I remember in high school I loved Mysterious Skin. For some reason I loved all those dark, depressing movies with heavy subject matter (not anymore). I wanted my friend to see it, and while we watched it, she kept trying to talk and ignore the movie and I got frustrated, but it turns out she was a victim of childhood sexual abuse and that's why she was trying to distract herself from the movie and not pay attention to it. I didn't know at the time of course so when I found out I felt like total shit.... but now I know to give trigger warnings like you did.

Definitely a decent top 5. I always struggle with that rating, because what does a movie have to do make me think that I couldn't love it more? My own 5-star list is a lot more basic, with Citizen Kane, Brief Encounter, It's A Wonderful Life, and 2001, just to name a few examples, being on there. "Stop Making Sense" and "Babylon" are the only films that I've given 5 stars that aren't on the Letterboxd top 250.

Wallflower is a such a worthless, dogshit movie. Just wish fulfilment nonsense from someone who was blatantly a loser in school and wishes they could go back, so makes the character blameless of any and all faults, and somehow capable of fighting well, with his silence irresistible to the attractive “outcast” kids, it’s so laughably pathetic
@davianguzman10 ай бұрын
whyre you so full of RAGE LMFAO? i honestly just appreciated it as like the feeling of wishing you could go back. we know our main character isn’t an entirely good person but who is tbh? i will admit the fighting caught me off guard but hey, creative liberty yk. also being a “loser” isn’t a bad thing at all, most “losers” are depressed and can’t do anything because of that. you could argue “mind over matter” or the cringe term “man up” but not everyone is raised the same way. anyways, thanks for your comment i love peoples opinions!
@ryanharvey161010 ай бұрын
Like it could be a dogshit movie if they didn’t add as much backstory and if the characters weren’t so fleshed out. But there is literally no way this movie is bad in any way and it sounds like you hate it because you think it’s unrealistic and for “losers” in highschool.
