I've always thought camera bags are the way to go. If they are good enough for sensitive camera equipement they'll be just fine for radio stuffs. Cost of the Icom is just hard to swallow yet it's nothing new... the bag for the 706 was just as expensive but I digress. I use a Lowepro bag for my 7300 and never had any issues. Glad to see someone give a good alternative to the Icom bag. On the bright side the rave blue will be easy to see after dark. LOL

I agree with you 100% on using camera bags.. They protect my Nikon SLR without fail so why not a radio? I just don't see the justification of a $175 bag for a radio. Yeah so it has a hole to feed the mic cable through....not worth the $175 price tag. Oh there's a mounting plate to attach an antenna on the outside....again, not worth the $175 price tag. After making a $1300 investment on a radio sometimes that can leave the account a bit thin, so adding a high price for a bag forced me to find a reasonable alternative. I will get over the color eventually and you are right, it makes it easier to find in the dark..lol Thanks for watching and for the comment. 73!

I have an idea for a POTA SOTA for your group. In Oklahoma is the Wichita Mountains, POTA. In that is Mount Scott SOTA. 2464 feet high! There are 34 summits in that park, but Mount Scott has a road up it! You should have fun with any radio you have at 2464 feet! And you can just drive to the top and have fun. Check out W5O/WI-002 in SOTA. Do Not drive this unless the roads are great! If you go off the road, it is a long ways down! This will test your breaks also. I lived near this until I moved to Florida. I loved going there every time I could. Watch out for Buffalo's crossing the road. They are bigger than some cars, and they have the right of way! Do NOT take flash photos of them! Someone got too close to them and did that! He will not do that again! Or anything! Try a Buffalo Burger at some of the local places. 73 W4DES

@@HR4NT The drive up the mountain is great. Make sure the person riding shotgun doesn't scare easy! There are some places from the right side of the car or truck can see down the side. There are some big rocks along the side to help stay on the road. I lived in Lawton OK that wasn't far away. When I could go out and camp. I moved from there in the 70's so things may have changed. But there where like 8, 10, maybe 12 camp sites around an OUT HOUSE! and a hand pump well! There may be places for campers, I didn't have one so didn't check. There are some buildings that they rent out, but I didn't have money for that.

Yeah, that color :) Just need a bunch more stickers lol But, it sure looks like a good (and cost effective) pack.

Yeah aside from the shade of blue, the pack itself is very sturdy and the zippers are easy to operate and responsive without kinking. I am very happy with the purchase and will continue to add stickers...LOL Thanks for the comment and for watching. 73

Backpack looks great - I bought the Icom backpack and regret it. I checked out your link - only problem, Amazon says to ship it to my country (Kenya in Africa) including taxes and duties, will be USD 160.00 plus USD 62.99 for the bag, making it a cost of USD 222.99 !!!!!! I like your bag but won't be paying that. I will wait for my next vacation trip to the USA - probably December, and try to buy one while there, and skip the shipping and customs taxes and duties expenses. Thanks, I have just subscribed to your channel. I look forward to seeing your outdoors ops with the IC-705 - I love my 705

For solar power and charge controllers I use Bioenno. They are a bit pricey but the quality is unmatched. Their charge controller runs about $50 and the 100W solar panel set is $210. They work flawlessly and will last for many years. There are other alternatives if that is too pricey, but to protect your radio investments I highly recommend them. Thanks for watching. 73 Paul!!

I like it. But one suggestion; download the PDF version of the manual to your tablet. Easier to search and one less thing to carry.

I think that is a fantastic idea to have PDF versions rather than paper copies weighting things down...or...I could just read the manuals and actually put forth an effort to memorize them, a bit...LOL. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching..73!!

I just got the email from Calum that the DX Commander Expedition I ordered last week finally shipped out today, but apparently it is not going to be delivered until the 28th. So no Christmas park activation as I was planning. Guess I will have to wait till next spring to test it out.
@HR4NT
@HR4NT 2 жыл бұрын
I am very sorry to hear that. I guess FedEx is bogged down with deliveries because most of the time it is less than 24 hours for overnight delivery. I will hope that it gets to you a lot sooner and that you will be able to activate for Christmas. Best of luck! Let me know if you do get it sooner. Thanks for the comment. 73!

I noticed you have a dust cap on one end of your connectors but not the other, why? I only ask cause I'm in the process of buying dust/water caps for my cables, but never thought about the connectors. Thanks!
@HR4NT
@HR4NT 2 жыл бұрын
I think I simply ran out of cap covers for the other connectors. I bought a 10 pack for my SO-239's on Amazon and used a couple in other places and probably just ran out. I need to find some caps for the BNC down the road. They are not entirely necessary, but I like the added protection to my gear. Thanks for the comment and for watching. 73!!

Question for you, can you disable the touch screen on the 705? I have a blind friend that really likes the radio but a couple of times he was around a 705 or 7300 he instantly did something he didn't want to do because he was feeling for the buttons.
@HR4NT
@HR4NT 2 жыл бұрын
That is a very good question and I do not have a good answer for that. I assume no, but I could be wrong. I know that both the 705 and the 7300 have a voice feature for the vision impaired, beyond that I would have to research that a bit to find a good answer for you. Thanks for the question and for watching. 73!
