I just subscribed a few days ago and I’ve binge watched all your videos. I’m so excited you made a new post. Your channel has single-handedly revived my interest in reading that college absolutely demolished and now I’ve been reading my entire break. I’m currently reading pride and prejudice and the accord of wings and ruins book and I hope to read the de profundis the book you recommended in one of your videos.

This is quite literally my purpose, that makes me so so happy. This even motivates me to read more, especially now that I’ve found myself in a bit of a slump. Thank you for your unintentional encouragement 🥺💌

I really enjoyed how you actually gave quotes from the book! It shows that you plan these videos out and it gives the audience an opportunity to assess whether they want to read said book.

I could listen to you review books forever. My goal for 2025 is to finally read Sula and Beloved and your review of Sula is making me feel excited to pick it up even more. Also, I finished Stoner yesterday and that book made me fall in love with literature all over again!

i don't know what it is but you bring me so much inspiration to further pursue the kind of life i want to live. i discovered you some weeks ago and I binged all your videos so I was so happy to see you have posted ! I love your taste in books they are so fasnicating and not recommending the same old repeated classics that everyone recommends, really boarding my view and helping me discover the books i have been some how seeking (if that makes sense loll). Can't wait for your next video !

What an exceptional list of books ! The only ones I have not read are the Virginia Woolf books. Sula and Stoner made it into my top 10 books of the year.

I was so looking forward to a vlog from you so yay! There are some wonderful interviews with James Baldwin on youtube. One I love is a conversation between him and Nikki Giovanni, whom we sadly lost this past week. Truly heartbreaking. I appreciated The Fire Next Time so much and several others. I have nearly all of his books but haven't read them all yet. I loved Just Kids too and it inspired me to write also. I read it right before getting to see her in person in 2018. And I recently read De Profundis because of your recommendation and it changed the direction of my reading completely and sent me on a non-ficition fest. Thank you for your beautiful and thoughtful vlogs.

You, you are amazing. I have watched that conversation between Baldwin and Giovanni. So thought-provoking and I have to say that I agreed with Giovanni for the majority of it! She was truly a wise and headstrong woman who knew what she valued and what was important and true in life. Please feel free to recommend me some of Baldwin's books that you enjoy! I want to fill my collection with more of him, he is very much one of the greats. And I am so glad that you took the time to read De Profundis because of my review 🥺 my heart is so full, you don't even know. I appreciate you and all your amazing comments/conversation on my channel! Sending you much much love ❤️

I just finished reading “Sula” my first Toni Morrison read and I loved it! Wow her writing kinda just changed everything for me. It’s crazyyy how much depth she’s able to give her characters just within the first paragraph of introducing them. As soon as I finished it, I was ready to reread it. I gave it 5 starts too!
@AnaisLaureСағат бұрын
You perfectly encapsulated how I feel about Toni Morrison as a writer. The depth of her stories and her characters is super-human, godlike even. She is by far one of my favorite writers. I cannot wait to re-read Sula again, it is truly a masterpiece!

Loving your videos!!! They are so beautiful and relaxing and I love hearing you talk about what you've taken away from these books. I would love some of your WOC and/orBlack feminist literature must reads. ❤

genuine question: why do people say "poc and/or black (or whatever other racial minority)" so frequently? every racial minority falls under poc 😭
@AnaisLaure2 сағат бұрын
@@tatyonacid You might have just inspired me to possibly make a video solely about my WOC and Black women literature recommendations! In the literary world, especially on KZbin, these authors are not talked about nearly as much as they should be, in comparison to other big authors. I’m happy to be the one that brings them to light to so many people, it’s truly a blessing. Thank you for this! 🩷
@AnaisLaureСағат бұрын
@@o.o2920 LOVE this question. It’s important to make a clear distinction between “people of color” and Black people. Yes, Black people fit into the classification of POC. However, it’s worth highlighting the oppression, the systems of racism, and the hundreds of years of slavery that African Americans have faced, and continue to, in a country that had its foundation built upon this ongoing oppression. So, this is why we make this distinction-because the systematic oppression of Black people in this country (and even globally regarding colonization in various African countries) is a very intricate and deep struggle that other POC have not experienced and cannot relate to. The Black experience is NOT the POC experience. I personally identify as a Black woman before I will ever identify as a WOC, though I fit into that classification. Failing to make this distinction between Black people and POC contributes to Black erasure and lumps the oppression of Black people in with other POC, consequently minimizing the Black experience, when ours is completely different and nuanced. I hope this helps!

I took an English course: an author seminar all about James Baldwin, and I agree "The Fire Next Time" is just unreal. Literally that book is just full of quotes that just left me speechless. His writing is just once in a lifetime truly; I have such a love of his writing after that course. The humanity throughout all his works are just perfect.
@AnaisLaureСағат бұрын
I would LOVE to take a seminar like that. I completely agree with everything you've said. He often spoke about the apathy in this country, so yes, his humanity was a clear foundation of all his works. He was undoubtedly one of the greatest writers of all time.
