Hey Kue! When you crossed over to Windsor Canada, it brought tears of joy to me. I’ve known that ramp and those roads like the back of my hand! That’s the gateway to the US for me. By the way, there’s some history for you in the area you passed through between Windsor and London. It’s a small town between the 2 cities called North Buxton, Ontario just on the south side of hwy 401. It was the end of the Underground Railroad. In the mid 1800’s, African American slaves (former) escaped to Canada and were given free farmland in the area to start a new life.🌅I have a best friend who rides a Harley Softail Rocker that lives in that town. 👍
@JustGKue Жыл бұрын
Is that where "uncle Tom's cabin" is located? I've briefly heard stories about it
@janisblack2183 Жыл бұрын
@@JustGKue Yes! Josiah Henson is the real man that inspired the story of Uncle Tom’s cabin. It’s about 30 miles straight north of North Buxton in Dresden Ontario. The original cabin is restored and protected by the African Canadian historical heritage and is a museum in DRESDEN Ontario. You can Google his story and Google maps the Joshua Henson Museum in Dresden, Ontario. He died sometime in the 1830’s, point of interest: his funeral procession was over 2 miles long! The biggest in the Chatham-Kent area to this day. You gotta know way back then that know one had a car, maybe a wagon with a horse, but most people walked. So that was a lot of people, he was so revered! On another note North Buxton has an annual homecoming event every labor day weekend and this year is 100th anniversary. There is a museum in that little village and some people dress up in period costumes. There’s live bands and a good time is had by all. About 1500 people show up which is a lot too. When I visit my friend and her family , there are still original descendants living in the community. When we sit in their backyard it borders some original farmland and we get a sense of peace sitting there reflecting with a gentle breeze blowing. Canada is very diversified and neighbourhoods have a mix of people living together. Everybody hangs out together. I had a culture shock when I found out how the US still has “neighborhoods” Point of interest: I live near a town called Shelburne, Ontario. There came a time around the Civil War that slave catchers were coming up to Canada to capture even Freed Men. When these slave catchers came here there was a lot of local sheriff’s appointed by the British government. If travellers were passing through, they were accosted by the local Sheriff. If they were ok then he let them pass. If they were slave catchers, he’d run them off back to the border or lock them up. But these bastard slave catchers started running at night. Sheriffs couldn’t catch them all, so the new safe zone for the Underground Railroad was Shelburne! It’s about 180 miles from North Buxton. Far enough that one of the Sheriffs along the way would catch the ILLEGAL slave catchers. We had one of the original descendants living here up until about 5 yrs ago. Most of the African Canadian settlers became self sufficient as saw mill owners and farmers and members of the community supported them by building log housing, food and clothing for the whole family. They would get together and donate mules, oxen, cattle and horses when they could to get them started. Most of all Canada was the land of freedom and independence for the newcomers. It still is for many newcomers from around the globe.🇨🇦😊

Thank you so very much.. I haven't been able to get out much recently as I know my audience loves the road trios just as much as I like taking them. Your words mean the world to me and give me a boost to keep pushing when I feel lost. Thank you Peace ✌🏼
