Windsor and newton pro markers are great too. One thing I’ve found is that some fineliners blend into the colours. Copic and Micron don’t

I think your are totally right about it´s all about the artist and not the tools. I normally use Staedtler pencils, Pilot rollerballs, Artline fineliners and Chartpak markers

@@DavidDrazil David, I'm a beginner in pretty much all art, 'met' you via the Sketchbook Revival workshops. You are a FABULOUS teacher! I had planned to skip that session and decided to watch - learned a bunch! 'Architectural' is not my thing at the moment but I am venturing into some drawing so I want to make variable width lines with one waterproof tool! Just got a brush tip marker type pen. I'm interested in 'mark making' at the moment, so playing with ink. I downloaded a couple of your freebies: your materials are sooo didactic and attractive! Will also be trying your Photoshop brushes :-) .

Do you have a tutorial or course for watercolor artists? I would like to get better at painting flowers from different perspectives and I would appreciate learning perspectives from that angle to use in my artwork. A beginner course in perspective that can be implied for plants, flowers, etc. not just building, would be great. What do you recommend?
@DavidDrazil3 жыл бұрын
@@tuyetcong-ton-nu1388 I cover the topic of perspective quite extensively in my two Sketch Like an Architect books and the first course (links are in the description). It's not targeted at watercolour artists per se, but the material is definitely usable for the linework part of the workflow. On top of that, the first book and course cover drawing architectural vegetation (trees, shrubs, etc.). Check the links in the description - there's always a video showing the book/course so get an idea whether it's a good fit for you ;)

@@DavidDrazil OK, I will get the first course. My husband will enjoy it too. We both paint watercolor together and he loves to do plants and trees. Thanks for sharing your passion and your style of teaching is very effective. Blessings!

If you haven't tried Blackwing pencils, you're in for a treat! They have a long history with artists, musicians, and novelists you can read about on their website. The matte pencil has a velvety smooth texture and is fun to write and draw with. My husband does amazing architectural renderings and sketching generally using a Blackwing matte. The range of values and detail he can accomplish with this one pencil is incredible. But, you're right, skill and experience have a lot to do with how well your tools perform.

Thanks, Peggy! Haven't heard about Blackwing before - will look into that! ;)

Hi David. I've always sketched, but have never been really happy with the sketching I've done while on holiday. I can't seem to visualize depth and perspective to my own satisfaction, therefore, I'm always reluctant to even try now. Thanks for these videos. With your encouragement I may get over my 'fear of sketching'.

I like the video and the ending! I have a "thing" for tools and I try different kinds/brands. I think that for me, sometimes it's more about how they feel in my hand than the brand itself. In other words, the design of the pen itself has some effect on how comfortable I feel using it: the overall weight, the material, the contour.. then it's the tint or shade. I'm sure you heard not all the "whites" are the same. I feel the same with the black pens. Not all of them are true blacks and that's ok with me. I like Staedler and Micron but lately, I've been using Prismacolor pens and markers. I'll try Arteza next!

Thank you, Claudia! That's a great point - it shows that you've tried many different tools! I'll look into Prismacolor, thanks!
