I'm in the Nikon Z ecosystem. I do mostly landscapes and some wildlife. My essential lenses are Nikon Z 14-24 mm f/2.8 S, 24-120 mm f/4 S, and 70-200 mm f/2.8 S. When I am certain that I will mainly shoot wildlife, I swap the 70-200 mm to 400 mm f/4.5 S lens.

I shoot Micro Four Thirds, specifically on an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II. I have the Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 PRO and Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 PRO. With the 2X crop factor, they're equivalent to 24-80 and 80-300mm. Plus, I have 1.4x and 2X teleconverters for the 40-150mm, meaning I can go all the way to a 600mm equivalent. It's great for wildlife, although there are even better lenses in the Olympus ecosystem for wildlife, like the 100-400mm f5-6.3 and 150-400mm f4.5 zooms, and the 300mm f4 prime. I'm saving my pennies to get that 300mm f4. I also use the Sigma 18-35 and 50-100mm Canon EF lenses with a Viltrox 0.71x speedbooster as well as a couple of Micro Four Thirds prime lenses (Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4 Summilux and Olympus 45mm f1.8), but I don't use the Sigmas or the prime lenses all that often since they are less versatile than my Olympus f2.8 zooms.

I started serious photography a little over a year ago. Which means that I’m still buying unnecessary lenses and focal lengths, while still sorting out the optimal camera bag (including the bag) set up. It’s kind of frustrating because it’s expensive, but it’s also fun understanding your gear and how to finally become creative with it.

My big three lenses are the Canon 70-200mm f2.8, the Canon 50mm f1.2, and the Canon 24-70mm 2.8. My workhorse lens is the Canon 70-200mm f2.8. I use this lens for most of my camera work. It is dark here in Massachusetts in the winter. So, I use the Canon 50mm f1.2 for all of my low-light situations. Love this lens. I also love its little brother the 50mm f1.8 because of the smaller size, but we have a 50% chance of rain here, in Massachusetts, every day. So, I need the weatherproofing that the 50mm f1.2 provides. Finally, I use the Canon 24-70mm f2.8. It is a good lens, but for the work I do, I only get to use it 20% of the time.

Love from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada! We have been watching your videos on our TV and just wanted to say thanks for sharing your gear. You have perfect gear, because this is your profession. We watch your videos to get inspiration for traveling, getting travels and photography tips, and doing amateur photography. Among our family of 5, we have Pentax KP, K-5 iis, Canon RP, Sony A6700, and Nikon Z 6 ii. Each of us is obsessed with their preferred system. Most used by husband and our 3 children are Pentax cameras and 15mm, 21 mm, 35 mm, 55-300 mm PLM, and 420 mm. I use Sony 6700 with kit lenses and also Nikon kit lenses with Z-6 ii. Looking forward to watching more and more travel and photography tips for amateurs though.

I typically have the Sony 16-35 gmii on most of the time, and a Tamron 35-150mm in my bag. If I know there's going to be wildlife, then I'll also carry my Sony 200-600mm as well. I usually carry my camera on my shoulder strap with a peak design clip when hiking, but there are times where I miss shots because I don't have a longer lens on, so have been debating about getting a second body but not quite sure how to carry that comfortably and easy to access

I think I've found my essential set up (for now!), shooting a Fuji X-S10 with the XF 16-80 f4, Canon FD 80-200 f4 L, and TTArtisan 27 f2.8 for my daily carry. Very budget lol but it works for what I like to do. And a similar focal range to you but f4. There is just something about the new G Masters tho, really beautiful lenses!

I'm with you. The 24-70 GM II and 70-200 GM II are my main lenses. Each is on an A7RV body. But, that will probably change to an A7CR and A7CII for travel. For years I carried the 16-35 GM. But, I rarely shoot wider than 24mm. If I take anything wider than 24mm or longer than 200mm, it will be because I anticipate using it for that trip.
@PhotoTrekr
@PhotoTrekr Ай бұрын
In an effort to reduce the size and weight of my travel kit, this year I'll be using an A7CR and A7CII with a 16-35 PZ and 70-200 f4 G lens. I'll fill the gap with either a 50mm 1.4 GM , 24-50mm G, or 50mm 2.5 G lens. I'm leaning toward the 50 GM.

I run only two lenses. My primary is the Tamron 35 to 150 mm 2-2.8 and I pair that with the Tamron 17 to 28 mm 2.8. It doesn’t quite have the reach of the 70 to 200 mm but for only two lenses, it covers just about everything I shoot. If I do bring a third lens, it’s the sigma 150 to 600 mm telephoto.

I shoot with Fuji xh2 and recently went to Tromso and Lofoton. I took 3 lenses, 10 24, 16 55, and 70 300 which would be similar to your choice on a Sony set up. Also added my dji mini2 and all fitted easily in backpack under 7kgs for airline travel. I was very pleased with my lens selection and will be travelling to Scotland soon with the same set up with the exception my drone will be updated to mini 4 pro. Love your work Allison.

Add the 90mm with those zooms and you will be shocked. Love it up in Lofoten. Just got back from Scotland. There is something too sweet about the 90. I take the DJI Mavic Air 2s as well. You're covered nicely, but if it were me I'd drop the 70-300 for the 90. I shoot with the X-H2s and the X-T5. Have fun travels bro!

Currently living in China most of my photography is travel & street (inc. portraits) and city / landscapes (in Asia and Europe when back home). I've used Sony since the A7r+A7 and my favourite lenses on the A7r5 are the 16-35/4 PZ (which I would advise for most travel togs over the f2.8 GM, for the large weight & size saving whilst giving up nothing in IQ but also for the PZ for video) and the vastly underrated Samyang lenses esp. the 85/1.4 but also the 'Tiny' series for travel, Samyang 75/1.8 + 45/1.8 and the designed for astro 24/1.8. My second system is Olympus and specifically the OM1 (now v2) for it's incredible 8.5 stops IBIS and WR (rated to IP53), the kit is great for travel (and inclement weather) and long reach (safaris) whilst keeping the size and weight down (as a kit) and utilises the Sony backlit quad stacked M43 sensor. The PRO Oly lenses are incredible, super sharp, super light and totally WR (and love the MF clutch for instant MF focusing). Add in some of the miniscule f1.8 primes and the tiny Laowa UWA lenses (Love the 6mm f2, FF effective 12mm) and that's a great travel kit.

To have every focal length from 16 to 200 is great. I have gone for f4 options. So I go out with a 20-70 f4 G, a 70-200 f4 Gii macro and a Sigma 17 when 20 is not wide enough. When I am photographing birds I take my 100-400 GM and a 1,4x TC (and no other lenses).😂

I carry close to the same setup when I’m traveling with the exception of the 24-70. O do a lot of indoor and night photography so I swapped the 24-70 for a 50mm 1.2 (canon shooter). I stressed about having a big gap in focal lengths but in practice, didn’t miss it. But I gained a lens that let me capture cleaner, more dramatic images in challenging light situations that the other photographers with me could not capture, even at F2.8.
@allisonanderson

That's an interesting swap! It makes sense though if you still have the ultrawide and telephoto, then you're getting something really unique in the middle. And 50mm 1.2 is so dreamy.

Great video and great photos. I have almost the same trio. But replaced the 16-35mm f2.8 with the Sony FE 12-24mm f2.8 GM. Yes, it's bigger and heavier, but I love the ability to go crazy wide with 12mm. This lens also gives me lovely sun stars, maybe the best in the world :-) Also, 24mm is fine at the other end, because I also have the 24-70mm f2.8 GM II. When I switched to mirrorless (Nikon Z), I opted for the "unholy trinity": • F 16-35/4** • Z 35-150/2-2.8^^ • Z 100-400/4.5-5.6 + 1.4xTC This 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯'𝘵 include "specialized" lenses, like my primes or macro lenses. But those 3 see me thru a variety of what I shoot regularly. **I'm really hoping Nikon will drop a Z 16-35/2.8 bc that's my dream wide-angle zoom (+ UW set-up). Sony has theirs, as you've showcased & Canon RF has their 15-35/2.8...Nikon needs to get on it! I'm 🤏🏽 to just getting the Sony Mii version & adapt it using Megadap ETZ Pro. ^^This lens & its focal range is incredibly versatile & easily replaces 24-70 + 70-200 for me.

I mostly do bird photography, which requires a longer focal range than the ones in this video. You can do great wildlife photography on the 70-200, of course, but only when you are shooting larger animals; when you are photographing small birds -- especially birds smaller than a human hand -- then you need at least 400 mm and ideally 600 mm. Sony's 200-600 is great (and is the lens I use), but bird photographers shooting on full-frame cameras often find themselves having to complement it with teleconverters. Sony would do well to expand their supertelephoto options, as both Nikon and Canon are now making 800 mm lenses.

But of course you're using GM lens to the tune of $7,500 dollars not including the body. How about what us regular folks can afford. Like the A7III with 24-105G f/4 and 70-300G f/4. I know you need to promote the newest but really... and of course let the bashing begin....
