Japan is getting cheaper now. I'm so glad we decided to move and live here. We live in a 2-bedroom house with a living room and a dining/kitchen (just 1 train ride half an hour from Shinjuku!) where we pay 460 USD per month. It has loads of balcony glass doors in both the living room and kitchen area to a wooden deck so it's super bright, plus a bay window facing the Japanese garden of our neighbor. Same style as hers: cream wallpapers and dark wood finishing. It's beside two rivers and its riverbank parks lined with sakura trees in both directions, a sprinkling of shrines and temples, and we can see Mt. Fuji too. Best part is it's near clinics, supermarkets, shops, and resto on a main road just a minute's walk away. And it's SO SO quiet and peaceful, except during the afternoon when children come out and play or dogs yipping.

After I was screwed over by my local gas company raising my bill $100 every month of winter (and I paid it off every month in full without any rolling over, all until it got to $400 in a single month), I decided never again am I getting gas. I'll freeze to death before that. I live in an apartment with all-electric right now but I'm looking to move. I just sent an email today to the location of my first pick apartment if they're all electric. If not, it's going to be space heaters for winter and boiling water to wash with on a hot plate (not a gas stove). I refuse to get the gas turned on. I live in the south so summer would be the real kicker, not winter.

Gorgeous! No wonder you don't wish to move again--ever. Since you asked, I vote for the deep gold curtain. Replacing it would be pricey, isn't in the spirit of sustainable, and this one works. It warms the cool concrete/black palette you have going but remains neutral. However, if you want to further integrate it with the rest of the decor, you could echo a note of that colour in number of subtle ways--text on a pillow, pots for plants, a poster, a catch-all tray, anything really--to make the colour seem more intentional.

Such an awesome apartment, I could very comfortably live in it! I love everything but the stove top buttons, I once had an oven with buttons situated like that and my cat would jump up there and accidentally turn the oven on, hopefully you can disable those buttons when not in use.

the ih type stoves don't actually heat up themselves but only special ih pots/pans. if your cat jumps up there (like mine) the oven goes on but only heats up if it detects a pot/pan on the burner. otherwise it'll flash the lights a couple of times and turn off. they are very pet and child friendly as long as pots and pans aren't left on top unattended

a year late to the party here but i think changing the curtains could completely change the space. That being said, you've got a lot of brown tones in your furniture (wood on the couch arms, brown leather office chair, oak table, dark walnut entertainment center) so they do work.

I wondered about what was so “luxurious” about your apartment until you showed the bathroom. Wowsers is that a nice bath! I too would have asked, “okay, where do I sign?”

Sweet place. That shower and tube set up rocks and I have to get some of that wall paper for my own place.

if I'm right...the clean button on the potty will lift it up off the floor just a bit to get a swiffer sweeper mop under it

Lovely apartment! The two shelves the TV is sitting on is really smart, same as the shelves close to your kitchen, so useful. And wow fluffy trunks, love 'm. The light switch is really cool too, I think I saw that before in Japan but it is such a nice thing to have because it changes the atmosphere a lot. The sink is awesome and the grill seems so cool (can you not put a pizza in the grill?). That shower in your bathroom looks so amazing. WTH a tv and dimmed and colored lights in your bath(room), I love it. Haha such an amazing place!!

Just below the large flush button is the one you didn't know what it actually do. It's a button to self clean the tube for the bidet; sanitizes it as well.

That’s such an amazing apartment for just $750! I could live there so comfortably 😍 I don’t even need the extra bedroom but I definitely would turn it into either an office, recreational and/or fitness room. Or get a cool roommate but I’d rather not lol

For your spice rack in the kitchen, have you looked at the Command™ Quartz Picture Ledge and the Command™ Display Ledges, easy to put up and easy to take down, I use mine at my desk to keep certain items close by with multiple uses other than just pictures.

We live in Santa Rosa and had to evacuate for the Tubbs fire of 2017...we did not loose our house thankfully but so many of our friends did. Consider getting a fire proof document box for your passport and other important papers. We had fifteen minutes to grab some clothes, our dog, medicines, computers and cherished keepsakes. having that document box already organized made it easy to just grab and go. It would be handy for a earthquake too

That apartment would easily be like $2k/month in the US or more depending which state. No apartment here is that nice

Max Tamer it’s cheap compared to anything in Melbourne. You can get a real shithole for $200 a week but that’s the minimum
