Yes the Kona is a new freedom for us after just having a leaf for the last 18 months and the Zoe before that. Having to choose not to go places because of getting back, however that was our choice because we wanted to drive electric.

Thanks for the video! Between you and Nigel, all us Kona EV wannabees get a frequent video fix. I notice a lot of folks commenting on the similarities between the Leaf and the Kona. The Kona is 164" long, 71" high, and has a 102.4" wheelbase. The Leaf is a full foot longer at 176" long and 106" wheelbase - but the same height and width. That extra few inches of length and wheelbase should lead to a more sedate driving feel in the Leaf (I've never driven one). I'm personally a fan of shorter, nimble cars like the Soul and the Kona. They pack a lot of utility into a short package.

The Kona is a great road trip car you can just get and go without much planning not like when i took my 24kwh leaf 450 miles to Lincoln hours of planning for that. The Kona will make the same trip in a couple of weeks so will be good to compare the data

Ev Life UK. I watched the other video of your journey. I had a Zoe for 4 years but only pubic charged it a handful of times (Don’t think there was a public charger in range the first two years). Look forwards to more videos. I’ve test driven the petrol Kona but I’ve not seen the EV version in the flesh yet. So it’s nice to see positive reviews.

David Davies yeh them early days were hard to find charger mainly 3kw chargers around lol, hopefully in the next few years the charger network will be sorted and no more apps or cards just a contactless debit card needed

I appreciated that you went through all the menus and showed it on the video and what it looked like as you cycled through. I drive Uber over here where I live and I just put a deposit down and ordered my Kona Ultimate. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Unfortunately I will have to wait till may 2020 for my delivery date. And the dealer said Hyundai RARELY ships early :( Ahh well, it just means I'll have a bigger down payment when I take delivery right ? I got the Galactic Grey with Black leather interior. And you're right about the price as well. For a top spec EV to have all those options is actually a good deal, since many of those options like the cooled seats, active headlights, adaptive cruise control, are usually only found on higher end luxury cars. By the way, I also really liked the music you played during the time lapse travel on the highways too man ;) Can you tell me the artist and name of that track as well please ? Thanks again for the great video mate, I look forward to seeing other Kona videos too.

Neil Brandon the charger I have is from when I had my Nissan Leaf 24kwh I installed a 7kw untethered Pod-Point knowing I wouldn’t go back to ice cars and I wanted something that could charge any electric car in the future. I just want to hook up a small camper (teardrop) for the weekend and go somewhere for the weekend. That's why I like it. It's a practical electric car with good looks. Hyundai got it right. I hope the Germans are paying attention. What a shame Hyundai beat them to the punch.

@@EvLifeUK Yeah that's weird - how can an EV with a decent sized motor not be rated for towing. All that low end torque and plenty of power. Just playing it safe with the battery I suspect.

These will be a great used car and they are very future proof with up to 100kw dc charging and the fact the charger is CCS. Suspect ya might be waiting around 4 years for it to get to 15k looking at how well ev's hold there money and the limited supply of the Kona in the first place.

Stereo is great i would say on par with the Bose in our old Leaf Tekna, The galactic grey is a great colour were very happy with the colour. Hope you get your car on time or early ours was pos to be a Jan order but got it 30th Oct

Wow we've made it out ok uk :) around town at the mo i and school run which include about a mile of 30mph road the 4 miles on 50mph im getting around 4.5miles / kwh. I did a 270 mile journey other day all at 55mph-60mph and average 4.2 miles/kwh. Im doing a 450 mile road trip in a few weeks the same journey i made in the leaf early this month. Material and build quality is I feel of higher standard then i had in my leaf. Wind / road noise is around the same as the Leaf.

The kona has traction control as soon as you spin the wheels and the dash lights flash i dull the power to get traction.

That will be the cars first 10k mile service which is a minor these are the Kona service internals. Utility mode lets you use climate and infotainment system but with all the external lights turned off otherwise day light driving lights are always on when the ignition is on.

During winter so far in the Highlands of Scotland i averaging 280 miles per charge and over the christmas period around 250 with a roof box on.

Battery life will be fine battery has 8 years 125000 mile warranty so this should easy cover first 2/3 owners. Although at present there isn't a Leafspy app for the Kona to check battery pack health, I keep looking for one but if anyone knows different please point me in the right direction.

goodchappy sorry to here that it’s a great car but I know what you mean was a stretch for us to buy one but with it being the only car in the family the stretch was worth it. You don’t realise how many times you stop in a 24kwh leaf until you no longer need to. First long road trip on sat that we will have to stop to charge because it’s over the range of the car.

Thanks for the video!You lucky bastards in Great Britain have the subspeedometer setting. For some reason it is not in the German model.May I ask if you can Reset the Drive Info. English manual says it can be done, but I already asked someone in the UK and in the German model it is not possible,

Drive info resets itself if the car is off for a number of hours and it doen't think your just taking a break. I was really pleased to see the car had sub speedo as i'm going to France next year in it.

My 450 mile drive was done in a Leaf 24 kwh with 7 normal stops and 1 zap n dash there is a video on the channel of this journey. I will be doing the same journey in the kona in a few weeks and will record and do a comparison i think one 40 min stop and 1 15min stop would be the quickest way the 2nd stop is mainly so i arrive with a little charge for the next day.

@@EvLifeUK When I saw 450 I was thinking km, which the Kona may be able to do. I did a 475 mile journey (South Wales to Oban) in a 30kWh Leaf. That was about 8 stops and a sleep over. Good luck on your next journey.

Really thorough review of the Kona EV. A little constructive criticism - the video could have been ~5 minutes shorter without the Euro techno music and the miscellaneous (no narrative) driving.

Enjoyed your review. Like others I suspect I would prefer to tow a small utility trailer to carry dirty recycling to the centre. This ability seems to be missing from all but Tesla! Surely the car manufacturers appreciate this but have deliberately ignored this demand.

Couldn't agree more even with all the torque the Kona has it could easily pull a trailer. Although after my Christmas road trips with a roof box on and struggling to get over 3.2miles / kwh I suspect this was more to do with maintaining the range rather then the car not being capable.

wow thats eye watering. we had equity in our leaf so ours was quite managable we use the Scottish energy saving trust ev loan which is 0% for up to 6 years. Our is £440 for 5 years but we'll keep it untill the next big step prob solid state batteries.

Who wants to watch your video.... Prospective electric (Kona) buyers.... and they want to experience the serenity of driving and electric car and you ruin that. Exceptional car BUT I STRONGLY & URGENTLY suggest Hyundai boosts their production BIG TIME. Hyundai needs to put their money where their mouth is & show that they are truelly serious about affordable EV mass production & being a marketleader which they could be I believe. Model 3 base price & the step up models are out & they are a very good alternative. Second half of the year they are coming to the UK. Hyundai should have a real feeling of urgency or will suffer the consequences & miss out... Also producing the cars exclusively with green electricity like Tesla , BMW en VW will do is an extra reason to green / boost their image & convince potential customers

Alert on the Hyundai Kona battery Hello, I clarify that I own a Kona EV Style 64 kWh, and a Tucson 2015 Tecno. When reading the service passport, I am surprised that there was no reference in the warranty of the battery on a fundamental aspect, which is how much useful percentage is being guaranteed from the 485 km of autonomy approved at the passage of 8 years or 200 years 000 kms ?. All manufacturers guarantee 70 percent or more of payload to the passage of between 8 and 11 years. After a month and 4 calls to customer service here in Spain, today 10-12-2018 at 12:00 I have been called by a Hyundai Spain Customer Service lady by phone [phone] which has treated me in a more than border way, for Tell me that Hyundai has nothing to say about the useful life of the battery, that all the information about the warranty of the lithium ion battery was in the service passport and that that was it. That for a test computer is why they are governed for the guarantee. Well, I've been stunned, nor have I told you that I have more than one car. Hyundai did not care about anything. I will denounce them, and I will try to report this to everyone I can, so that I do not pay 40,000 euros for a car of 480 km of autonomy when buying it but that you do not know how much you will have to the second one and so on, without knowing if it will be guaranteed in case of an evident loss of that autonomy. The one that will buy it that requires it in black and white. Thank
