Totally, agree. I've been a lazy natural. I have 4c hair and I must admit that I have not shown up for my hair the way that I should. So I'm now "consciously natural" and on a healthy hair journey because I know that my hair is nowhere near to where it should be. Thank you,.sis ❣️

Sacha Williams keep praying and asking The Lord how to do it. I won’t stop praying and researching videos like this. First I felt The Lord telling me to stop protecting styling with fake hair. I do believe it works for some but for me, it was the putting in some parts of my hair that wasn’t helpful. Plus the take down method was how I lost most of my hair. I wasn’t properly taking out the protecting style so it became a damaging style. Then over the past year I started coloring my greys at the salon. It was a pretty color but it’s still a chemical and I cannot change that. I went so long with being natural then I decided to color my hair...no good! Then I flat ironed! Now I’ll be using ayervedic treatments (natural oils and herbs) plus no more breakage as I wear my own hair and detangle it slowly. Aloe Vera juice (luvnaturals products) daily and wash and deep condition weekly. May The Lord bless our hair journey. I’ll pray for you now.

My hair was on the long side when it was permed. My big chop was going completely bald. I was really slim and felt like a super model. The 4-6 inch fro length was super awkward for me. Then it got fun because I've always enjoyed styling my hair creatively. The transition from puffy to BS/mid-back is weird because I'm so used to architectural styles. When it was permed I did it with pins. And goodness did I love that my puffy stage made it so easy to build a do and with barely any pins. The 'hang' can be bothersome as I get used to it because with my style instincts, I want my hair to stop flopping around😄 But I'm getting used to it. I love the length and will grow it longer so I'm just learning how to get my looks in a different way.

I am 1 year 10 months post big chop. Naa I didn't transition. I big chopped. 😄 Yh I am comfortable with my hair because I wear it 24/7. In the 1st few months it was a bit uncomfortable but now I'm good. For length I don't mind how long my hair will grow but mid-back will be fine. I love volume more and I'm glad I have that.

The thing is it's not that the relaxer can't straighten your hair, but I have come to realize that a lot of hairdressers don't know how to properly relax hair and as such you end up with badly relaxed hair. I'm a natural now, but only became I've always wanted to try being natural and when I moved to the u.s the change in type of water started to damage my hair.

@@Blahgirl283 type 4 hair, especially 4c hair usually works well when its finger de-tangled . you can use a wide tooth comb once in 4-5months. But once you wash, finger detangle, seal in moisture in hair while wet then style it. Sleep with a satin clothe/bonnet/pillow case. Hair turn out fine. Try it for a month

Love it! I did my first big chop in 2012, then relaxed in 2015 and chopped again in 2016. This time around my hair feels much healthier without the steep learning curve that I had to go through the first time. I've learned to recognize my hair's response to products that really help maintain moisture vs things that just make it feel good to the touch temporarily. And as much as I love a good afro puff, I've learned the supreme importance of protective styling (especially overnight)

Your hair journey is inspirational... am Almost 5 years natural in august. I big chop after 1 month of transitioning. I couln't deal with the 2 different textures. I have had set backs like(dealing with alopicia, in my second year...) my hair is uneven because I accidentally cut it Like that. But beside that I love my hair.

I made the best choice by choosing u as one of my favorite influencers. The truth is most Naturals don't want to put in healthy practices and see results in time. They want that 1 magic product to solve it all. 😄 I am glad you've shown how you began and it has been almost 8 YEARS! I understand the low cut back in school. We did that too in Ghana. 😄 I also chose to go back to being Natural because it's the best decision. I am glad I found you because my hair is getting to 2 years post big chop and I also have thick, coarse, voluminous hair which couldn't be processed fully by relaxers. I am learning and I'm happy even after your 7th year you are still learning about your kinks. I am on the right path then. Looks like no one's hair looks like their previous year. Thanks for sharing @westaficanbaby. 🤗🤗➿➿〰️〰️💃🏽💃🏽🔥🔥🔥

I totally agree with doing it because you like it. I went natural back in 2009 my hair got to mid-back length. Than I was getting frustrated and not practicing proper techniques and started getting breakage. So I than loc’d my hair up. My hair has been locked almost three years now, but I miss my loose natural hair. So I’m getting ready to transition back to my loose natural hair! Love your tips! Thank you! 🥰🥰

I just love your channel. Your love for your hair is inspirational and your hair is so beautiful and really hair goals. I am almost 2 years post relaxer and 1 year and 3 months post big chop. My hair length is at a maximum of 8 inches which means my hair grows an average of 1/3 inch per month or 4 inches per year. I trimmed my hair once since my big chop, about 3 months ago. I went natural because I wanted to and I embrace my natural hair and shrinkage because shrinkage gives my medium density hair the appearance of volume. I have never worn wigs, weaves or box braids. I wear my hair mostly in wash and gos and finger coils. We don't have the same hair type (I'm 4A/3C) but I watch your videos all the time for hair care tips as well as your beautiful styles. I will support and will continue to support this channel and look forward to more videos. Sending blessings and love to you from Jamaica.

@westafricanbaby: I love the confidence and joy that you are expressing regarding your natural. Wow your length retention has been great. I switched in 2013 as well but I only have nearly bra strap length. Plus the density of your hair of amazing. I’m sure it makes things take longer but I love the density of your hair. Edit: I noticed you didn’t really cut your hair after the big chop so maybe that one of the impactful differences in our journey. I got scissor happy and would clip my hair like every 3 months lol. I have since stopped that madness. QUESTION: how do you get your root to comply without a brush or comb? My roots tend to be less smooth than the ends so I end up with two different textures if I don’t rake through my roots before braiding/twisting.

Love this video so much ! It reminds me of my hair journey a lot. You have really great personal down to earth videos and I love that. It feels authentic ! I’m a little past mid back length and I’m loving it😍 I feel I’ve mastered my hair and what it likes. But I’m always trying to learn more about the science and make my hair care more easy and simple. I don’t think I want my hair to get to waist length though because it’s very dense I have thick coarse strands so detangling can be work and I finger detangle. My hair is usually in twists though like you and it helps so much😌 but I also love how beautiful long hair looks so I’ll probably keep growing it out.

Thanks for this lovely video. It was enlightening and refreshing. I think I'll stop using combs in my hair altogether for a while and see if that helps me to retain more length. It's been 4 years since I returned to natural and the longest part of my hair is about 14" lol. I have seen evidence that my hair grows at a reasonable rate so I think I am losing much of my growth to poor grooming habits and maybe insufficient moisturizing. You inspire me to do better!!

What do you use in your hair? my daughter has 4C hair and she's been trying to grow it. I personally have locks and I use nothing but oils in my hair such as palm, avocado, hemp, almond, Tamanu, olive, argan and grapeseed in occasion. I've started having her use these as well because previously she would switch products constantly and frequently mess in her hair. I will tell her that's also why it's not growing as because she messes with it too much unlike me I don't mess with my hair that much.I'm going to show her this video so that she can see even with 4C hair your hair can be very long if you take care of it. Motivation 💪

Hey girl. Great video. Inspirational. Do you have any videos about how you finger detangle. I just started finger detangling again randomly lol cause I was lazy and it was easier. I'm thinking of sticking to it. I just need some tips

I just notice a few days that my hair , when I twist it can lay flat more . I didn’t know that it was laying flat because of my he growth, and it’s really growing. I also cut my hair myself and a routine. I try very hard d to stick to . Thank you little sister…
