My BFF, hello ❤️🤗 Last week was my birthday. I celebrated it not with a fragrance haul, but with an anti "birthday perfume haul" on how to stop buying fragrances.

Behind the urge to purchase something, there is something else, usually a negative emotion.
The steps for the LETTING GO technique, which you can use for any type of emotion.
1. Allow yourself to feel emotion and identify it in your body (What's the size? What's the color?)
2. Ask yourself do you want to let go of it?
3. When do you want to let go of it?
4. Imagine the emotion exploding and let go.
Then you can replace the space with the emotion of your choice, such as love, peace.
Repeat questions to check if anything is still left.
I hope it helps. It requires practice, so be patient with yourself. Is as if you are used to walking the same road and now you are creating a new pathway.

1. No blind buys. Buy the Sample first! 2. Wear the samples and if I love it + I get a compliment, then you purchase! Most perfume samples would not get a Compliment so it reduced my collection lol but if a fragrance is so nice that it moves a stranger to make a comment, then it’s a buy. My collection is now at a top 8 for life. All of my perfumes are truly amazing!

Happy birthday, Georgia! I had to come up w some rules to curate my collection: 1. No blind buys 2. New perfume must be a LOVE, no 'I like it' is accepted 3. I unsubscribed from youtubers who sell hard, are not genuine and our tastes do not match 4. Stopped blindbuying cheapies ('I can afford that!') - it often turned out meh. Instead of 5 cheapies I'd rather buy one, but the one I am convinced I love. Thank you, Georgia, for your non-trivial approach to the subject matter.

You just described me. Buying perfumes was my only pleasure in life.I work from Monday to Friday, I could never save money for travels because I couldn’t go 3 days without spending money . On the pandemic I went from 2 perfumes to 45. I decluttered many of them but ended up buying more, I’m currently at 65. With the amount of money I spent in perfumes I could have made about 4 international trips which is my dream, to travel the world. The breaking point for me was when I had bought 16 perfumes in only 3 months but I was just not satisfied. After a perfume was delivered, I would start looking for the next best thing on literally the NEXT DAY. It is exhausting to live from pay check to pay check only to pay for your credit card bill full of fragrances you are not even excited about anymore. And it was really sad for me to look at the past 10 years when I dreamed about going to NYC or to Italy and I didn’t go not because I didn’t earn enough money, but because I kept spending it with small things. I still struggle with perfume addition, the days I’m more stressed out are the ones I crave on buying perfumes the most. But I cancelled my credit card so I wouldn’t impulse buy. I am better now, not completely healed. Good thing is I have a new job that is keeping my mind very busy. I still participate on the perfume community and I feel so sorry for the people because I am certain that 90% of them are in debt because of perfume addition. And the ones that are not in debt, probably don’t have savings. I am writing this comment on may/24 and it is the first month in 4 years that I will have extra money to save. I am greateful 🙏🏻

When I started working at 19 I always make a list on the things I want to buy so I don't buy it twice, like clothing, shoes, bags and jewelries. I like perfume so much but I only buy every other birthday so the purchase would be memorable. I totally understand your view coz that's how dopamine works and with all these content creators around it is hard to escape the urge of wanting more. We have to be cautious of our purchases coz we see a lot of these material things being sold second hand or perfumes being discarded. So at one point no matter how much we want them they can never satisfy us.

Wow! Thank you for sharing your story. It takes strength to recognize and work on breaking unhealthy habits. Congratulate yourself! The first months in 4 years with extra money to save. That is a reason for celebration and being produd of yourself. You are on the right track. PS: The positive part about fragrances is that you can recover some money if you decided to sell them. Brilliant. Over the last year, I have significantly reduced the number of purchases I make. I have also unsubscribed from many KZbin fragrance reviewers. Instead, I have found pleasure wearing and experimenting with the fragrances that I already have in my collection. I still buy, but make sure my purchases stem from my personal interest in a fragrance, not because the "community" hypes it up.

Can relate! Lately I've noticed that all my disposable income goes on perfume but the wishlist keeps growing. I've neglected my wardrobe and things like dentist appointments. I am embarrassed by how much I spend on perfume and have nothing to show for it. The thing is other people don't care, and personal joy does not last long as you said - on to the next one. I've stopped watching perfume reviews (everyone's taste is different, what do I care about someone's top 10) and am aiming for 1 perfume purchase per month. thanks for the great video ❤

I have slowed down buying so much because I had so much I was getting stressed instead of feeling joy. For the last two years if I want a new fragrance I have to test first and then sell two or three bottles for each new one I buy. I feel so much less stress now.

My toxic trait is buying travel bottle and then ending up with a full bottle anyways..ugh! One thing that helped recently is wearing a different fragrance in my collection everyday without repeating a scent until I wore everything I owned. It was kind of fun and challenging and kept my mind busy. I found several declutters and renewed my love for others through the process.

My background is the same as yours, so I understand "filling the void." My collection started during dark times. Perfume was and still is my only escape. The hunt is often better than the kill. Ordering online and waiting for the delivery is the only thing that I have to look forward to at times. Thankfully it hasn’t drained me financially yet. I am aware that fragrance hunting fills a void. I’ll take niche / flankers over food/alcohol addiction. At least I smell good. Silver lining…

Just what I need to hear. I’m starting my fragrance over from zero. So everything is new and shiny and exciting. I’ve purchased 8 bottles so far within two-three months and I made a long list on my ‘urgent buy’ and ‘maybe buy. I’m starting to really think why I’m in such a hurry to buy so many at once. It should be a slow journey of fun discovery. Might only buy 1 or 2 bottles from my ‘urgent buy’ and the rest can be purchased slowly, no hurry. I'm also attracted to the newness, always checking the new releases, although when I smell them in the shops, they're usually meh to me. Even many niche perfumes, which I can't afford anyway. Due to marketing and all the videos I watch, I imagine they would be amazing, but I really seldom find something amazing. The worst are blind buys, they're usually fails... Having said that, I don't like the idea of collecting anything, I buy perfumes to use them, so when I reach about 10 bottles, I try not to buy anything new until I've used up some.

In the past few years i've bought maybe 40 bottles of colognes. I enjoy fragrances but have asked myself "What is the limit?". The choices are endless so it's good to answer that question sooner than later. So I decided to top it at 31, one for every day of any given long month. I watch influencers on KZbin, as many of us do, and have found them helpful. I have bought some as blind buys because so many said this cologne is fantastic. First lesson, don't buy a fragrance unless you've smelled it on your skin. I visit department store fragrance counters such as Macy's Bloomingdales, Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus, etc and ask for samples and spray on my skin and walk away to make sure I like it. Id like to divide my fragrances into seasons so I have some for each season. So how to keep your interest in fragrance and satisfy the itch to buy new ones? Simple. Quality over quantity. The more you smell fragrances, I believe your tastes change, so what I liked in the beginning, I've found out I dont like as much now. So, I've given fragrances to friends, because I know they enjoy it more than I do. Maybe they complimented me on a fragrance so it's a joy to give it to them. Other option, sell ones you dont love so much and purchase something that is one your wish list. The goal now is quality, to find the ones I truly love but also allowing myself to enjoy something I love while being a giver to others. Perfecting my nose for a passion and pleasure I enjoy doesnt have to overwhelm my life or finances. Keep it fun. Georgia, as usual, delivers a perspective and topic that is needed to consider. Great video and suggestions. My number one tip is don't get sucked into collecting flankers. Also, I set myself a monthly budget, so I either buy several affordable or 1 special niche that month. If I want to splurge I do a no-buy to afford it; this really helps me look at my what's on my wishlist and then sift out duplicate scents with the same profile. I have lots of solo dolo's as I like to buy discovery sets and choose my favourite from that house. Many a time I've not liked any from the sample sets and saved myself expensive mistakes.

Great video! I needed this today. I was having an urge to buy a perfume even though i have two coming in the mail soon. A wish list is a big help. So many times I've had things on my wishlist after I sampled them and then changed my mind before i bought them. I try really hard not to impulse buy. My fragrance journey started in 2013. The peak of my purchasing took place in 2020 and 2021 (guess why). I realized purchasing 20+ fragrances a year was not sustainable or smart, so I made a change. First: Only purchase niche fragrances that I am certain I will luv. Second: Only purchase fragrances that fill a need in my collection. Third: Realize that there is an endpoint where I will not need anymore fragrances because all my fragrance needs have been fulfilled. So in 2022 I purchased only 9 fragrances. In 2023 I purchased only 6 fragrances. The goal for 2024 is 4 fragrances (3 purchases so far). The goal for 2025 is zero fragrances. By being choosey the last few years, I have made some great purchases with no regretful purchases. My collection is now near it's completion. Great video, Georgia.

Thanks for this video! Very informative and gives great tools. I’ve found that I was able to slow down significantly. I’ve purchased about 100 samples and probably 50 or so bottles in 6 months. Now I am more clear on my preferred scent profile and also I understand when some notes in my preferred scent profile won’t work. Fortunately I don’t like a lot of notes, eg saffron, oud, rose, many citruses to name a few. Also, I also realized that having 5 fragrances in my preferred scent profile isn’t necessary. I’m on a buying freeze and enjoying all the perfumes I have. I still have the urge to blind buy, buy samples and full bottles and a long wishlist but I’ve been pretty good so far.

After that number, I can buy another bottle only after I finish one of those 15 that I already have. My soul feels yours. My affection for fragrance grew in the midst of dark times. At the end of a three year period and a significant dent in my savings, there were plenty of things but very few that I truly enjoyed. There are still traces of that affection but will only buy what I fall in love with and only on vacation( kind of a souvenir)

Great video! We can only find joy, love, and peace through our lord and savior Jesus Christ! That being said, I, too, have been addicted to fragrances for the past few months. I now have around 50 bottles and over 400 decants. I was spending thousands of dollars a month to fill a void of losing my wife a year ago. Luckily, I was saved by God, but I still found myself looking like you did at these fragrance websites all the time. I realized that the excitement came from finding deals and waiting for my delivery to come. After that, the joy would be lost. I am really working on severely reducing my purchase habits and focusing on what really matters. In the end , fragrances are not something we can't live without, but we can still enjoy the beauty of them. I am putting a hard limit on how much I am allowed to spend each month and how much time I place on watching fragrance videos. You are a beautiful woman, and I pray that you can find a balance between fragrances and life. God bless and happy birthday!

Excellent video. You touched on so many important points. I have a history of addiction and I now sponsor woman across different 12 step programs and it’s so interesting how we are all dealing with the same core issues… and they just express themselves differently for each of us. My fragrances shopping has spiralled out of control in the past… but I feel pretty good about where it is now. It’s a balance because I genuinely love exploring new scents… but I have to be so careful not to slip into compulsive/ numbing out shopping.

Another suggestion some fragrances are only worth a decant. So I suggest sampling. You don't have to buy samples there are niche fragrances available for testing at high end department stores like Neiman Marcus. Also look at perfume boutiques in your area to sample fragrances. It quenches the high. ❤❤❤

So I’m not listening to influencers any longer. I have about 80 fragrances and that’s enough for me. I’m going to enjoy what I already own.. Fragrances to me are like candy or handbags or clothes, you're chasing that high and it's never enough. I thought I was being responsible with my money by buying decants/travel sizes instead of full bottles, but even then I had forked out thousands of dollars. In the end, I still preferred the designer perfumes I bought 10 years ago. I am definitely on a journey also in kicking my perfume addiction!

I always buy samples to try the fragrance out before I decide if I like them enough to buy a bottle, sometimes after I buy them, I never find the occasion to use them. I then realised even if you like the fragrance and want to purchase them, they should fit your daily routine and I’m now mindful that for occasion fragrance, I wouldn’t always buy a full bottle, I will probably go for a mini or travel set since I know I seldom use them and I prioritise getting a full bottle for easy to reach or everyday fragrance that I like after trying, it saves me a lot of money. I’m also very picky in the longevity of my fragrance has to be at least 6 hours on my skin. Sadly, for that reason, I rejected a lot of fragrance and now i only have 20 bottles of fragrance that made the cut. 😂

Happy birthday!! I appreciate what you’re sharing. As an impulsive shopper since I was a kid it’s been an ongoing thing for me. Like you said it’s always chasing the mouse in circles there’s always something & It never stops. I have 100’s of decants trying to find the perfect scents. It’s much like gambling & throwing your money out. Then you are stuck with 100’s of samples or unsuccessful blind buy bottles you have to have the space to store. It’s not healthy for us to be constantly consuming & Shopping. My trick is closely monitor your bank accounts…look at everything you have spent shopping fragrances clothes etc. When you start adding it up you will feel sick & want to ease up for sure.

Hello Georgia. I don’t know you, it’s a first video I’ve watched of your channel and I admire how honest you are with your audience. I have around 50 bottles and it’s already way too much. I was overspending for most of my life on different items, now I know that it was for similar reasons you mentioned. At the beginning of 2023 I spent a month on intense meditation and since then I don’t feel any urge to splurge my money on anything unnecessary. I have enough clothes and perfumes etc I much prefer to concentrate on my inner self these days. The technique of letting go by Dr Hawkins is phenomenal. Thanks for the video All the best

I'm starting to see my saved money back up again which makes me more calm and relaxed. Another point it's the fact that I kept giving away the ones I didn't like. This video was useful. I'm at the 10 fragrance step, but I could already see myself in what you experimented. I'll focus on quality and testing instead of purchasing directly stuff... Like the biggest issue with a massive fragrance collection is that you can't wear everything... At the end of the day it is overkill and pointless... I had the issue with clothes, and getting a minimalist wardrobe is just peace of mind.

But for the sake of this post, I will comment in English because I am sure so many viewers will resonate with your message. I recently got into discovering perfumes. It hasn't even been 3 months yet, and my collection went from one signature scent that I had for the past 12 years to 6 full-bottle niche perfumes and a bunch of paid decants (and I can't really say I have the income for such big expenditures in such a short amount of time). These past months I've been compulsively watching videos about perfumes, reading on forums, reading people's comments on Fragrantica, taking recurring trips to perfume stores, and hunting the next thing on my wish list. And when I finally got the next perfume, I wasn't even that impressed with it anymore. When you mentioned the WHY I immediately started tearing. As you said, I think this sudden obsession came from the need to fill a void as I just experienced a painful loss. I am glad I caught this obsession early on and I am determined to put a full stop to it. Thank you for your message and advice.
