Great video, I'm one of your new subscribers from New Zealand. I'm currently studying for my amateur radio certificate, and doiymy ham cram and exam on the weekend of the 14th of February. Keep up the good work.

Not reading through all the comments, but if no one suggested it. Butyl tape under the plate on the exterior around each pass through. Then maybe silicone or rtv around the plate to help with moisture intrusion. Watched a couple of your videos, as I'm thinking of getting into the hobby. Getting casement windows installed, so this wouldn't work for me. Thankfully if I do get into the hobby I have a few coax lines exiting the house from the basement, so that should work to run new lines. Thanks for the videos.

Yes, it is "dumbed" down, nonetheless, the Extra Class should have stayed the Extra Class. Almost all of the math has been eliminated.

If you can disconnect from the outside. Lightning will travel in if you connect from the inside only. I’m a different person when it comes to grounding. I never ground inside simply because a three prong cord is grounded in your home. I ground my antenna and my window pass through to ground rods that’s it never an issue for 30 yrs. I worked at a company called Raycap for several years we make arresters for cellphones towers. No 30 dollar mfj or other will do anything for a direct strike. Maybe help in a close strike but I’d unplug before I trusted it. Ground the antenna and unplug.

I use power poles on all my radio gear and it’s all hooked up to the west mountain fused rigrunner and if a fuse does blow the west mountain rigrunnerlights up on what fuse has gone I keep all my powerpoles connectors crimpers and wire stripper in one tool box so I’m not looking for items all the time and a good selection of the 15/30/45 amp fixing Great video you have done to explain how to keep cables tidy in the shack 👍

It's easy to earn your ham radio license. I did it 43 years ago when I was 26. Now my grandchildren play with the GMRS and I communicate worldwide

If you dont want a license you can have thousands of miles of range with side band 11 meters (CB). You can use GMRS if you dont need much range.

At that price you can keep them, far to much money, I guess you get them for half the price your selling them at, you get free gear for the reviews you do, and you dont do a very good job of that, what a greedy person you are, yet you say you look after your subscribers...

I'm thinking of swapping out my 100W portable solar panel for a typical 100W panel such as a Renogy or similar...its a lot less unwieldy and really doesn't take up much room when stowing away. Wondering if there's a way to incorporate a battery monitor to use with the Bioenno batteries.

here in FL, we have even harsher sun than TX. i painted my plates white to reduce heat absorption even further. i wish lord callum would offer the commanders in either gray or white. he has NO idea what 'direct sun' is really like since he lives in the land of cloudy weather.

I would not run a ground wire to the outside that gives lightning a path into your house. I bond everything in the shack and use the house ground to the main breaker box. The outside ground is for antennas and towers that require a ground wire. I do run a wire from pass through ground plate to ground rod and then tie the two ground rods together per code. My two ground rods are about 70’ apart. I don’t care what anyone else does with their stuff it’s their responsibility.

Another awful review, Again you did not show anything, what about showing the SWR on the frequencies it covers, you did not transmit over the air why not, this is another very poor review, who is going to be interested in this product off the back of what you have shown..

I was looking at the exact switch for the same problem. I have 3 radios and 1 HF antenna. I was told that it is possible that RF could get into to other radios not in use, there is not enough isolation to keep that from happening. Any feedback about this possible problem??

I have both and I can say my piece too. In my opinion you don't know the 991A enough, if anything it's the opposite you perceive the signal with the 991A while with the 7300 you have it inside the noise. The 991A's DSP is better DNR, contour noch shift is much better than on the 7300

Great example of how to make a great antenna with very little tech or resources. A few notes: 1. The crimper you used was for uninsulated connectors, you were using insulated connectors. There is a big difference in the crimp and the quality of the connection after. 2. The "pointy" end of the crimper of an uninsulated crimper tool should be used toward the "bottom" of the connected (side without the split). Google this, as it doesn't seem intuitive, but it is correct 3. When applying solder to a joint, you should not apply the solder to the iron tip and then move the solder around the joint, but rather the opposite side of the joint that you are heating to ensure that the joint area is actually to the proper temperature to melt the solder preventing a cold joint.

Great video! Thank you. I've been trying to learn Morse code here lately, and I'm not sure if I've ever heard an example of bad tone, That's interesting. Or maybe I've heard it and just didn't know that it was bad😂.

Thank you. As a new ham I appreciate all perspectives on this subject. We live in a very rural area, and when storms approach or are forecast we unplug most anything that has a circuit board. I have grounded the radio but have not bonded to the main entry ground. Thinking about undoing. Several local club members agree with you.

I would google it or see if youtube has a vidfeo for that radio. I have one of the old Swan radios and that plugs directly into the wall, but has a built in 300 watt amp. Yours may be similar. Defintely see if you can hunt down a pdf manual for it. I hope this helps. Thanks fo rthe comment and for watching. 73!!
