and not dead.

I, also like to style my plants at home. I’m not judging, but I don’t see the point of having a bunch of plants crowded into a cabinet. It’s just not my thing.
