Harris I'd love to hear your input on contracts for sponsors. I've been approached by a few outside of the US and I always get psyched out wondering if they're secure and legit. Always scares me as well with the idea of giving my social security number for tax purposes. How do you vet out sponsors to know they're 100% legit? What information is typically given when you do work with them? Guidance on this would be greatly appreciated I'm sure by soooooo many of us, myself included. Thank you so much for the great content as always my friend, this video is spectacular!

As someone who has done some sponsorships, even long term, with very small numbers i couldn't agree more. Views or suscribers don't matter as much as your real influence over your niche.

as an emerging content creator coming from the twitch DJ/spirituality scene, it's so great to hear you speak on the importance of integrity! so often i see content creators, even ones i love, take sponsors that i know aren't probably the best simply because they are getting paid. while i understand people need to secure the bag, i think maintaining integrity over short term profits creates more trust with yourself, your viewers, and allows for greater stability/security in the longterm because you are building on a foundation of truth. i definitely think your success is in a large part due to your commitment to authenticity, and i'm grateful to see you using your platform to promote these values and show whats possible when you embody them. if every content creator were to hold themselves to such standards, i think it would improve conditions in the creator economy substantially.

Great advice Harris! I appreciate that you are vulnerable enough to share this information with others. I like that you put the emphasis on being “an influencer” instead of a a convincing voice, and say no to things that you personally don’t think will make a positive impact on people rather than just chasing the paycheck from any sponsor who offers one.

Great content, as always. This one, in particular, is so applicable beyond the content creator community. This is simply, straight forward advise for any small business or sole proprietor. I recently stepped away from corporate work and into consulting and business management and I've found that I get so much more work from relationships and references that from cold calling. This was a re-invigorating and inspiring reminder for me for what's important and where to focus my energy. Thanks again.

111% Spot On Brother. While yes, as a 3D Animator/Graphic Designer, charging what you're worth and not being taken advantage of are HUGE. BUT - I would be hard pressed to stop a meet and greet or NOT go above and beyond because that mentality is in my blood. I believe that many are lacking in the gratitude department who say do what you're paid to do and go home. It's a bitter way to view these things. Love It, thank you so much for speaking on this!

This was... Wow. I did not expect to see a video where all parts hit me this good. It is nice to see that I am on the right track when it comes to this particular topic. And yes, "engaging with the community you love" is my thinking way as well when it comes to this. I'd 100% do what Harris did in Paris. Let me give you an example: I was a cosplayer about 10~15 years ago. No big name or one with that many followers, but I was one who was quite involved in the whole community. I went to A LOT of conventions in a year. At one point, I had about 250 travel days in a year. At first, it was just a hobby, but I then got invites (as a judge/panel speaker/host) to small and bigger cons that I went to. What I noticed was that A LOT of those big stars/guests (cosplayer, artists, actors etc.), did not engage that much with the community, except only during their panels/meet n greets. They stuck to their schedule and then they escaped the con and/or went to stay in their booth and/or explore the city. For me, however, it was the exact opposite. I engaged. A lot. Whenever I had a panel/meet n greet/something, I actually ALWAYS went well past the scheduled time. And while others preferred to sit and relax, I was pretty much all over the place. I just loved engaging with the community that much. Not just in terms of networking, but also with people who just wanted photos or to just have a chat. Because that is what I did: I had A LOT of FUN TIME doing that, because I loved the community that much. What did that give me in return? Well, a lot more than I thought it would, actually. Not only did I get more convention invitations, but also the possibility to travel, see new places and meet even more communities and people that made my journeys memorable. It also gave me the possibility to build bridges between events and countries. Yep, it sure was well worth the whole totality of what I got in return. That's why the last 3 pointers Harris talks about struck me so good and I couldn't help but to agree with those pointers 100%, word for word! Dedication and effort towards something you love doing will definitely help you achieve your goals + it will benefit you in future events as well. That's why I believe in that IF you'll ever be so fortunate to get a paid trip by a sponsor, respect, honour and appreciate that possibility by making the extra effort by doing what Harris did; be all over the place, engage with the whole community, explore and talk. Thank you for great views on this, Harris, and another great video. :)

Integrity... one reason you’re one of my favorite creators. I also second that good brands will look for creators that have influence in a niche around there service or product. Meaning some brands may hire a creator that sees high engagement on product A with 50,000 subscribers versus a creator with 500,000 subscribers that sees engagement on the general industry of that niche/product. And Harris is proof college isn’t a waste if you implement your learnings wisely. Thanks for constantly delivering amazing content, brother!

I honestly 100% agree with you on this. One of the other rules that .. eventually I'll adhere to .. do your homework on the brand before you take a sponsorship. Some brands will shell out insane amounts to get big creators to so they love the product - but if you look at real customer reviews the product stinks. Don't cheapen yourself for an easy pay. Don't .. Raid Shadow Legend .. your channel. Accept a sponsor you can feel confident in, and excited to share with your audience. As always, Harris .. I appreciate your down to earth advice and transparency. Even if your agent hates it when you're THAT transparent ;)

All this is further complicated by the extreme amount of Payola going on in the content creation space these days. There are so many companies asking creators to "review" their product, but only if the review is positive and the company is allowed to dictate what the reviewer does and doesn't say.

Integrity, without it, nothing works. Well shared Harris. One point as well on the emailing 100s of companies, chances are you haven't really looked at the ones that make sense to partner with. The chances that all 100 or more of those companies have a product or products that you truly believe in the value of, while also being relevant to your audience, is very slim. It lacks integrity.
