Looks like this version is the first one with the power buttons! You are correct, the newer versions sound better but the changes between versions were pretty subtle to my ear. The DeEsser came a long way! I beta test for Pulasar as well. As soon as I got my hands on the first version it replaced my stereo buss EQ and has lived there since! It's a great emulation they did a great job and it was a pleasure to work it. Great guys over there at Pulsar! They really care about putting out a good product. This EQ is so good I can't believe it. I also got this first thing in the morning when I saw the release. This plugin a) sounds insanely musical - I was driving it surprisingly hard and it just sounds like a smooth analogue EQ, b) it's WAY easier to use than so many other mastering EQ plugins, c) it's jammed with features I did not expect (the tilt features are amazing, the de-esser is also great when you only add a bit). Just a no brainer.

I recently took part in a mix challenge (big shout out to @Chris Selim), in which I was limited to using only five Cubase stock plugins (to be precise: Frequency 2, Compressor, Magneto II, Stereo Delay and Roomworks). I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome (ok, maybe not "surprised", as I knew what I wanted the mix to sound/feel like) and it forced me to remember a very important point in music production: your ears are the most important thing! That said, I have downloaded the trial version of the Pulsar Audio 8200 and have already tested it on a few unmastered tracks. It's beautiful! I'm particularly loving the sub and air controls (and a little of each/either goes a long way), as well as the option to hide the graphic display; the de-esser is also very good! From a mastering perspective, I think it's worth the money! Thanks for another great video, Dom. I installed Audio 8200 halfway into watching it.

🍀🎶 Every few days a new "Non plus ultra" plugin comes onto the market along with a "nicely laid out" KZbin tutorial. Most of us, for whom home recording is "just" a very committed hobby, easily fall into the belief that this or that new "super plugin" will take our music or production to another level. But that works basically also with the stock plugins of Cubase Pro. I suspect that most users underestimate Cubase Pro plugins or, lacking the necessary know-how, do not know how to use these plugins "correctly". But hope for this through the plugins from third parties. I now see it with a "healthy distance". Quite apart from that: In no time at all you have 500 or more plugins on your SSD - and which plugins do you really use?! Maybe a tenth. Or?

I'm in the process of learning the mastering process. I've already got the Knife Soma and SPL PQ plugins, and I'm curious to know what differences my non pro ear can pick out between them and the 8200 ?? How would you compare them all, in a mastering environment ??
@DomSigalas Жыл бұрын
I have all of the EQs you mentioned and they are all fantastic. They have very different features and different curves but the 8200 has some cool tricks up its sleeve with the Sub, Air and Tilt bands + the de-esser. Also, the Auto-Gain which proved to be really useful- even though I wouldn't use it all the time! For mastering, it wouldn't be unusual for me to add several of those EQs for their different curves. I do think the 8200 is totally worth a demo.

Dom! Thanks for such a helpful and great video! I know it was a sponsored video, the plugin itself sounds amazingly great! One quick question and honest answer. For mastering purposes, which one would you choose: Pulsar Audio 8200 plugin or Weiss EQ1 (you can only choose one). And why? Pros and cons of each. Thank you so much for your time.
@DomSigalas Жыл бұрын
You're welcome! Yes, it was a sponsored video but if I wasn't completely sold on the plugin I wouldn't cover it- this is my ethos and the reason why I completely avoid doing reviews even for very popular plugins that I know people are interested in :) Now in terms of Weiss vs 8200: The Weiss has Dynamic Eq'ing as well so it's not *really* a fair comparison but I would say that if you want a musical EQ go for the 8200. If you want the most revered digital EQ emulation (Weiss is digital) with dynamic and don't mind the heavier price tag, go for the Weiss. They are very different tools so it depends on your needs. Most of the times, I am looking for a colourful EQ, but the Weiss is a darn good digital EQ for mastering. Hope I didn't confuse you!

Hey, come on... the graphic eq is cheating lol! 3:30 few clicks boom! sounding really awesome
@thejackrhythm Жыл бұрын
Good video. I somewhat share the same opinion when it comes to EQ and graphs. When I'm mixing, I don't want to look at curves (frequencies), because it takes away the attention from my ears and makes me use visual feedback to mix instead. I'm not really a fan of that, unless I'm trying to figure out some problem frequencies or trying to fix muddiness etc. Also, same on the EQ curves, technically they can be matched on Pro-Q or Kirchoff etc etc, but how would you even match the curves, unless you pull both the plugins up side by side and try to mix on the 8200 and then match those curves on the FabFilter. At that point, it's just not worth it, why not use the right tool at the right time instead? The goal is to mix music, not to sit around and match EQ curves. Curious to see how this would compare to the AMEK EQ's. Although they aren't a 1:1 emulation of the 8200, but a fusion of the GML and Sontec EQ's.
@DomSigalas Жыл бұрын
💯 I tried it against the AMEK- they sound different as expected. Both great EQs though. The Sub and Air functions as well the Tilt and de-easer on the 8200 made a big difference for me adding to the functionality of the GML8200 :)
@gadjox Жыл бұрын
Eq is just math and that math has been there for years. I can't believe that some of you still buy it that a new release can magically be so much better than the previous ones.
@DomSigalas Жыл бұрын
I tackle this argument at 11:15. There’s nothing to *buy*. All these things are tools. Whichever tool gets you closer to the result you’re after then this is what you should use. There’s a reason why people reach for different EQs for specific purposes. Can I do a full mix with my stock EQ? Hell yes. Will it be quicker and more enjoyable if I do it with tools I know have specific curves/features? Yes again.
@rafyahu Жыл бұрын
We don't give math to our audience. We deliver sound. Some eq's fit better to certain situations than others. I have already made substantial results with this new one, quicker and better than the lot of eq's I already have. Others for transients, others for dynamic eq, etc.

You do realize that sound isn’t really that altered with KZbin right? It also a mastering EQ which in this video is super subtle. Sounds like a skill issue to me.

Your word choice throughout this competent walkthrough becomes distracting. You say unnecessary words such as 'really,' 'actually,' and 'very' too often. A tool is either transparent or it's not. Not really transparent. You likely aren't scripting this out, but thinking about word choice can make your presentation less repetitive and more impactful. I think your clients and viewers would appreciate the difference.

How many more eq’s do we need most new plugins come out and it’s always the same this is the best. 🤮 how about these plugin company start donating some money to a fund that provides was health care and retirement money for all musicians!

You don’t need to buy tons of EQs. Just because something new is out doesn’t mean you should rush and buy it. It’s good to know what exists though and pick your tools wisely. Plugins are a small price to pay. When I started out of you wanted a nice EQ you needed to shell out £2000-3000 at least. Let’s be grateful for what technology has allowed us to achieve with so much lower cost.
