I'm 37 and I am slogging through professionals that are calling it depression and mood disorders. They just don't get it and will not entertain ADHD is a thing. Very demoralizing. Gotta keep trying.

Keep trying, change doctors. Insist on seeing a psychiatrist that prescribes ADHD meds. Tell your GP that your family and friends say you have ADHD. (Maybe one family member works in care 😉)

I completely understand what you mean. I was tired of hearing doctors constantly telling me that and prescribing me antidepressants, and I knew that wasn’t the solution. What I recommend is that you go and have a professional assessment for ADHD. I just had mine a month ago after struggling with doctors for several years. By the way, I’m 33, so 37 is not too late for a diagnosis.

I used Harley Street Mental Health. It costs £700 but if you just tell them how it's affecting your life with specific examples I can't see them not diagnosing you. Just try and lean away from saying you feel depressed and focus more on inability to focus and forgetfulness

After bring diagnosed in my 40s with inattentive ADD I began taking meds. 1 year later I had a stroke due to a pre existing condition snd the meds which I stopped taking . If you choose to use meds remember , meds are only part of the solution. In my opinion add needs medication, organization, and good communication. And a good therapist or doctor.

Thank you for sharing. Really helpful for me. I’m at the bit where the Elvanse is wearing off after lunch and I crumple back into an anxious mess. Heard good things about Dexedrine, I think the quick release/shorter acting solution may give me a bit more control over things. I was diagnosed in my 50s. Looking back, so much makes sense, it’s a shame to have gone through decades of messing up with no clue as to why I could never get it together. Best wishes for the next part of your journey.

Dude! Your story/reactions pretty much exactly mimic my experience. I’ve not tried the long acting versions (yet) but I started on Ritalin, and at first it was great, but then I’d start noticing the afternoon dose just wouldn’t work anymore, plus after it all wore off I was just so tired, apathetic and hungry! So we moved to dex, I’m about two days in now and I’ve just been thinking “gosh this is weird”. I feel slow, relaxed and calm with only slight focus effects, so I’m hoping it picks up like it did for you! I’m also a serial relapser smoker, and chewing nicotine gum at the moment, but I’m feeling like I just don’t need it anymore so that’s awesome. Feel the need for less coffee during the day too so that’s great!

Strattera made me very emotional and sensitive. Concerta made my heart race so much. They tried me on Medikinet IR which works okay, now trialling Medkinet XL. my only issue is that I often feel overheated. Been trialled on every type of med available. Oddly enough, they never tried me on IR Amphetamine-based meds. My best med was an NDRI called Bupropion, however I got really bad tinnitus and headaches. still not sure how I feel about the on and off feel of methylphenidate: scared it's always going to feel a bit intense.
@maxlawrence3 жыл бұрын
Most docs / psychiatrists fail to carry out a correct titration of the meds. I suggest trying Methylphenidate again but with a lower dose. I keep coming across people who say same as you about how it felt but when they drop the dose by 50%, often it’s perfect. Thanks for sharing : )

Plus, the doctors don't tell you about the chronic low blood sugar and how you need to adress that by eating appropriatly. Stims dont work at all on low energy. So people believe they dont work and give up.

Staterra and Concerta made me a slug. Adderall was nice but the “crashes” were not nice. Adderall XR was better but still had crashes. Vyvanse was the game changer. Been on 70mg for years and I love it. I “split” the capsule and take 1/3 every 3 hours. Removes the anxiousness that I had when I took the full 70mg all at once. When I take my meds, I start a 1 hour timer and when that timer goes off, I know that I need to start working on whatever I need to get done that day. Because once Vyvanse kicks in, whatever I’m doing is what I’m going to be doing for at least the next 3 hours. I have to make sure I’m not doing something non-productive because I’ll be locked in on that. Not good. Have you ever forgotten to take your meds for a day? I’ve done that a few times and every time I’m amazed with how insane my brain is.
@maxlawrence3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Interesting how you take your Vyvanse (in UK it’s called Elvanse). Was that technique suggested by your doc? Vyvase worked great for me until I started on an afternoon dose and then had the panic attack. I now think that it was due to me having stopped my SSRI which I take for OCD and mainly panic disorder but I can’t be sure unless I move back to Vyvanse. I have never forgotten to take my meds as it’s the first thing I think of when I wake up and despite having adhd, my memory to keep taking the pills seems to function well as I know I don’t want to be the old version of me without the focus! Do you fancy doing an Instagram live together to discuss adhd? It could be fun and would perhaps help us both attract more followers. Or we could do it on FB. Any thoughts?
@GoADHDGo3 жыл бұрын
@@maxlawrence My psychiatrist suggested splitting my Vyvanse. I had ran out before my appointment, therefore I went about 7 days without taking it. I took half when I woke up and half 2 hours later… it was awesome. No more anxiousness like I use to get when I took a full capsule. In October 2019, I started taking full spectrum CBD oil and that really cut down on any anxiety issues. Even if I take a full Vyvanse capsule I don’t get any anxiousness anymore. CBD has been a life changer. As for a live stream thingy… I’m all for it! I don’t do the Facebook thing because Facebook is a rabbit hole for ADHDers. I’m actually in the process of creating a Go ADHD Go community on Discord and/or Slack. A place where ADHDers can connect with others without the distractions. I’m on Instagram but I’ve never done Instagram live. I should probably figure out how to do that. :)

@@GoADHDGoHmm. Honestly, everything you've said and the way you've said it makes it seem like you're abusing your medication. Your doctor recommending that you split a capsule that is the maximum recommended daily dosage into thirds doesn't make any sense. Those thirds all have to get converted from lisdexamfetamine into dextroamphetamine, so they're all gonna have the listed 14-hour duration. If 70mg truly wasn't enough, they'd either prescribe more (80mg, etc) or they'd prescribe a low dose of Adderall IR to be taken before you crash. Also, running out of a medication before your next refill appointment (from the sound of it, 7 days early) is a clear sign that you're not taking it as prescribed. This is assuming that you actually are seeing a doctor and not getting the medication illicitly.
@GoADHDGo Жыл бұрын
@@juliachild9377 First off, I read your entire comment in Julia Child's voice. I've never been happier. Second, I don't abuse my medication because that's just not right. As for splitting my meds into thirds... I'd split just one 70mgs capsule into 3 separate doses, therefore, I wasn't taking more than 1 capsule per day, therefore, I never ran out of my meds early. Also, Vyvanse didn't last for 14 hours for me... it was more like 10 hours or so. Luckily, I never had sleep issues while taking Vyvanse, so I could take the last third at 7pm and still sleep like a baby. With all that said... in August 2023 I switched from Vyvanse to Mydayis and I've been very happy with the results. Mydayis has 3 release stages, so it's basically doing the splitting for me. Mydayis is basically Adderall XR XR. Adderall XR is released in 2 stages, Mydayis in 3. I like it. As for getting medication illicitly... who has that kinda time!? lol!

Sounds like interference from another stimulant, alcohol and not eating.... adrenal overload on the HPA axis. For this, I do SNRI pristiq low dose and Vyvanse. I do vape and nicotine gum.... but I am working on just gum and adding PEA, L-tyrosine, L-theanine. Alcohol is HUGE problem w ADHD. It actually creates ADHD symptoms in anyone. Lowers B-vitamins, raises inflammation, raises blood pressure, lowers frontal lobe activity, interrupts sleep cycles, causes cytokine storms, histamine. Low dose ketamine is excellent for quitting drinking. It only took me 1 week to not think of alcohol again.

I've been on Wellbutrin, othe anti depression & SSRI medications and amphetamine stimulants over the last 3 years. Usually with very minimal to no effect at all. Have you found the Vyvanse to help & at what MG? I'm wondering if my doctor would be willing to try a methylphenidate product instead. I'm really frustrated with trying to get my meds right and tired of being tired all the time.
