Congrats on getting into your dream university! This video is wonderful, I see so many videos on how important it is that a parrot has a very strict routine so they aren’t stressed out, but I’ve always felt that sets them up for long term anxiety and issues with change. Variation is key in building confidence, and it also sets them up for a far easier adjustment if anything unfortunate were to happen and the bird needs to be rehomed or given to a rescue.

Exactly this!! I think it's so important to teach and get the bird use to fact that something new happening isn't scary. The danish Facebook group I mentioned, has the opposite idea, and I feel like the birds have no life to live because everything is so "dangerous" and if you take them outside they die and so on. Thank you so much btw!!

I plan on purchasing a pionus at some point, so these videos are exactly what I’m looking for. There isn’t too much content on YT for Pionus as you have mentioned, so I appreciate the new videos…thanks!

When I heard the vacuum cleaner, I said "waterfall"! Do you think your Pionus relates the sound and water together as a waterfall? Many blessings...🌻🌻🌻

We’ve had our Blue Headed boy just over a week and he’s settled in well. Very cuddly, very playful, but in the last two days he’s started begging repeatedly even after he’s been fed. He’s out free roaming most of the day and interacts with everyone quite happily. Any tips on how to manage the repetitive begging? (He’s still being hand fed as just under two months old) Love your content you’ve been so helpful for us :)
@stellaandcharlie8 ай бұрын
That's so cute! I think it's just natural for them to keep begging despite being full especially at that age still being very young and hand fed. In this case I would just give it time, they do grow out of it, even tho Charlie will still do it if she is very desperate for a treat :)

I've been doing all kinds of research on them and I have absolutely falling in love with them. What do you recommend on what would be a good way to get one getting one.

Do you have concerns about birds of prey where you are? I am in an area with hawks, crows and a huge eagle. Also, has your pionus stopped growing? I have a male blueheaded pionus that seems quite a bit smaller than your female. He hatched five months ago.
@stellaandcharlie11 ай бұрын
I don't really have concerns, where I live you won't find any birds of prey near the cities and our largest bird is the falcon (who usually would go for smaller birds than Charlie). However I still think about it and would avoid the country where they are, just to be safe :) I believe they have fully matured at around 2 years of age, so while Charlie has stopped growing, yours might not have :D

Would you recommend a Pionus as a first bird?
@stellaandcharlie Жыл бұрын
A "fist bird" can be any bird in my opinion, as long as you have done all the research and have the space and funds to take care of the bird you really want - It's always good to have experience of course, but birds live for a long time, so you have plenty of time to get to know your bird and if the research is done it can go extremely wrong. That said, Pionus don't require as much attention as a macaw not to mention as much space and their somewhat easy temper, so in that regard I would say they are a good pick for a "easier bird". Hope that answered the question :))

Hi Stella! What carrier do you have or recommend ?
@stellaandcharlie Жыл бұрын
Hi Paulo! I will actually soon be making a video on carriers, since I recently got a new one that I am extremely happy with, which is the Bird tricks Track Pack - Though a bit pricy I think it is worth the money as it also comes with replaceable protecion pannels, so that when the bird chews the backpack you wont have to invest in a new one, but can instead order new pannels :) Definitely give it a look, but I plan on making a video in the near future about carriers.

how long do you leave your bird when off to work
@stellaandcharlie2 жыл бұрын
When I worked, it was for about 8-9 hours, which is a long time and I wouldn't recommend leaving for more than that, and then when you get home it's 100% bird time. Now that I study, I have way more time and is only away for 4-5 hours, and most of that time is in the early morning, so she doesn't seem to mind at all.
@1lifeexo2932 жыл бұрын
@@stellaandcharlie wow well I also work full time and work 7:30 am to 4pm so essentially 8 hours. I try and come on my lunch and give her attention. is having a pet bird for stay-at-home people essentially you would say?
@stellaandcharlie2 жыл бұрын
@@1lifeexo293 Depends on what your goal with the bird is. I love spending every moment with Charlie, and as I mentioned I take her with me whenever I go out. If you are someone who works 8 hours and also do lots beside that where your bird can't come, then no, I don't think a bird is for you. On the other hand, if you work 8-9 hours and then interact with your bird and stimulates it when you are home (or at breaks, as you do), then you can definitely make it work.
@1lifeexo2932 жыл бұрын
@@stellaandcharlie thank you for that and your video sure helped a lot! I just came back from my one-hour break where i spend time with her feeding her favorite snacks and talking to her & I do think I have my nanday conure where I want her, as far as being calm yet confident and independent. Her cage is big enough and kept with a lot of toys to keep her busy when she knows it's time for me to go.
@1lifeexo2932 жыл бұрын
@@stellaandcharlie All while of course not being on her 24/7 and giving her alone time even when I am home all day. Not a lot of bird videos out there that let bird owners know that it's actually OK to give them their time alone and know that when you want to take them out and spend time with them, it's only when you want .. if that makes sense.

Theres alot of stories of impaction in birds as pets from eating human hair. (Vets and pet owners are reporting/raising awareness to matter) also hair products can be toxic to birds.
