MY AMP OVERHEATED...MY OWN FAULT. HERE IS HOW I FIXED IT!

I encountered my 1st problem with the Skar Audio system. Due to my own fault in placement choice, the amp overheated and shut off. I decided to do it how it should have been done in the 1st place and it came out awesome.

Looks clean man. You definitely have to let that Amp breath. With the Hatch back I know it’s loud AF! I had to put fans in my trunk setup to keep the amp from shutting off.

Check to see if the top cover can be flipped around on that amp. I doubt it is but maybe I'm wrong.

You should use the two outside terminals positive and negative to get maximum power and it will not over heat

Oh no I think you might find that being in the back window where it can get direct sunlight might keep it hot but if you can keep it cool with AC or Windows down it might work but me and you have to drill holes into that thing I don't know I'm thinking you might regret it bro hopefully it works without overheating

Nice install, a couple things though. I'm pretty certain that the power and ground wire are Copper Clad Aluminum wire. With an amp like that you would see gains if you opted for Full copper wire as it is much more conductive than aluminum. Lastly, the speaker out wire seems too thin to pass all that power, hard to tell but it looks lke 16awg at most. 10AWG would be preferable( also in full copper aka ofc).

No lie bruhh I’ve been listening in my house while I get everything setup in the car and it’s been getting hott to the touch I’m using a pc now with it raised up about 4-5 inches .. what did you end up doing it hasn’t overheated yet but I’m definitely watching it..

I have the ds18 exl version 2000.4 A/B I believe the class d are better they don’t get hot the other 4 channel amp I have is class d 4 ch and is always cool and gives tons of power also made by ds18 looking to send the exL back for a replacement of the class d I will try out some fans before I do it though

I'm running 2 rp2000.1s in open air and they still get warm. And I barely have the gains up at all. Using 0 guage welding cable for power and ground with a second battery. I have 2 xfl 12s with one amp on each.

If you don't mind, I just picked up a used Dodge Magnum, very nice Boston speakers all around, but the receiver at full volume is not nearly loud enough for a large 4 door hatchback. I haven't been into car stereo's since the 80's. Do I need an amp to kick up the power or a new receiver? If so, how can I do this affordably (I can't do my own installs, trashed my back in a motorcycle wreck and I'm pushing 60. Could I buy whatever component you suggest and find someone on Craigslist for the install? I'm guessing stereo shops are pricey. Thanks much

Solder some 1/0 gauge wire to ur ground wire and hook it up to ur amp and then the same with hot wire. Tust me your amp won't overhead

i have a dual enclosed 12’ mtx terminator with a 2000 watt planet audio and it keeps going into safety mode after 10 minutes of hard hitting bass. any tips? all the connections are perfect

I know it is an old video but doesnt that amp have breathing slots on the bottom cover and exhaust slots on both sides? I just smoked my rp1200.1d stunk up my jeep cause i mounted it flush on carpet.. it never went into protect but it was hot enough i didnt want to leave my hand on it after i smelt the smell of car audio death and went to look for the issue. i put some 3/4 wood legs on the amp so it can get some air under it but crossing fingers i didn't toast it. It was pretty bad i can still smell it and that was like 10 hours ago i think the smell is stuck in my nose.. Anyway did you have breathing holes under yours so it could get some air and maybe just didnt show us that part?
