That's a great idea; tracking the bass first and using the fine tempo knob to keep the drums in step with the tremolo. I love recording drum machine on top of something else - you get a much more playful drum part that way, or I do anyway.

it's fun to change up your regular sequence of recording

My Yamaha RX8 has two assignable individual outs as well as a pair of stereo outputs as well, Very useful feature to have.

let the routing madness begin 😈

@@MadeOnTape My default is mono drums out of the left/mono jack (because I prefer mono drums) and snare and kick out of individual outs 1 and 2
@MadeOnTape3 жыл бұрын
that’s a good flexible set up!

That's a great drum machine. I recently picked up the TR-6s and immediately wished I went for this one. 😭
@MadeOnTape3 жыл бұрын
the tr-6s looks compact! that’s cool!

I like running my guitar through the assignable in’s and having the drum track running empty, then using the scatter feature on just the guitar, as like an fx processor, chopped and screwed style.
@MadeOnTape2 жыл бұрын
omg i am going to try this, probably make a video, and credit you for the idea! thank you for sharing can't wait to try it out!
@thomasjacques28222 жыл бұрын
Wow I’m honored, another fun thing I like to do is run a midi encoded signal on an empty track and bounce the entire mix through the synced tr8 on the fx bus.. use the side chain compression on everything but the kick and snare and then throw in a little scatter here and there. But I have an 8 track Yamaha mtx8 so I’ve got a track to spare for the midi tape sync.

I use two Korg volcas.One beats for bass kick and a Korg sampler for snare(s)&accents.
@MadeOnTape2 жыл бұрын
those volcas are cool!

Chris “Daddy” Dave will tell you the same thing as Questlove: they started playing like that to emulate the way Dilla programmed his drums on the MPC3000 (also the way he moved things around in pro tools). Now it’s part of the way musicians play around the world, and machines have built in features to let you do that. So thank Dilla. R.I.P Jay Dee.

100% I don't think the "general public" knows how big an impact Dilla has on their favorite music. R.I.P.
@79Glitch2 жыл бұрын
@@MadeOnTape Yeah. I would even say musicians don’t know the impact J Dilla had on the music they love. I hear people throw that name out there like a verb/adjective to describe things that don’t necessarily apply e.g., lo fi music. FYI, there’s a good book that just came out called Dilla Time-check it out if you get a chance. Anyway, I had to throw that out there because I noticed your Detroit gear, so I thought it was a bit of sacrilege to not be mentioned in the video. It’s all good though. I’m representing Jackson and Monroe, btw.

The 505 sounds less digital, although, its digital. I guess, because its only 8 bit or something

Just see it as a separation, have equal visitation rights for the Cables and Jacks and hopefully in the future they can sit down and work on the same track. You have my prayers for your Electronic Family breaking bread in the same studio once more. Sometimes the hot Girlfriend comes along and even the strongest dude will be tempted. Perhaps play New Kid in Town by the Eagles as a peace offering and for closure. She is hot though.
