I think my favorite part about this renovation you two worked on is how cohesive it is! With all the traveling you've been doing and having to communicate a lot of things remotely it looks and feels like the communication and teamwork to do this kept on going well. Nothing seems out of place and all the accents added throughout give the feel of a nice, desirable place to visit. (I would add if this is the first and only house Ushka and you have teamed up to renovate, it's a glowing first example to add to your resumes. Watch out, others out there may be watching and wanting to hire you two!)

Love how it turned out! For the book nook, I think it would be nice to have some books to give ideas on what to visit in the area or even just some coffee table type ones on different, unique things in Japan (like the manhole covers).

Such a good idea! Maybe bike paths, cat centric places to visit, and a studio ghibli art book.
@mikaeladeer27632 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea. I was also thinking about doing it in free library-style (bring one, take one). People staying there could leave their favourite book and take a new one. Therefore there would always be new books to read if somebody wants to stay there multiple times and the books might also end up being from different countries and maybe even in different languages.
@heyspeckle87822 жыл бұрын

That little loft space is cosy goals! As a potential guest, I have some suggestions; In the genkan, it would be nice to have a rod with some hangers above the space where you said the suitcases can go, I suppose hooks can work as well, but wet jackets might damage the wallpaper in the long run. Add a semi-full length mirror, it's nice to be able to see yourself before you go out. For the bedrooms, I would add clothing racks with hangers, as it can be a bit annoying to literally live out of one's suitcase. A mirror somewhere in the bedrooms would also be welcome. It would also be nice to have a small sidetable or night stand in the bedrooms near outlets, so you can leave your phones to charge at night, and also have somewhere to put your glasses before going to bed.
@chocjamie2 жыл бұрын
I agree, I always want a bedside table or at least some sort of shelf or pocket for my phone, earphones, and medication. Maybe a coffee table or side tables downstairs for cups to go too? Otherwise you put them on the floor, they get knocked over etc.

I'd leave the thrifted desk as-is instead of painting it grey. It looks nice how it is currently and making it grey would make me think more of the 'flipper special' where house flippers or landlords just make most everything a grey color.

@anthonynelson66712 жыл бұрын
I do think I like the idea of leaving the stained wood showing. Alternatively, they could seek out a custom cat-themed grey desk mat/desk protector that could be cut to fit the top of the desk and matches the grey color of the chair, place little protective covers over the desk feet that are colored and shaped like cat paws, and maybe update the hardware/drawer pulls with cat toys or something else cat themed?

In that "storage"place with the stars wallpaper 2 kids can sleep like bunk beds type with small foldable mattresses.... Little hidden place (like a castle or a tree house), yet close to parents in case they feel scared to sleep alone in a new place. I bet kids will really enjoy it there! My 10year old kid loved seeing it and gave that idea! I guess it's exciting to climb up in a hidden place full of stars!

As I watched you going cat-gaga over samples in the beginning stages I wondered whether it would be cheesy. But no. It's charming. All of it--even the birds and the way you opened up space throughout. I'd love to see an interview with your contractor/builder and the company's initial reaction to working with foreign women, why they hesitated over some of your requests, as well as how they feel now about the end results. Are there things you have done that they've never done before which they will now recommend to other clients? You've hit it out of the park, Mesdames! Congratulations!

True but paint can also easily be stripped off from it and the piece can be restored as well. With it being used for an AirBNB it might be best to paint it so any small scuffs and such wouldn't cause as much damage to the original surface.

Well, Sharla, you two did a very good job with the remodel, I liked everything about the house including repurposing old closets to add extra space. I am honestly impressed, the only very slight criticism I might have was with the desk in the upper bedroom, you suggested painting it gray, I think it would look better in its natural wood tone, wood tends to warm up the room. I also like that you kept the "extra cubby space" open and accessible, people will love it . . . I'm sure. It's obvious you both are happy and excited about the house, if I'm in Tokyo I'll be sure to look you up.

Looks a little textured so I think my Azuki would scratch it up as she is the current wallpaper we have. You said wallpaper wasn’t that expensive but is that real world talk or KZbin money talk? You two have done SUCH an amazing job!! Genuinely. People like you thinking of even the tiniest details that may not be noticed first hand, are the type that need to be designing houses/renos. Looking at many houses/apartments, it's so easy to see no thought or care is put into them. Which is such a shame, because these are spaces that others are expected to make new memories in and experience for a significant amount of time in that point in their lives. Personally, my favorite, was how you both repurposed and evolved the closets-essentially removing them to add much needed space to make the area logically more open/passable, while keeping the overhead as storage(as to avoid just dead space that serves no purpose). Thank you so much for sharing this series, and some of the steps and thought processes you both took in creating this masterpiece. I so hope this gives you two an amazing return on your investments so this can be, dare I say, the first of more renovations if that's what you choose to do. Again, amazing, thank you, and best of luck!

I know the house isn't 100% finished yet, but as I was watching the video I kept thinking of things like where would I put my glasses at night if I stayed there? Where would I put a wet umbrella or coat? Where would I hang my clothes? If nothing else, to keep the clean aethestic, put some shelves in the bed areas for glasses and a shelf to hang things in both bedrooms. Otherwise, I think the makeover is fantastic! Love the 'jail' and can totally see that as a library/gaming room. It's for older kids through adults only though - way too easy for a little kiddo to fall from the topmost loft area as there's no railing up there to stop that from happening. The cat-paw wallpaper is adorable - I've never seen the like of it before. I've been enjoying the redo videos you've provided and can hardly wait to see it when it's fully completed.

Otherwise that toucan wallpaper looks fine and doesn’t feel overly tropical lol. If anything the two bedrooms could use even more color but, like I said, simplicity is good. Don’t want it feeling overly crowded as people may bring a lot of stuff

It looks absolutely amazing! I’m so glad you guys decided to make this an Air B&B. Now I know where to go when I gift myself a trip to Japan after I graduate 🥰

man did this turn out nice and not just the decorations but also with the good use of the limited space you guys had available I think the favorite is the nook above the first bedroom

The house is awesome I love the cat paws on the walls, your builder has done an excellent job with your amazing ideas for the place you both should be very happy with the results and next time we are in Japan we would love to stay there

What a transformation! I definitely agree with you on the toucan wallpaper. 😬 haha I’d go with unpatterned bedding too with the heavily patterned wallpaper. Are you going to provide any storage? Removing the closets added space but for longer visits there’s now nowhere to put your clothing. I love the bathroom and all the nice appliances. Amazing that they can renovate a whole house so quickly!

Agree....I'd go with plain bedding. IKEA has awesome white cotton duvets that might like nice against the busy wallpaper, which is lovely.

Didn't see anywhere to hang clothings in the bedrooms. So agree with the storage issue. Imagine two big suitcases per adult, that's going to get messy very fast, laying everything everywhere.
@SunstormSolo2 жыл бұрын
I was also noticing this and wondering if they're planning to do storage with bedside tables or something

I think it looks really nice together if you take away the patterned bedding it would look to plain

@@Rosecloudlyrics I don't think the bedding and the wallpaper really go together though.

You both did a great job redoing the house and its layout. I love the paw prints on the walls and the star ceiling in the hidden nook and the Tv console! The clean lines and the fun modern decor flows throughout the house beautifully. Unfortunately, the writing desk sticks out like a sore thumb. If you keep the desk, new paint and hardware would certainly help it fit the house a bit better. I know you are happy it is almost finished. Your hard work paid off and I know many people will enjoy staying in your lovely house!

Loved your house. Your reaction to the high tech toilet was so funny! Oshiri turbo?!?! Your story about a Japanese guy who insisted on keeping instructional papers to keep the newness of the appliances is so funny! So Japanese. Lol.

Oh my gosh I love it so much!!! It came together in such an amazing way! You all did a great job choosing everything for it and the builders did an awesome job making it a reality. I don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but it would be so cool if guests would bring a magnet from where they live to leave on the wall for you too.

Looks so cute, can't wait to see the decorated version! Some translations for the bath tube and toilet buttons would be helpful xD Maybe I have a helpful recommendation: I don't know if you can get it in Japan, but instead of using a mat underneath the chair upstairs, you can get some new wheels. There are wheels that look like the wheels from inline skates made out of a kinda soft rubber material, also in a transparent color. I'm really happy with mine and not to have a mat anymore. Dirt can be easily collected under the edges and when you wipe the floors you have to take care that the area is dry before putting the mat down again...

Wow, rehab turned out very nice. Live the kitty footprint wall paper. The nook in the first bedroom will be a big hit with kids as a sleeping area. Can't wait to see it after you finish decorating.

Congrats Sharla & Ushka, reno looks fantastic. Agree with many comments and definitely a must is the tourist books & instruction manuals in english. I would also add, please do not over accessorise the rooms with decor, less is more. The cat theme is awesome so perhaps a cat theme welcome pack would tie in everything rather than having so many items to move each time you clean. There was a mention about plants in the living/lounge area, being such a small space, I would suggest a beautiful vase of flowers or plant on the dinning table, you can replenish at each new visit or remember to water. Keep basic linen like sheets and towels to one colour, easy to purchase and wash in single loads. Best wishes with this new venture.

Love everything! I can't believe how fast you got everything done. What a super team of builders! Love the 猫猫 sign and the starry ceiling. The magnetic bathroom is so clever. I'm not living in Japan anymore to exploit this discovery, but it's blown my mind! Well done and can't wait to see the listing fow when Japan reopens

Really great job you have done there! I so loved the big black cat that holds the small coffees! Absolutely amazing. And I have definitely enjoyed the wallpaper that glows in the dark. Really beautiful. As soon as I saw the room with the desk, I imagined a very big...I can't recall the word right now, one of those tools in Maths that counts the degrees. You could put that up there in a BIG size if you found one, and in case you like the idea. I think it would go very well with the wallpaper. Mathematicians would definitely love that! And all the rooms looks so nice and fresh right now, it's great job you have done there. What a big difference. And the wallpaper with the cat's foot prints, is the BEST!!!! Wow! I feel very inspired now. And that floor with the pebbles, also looks very natural and relaxing. I do love the birds on the wallpaper I have to say. But then, it's your decision what to keep and what to change. And what a great idea to add the cat stationary inside the drawer! Well done, well done!!

The nook in the bedroom is a great idea! I have 4 children so 6 of us travel to Japan. My 2 little ones would LOVE having a hidden place like this too sleep in. Your place could actually sleep the 6 of us with that room very comfortably. Very well thought out

Oh wow, the renovation turned out so amazing! The galaxy wallpaper is wild - I love it so much ❤️ Perhaps you could get some footrests or ottomans for the sofa downstairs? For people who have spent the day walking/exploring, it’s nice to be able to put your feet up ☺️ I hope Japan opens up to tourists again soon - we would love to stay at the Neko Neko Inn!

New goal unlocked: stay at this airbnb when/if I ever get to go to Japan. I truly love how you guys decided to transform the space and honestly removing the closets was one of the best things to do, because the house feels so much spacier this way. I love the little hideout from upstairs and I am so happy you were determined to make it. I always wished to have a small space like that and the wallpaper on the ceiling is such a great touch!!! I absolutely love the onsen themed bathroom and the fact that even the ceiling is wooden adds so much to the aesthetic of it! I need to mention that I am OBSESSED with the cat themed wallpapers and the overall cat theme that the house has going on for itself! 😭💜 This was a great journey and I was excited for every video about it! Ushka and you both did such a great job with this house! ♥️
