What's it like living with anxiety? Can you die from worrying? I recently ended up hospitalised with physical symptoms brought on as a result of severe health anxiety. But could it actually have killed me? Also, we visit Scotland's most northerly naturist beach 👀

Ones brain can be a right bastard at times. "Oh, you've been feeling pretty good lately have you? Remember that time when you were 15 and you did that incredibly embarrassing thing? How about we dwell on that for a few days". Thanks for being so open and honest about your mental health. I'm so sorry that it' is also affecting your physical health. I'm so glad you have Shaun to help you though the harder times you experience. Love to you both xo

Watched last night. I have all my life suffered with "nerves" as it was called in my day. I too am going through yet another bad patch but listening to you describe how you are and what it's like has helped me a lot. It's so hard to get people to understand the anxiety rules us, there is no real explanation to it it's the way it is. I always thought I was stressed but watching you over these few years and the way you put it last years have made me see the difference between stress and anxiety and giving me a better understanding of my"nature". So thankyou both for all you do as it can't be easy to bare your souls like you do on camera. Lots of love. X

Great video as always guys! My wife also suffers from extreme anxiety as well. It can honestly be pretty tough sometimes, especially when you know what's going on, but don't know how to help. But the more people brave enough to talk about it, the less stigma is attached to it. Love you guys! Keep being awesome and give Otis a pet or 2 for me!

After an awful breakup in 2014 I returned from Australia to the UK. One minute I was living my best life back to living in a spare room in my ageing parents house back in gloomy Yorkshire. After phone calls with the Ex-family regarding the visa and breakup, I ended up falling off a chair losing all sensation in my left side. I got blue lighted to hospital and spent the next 3 years having tests, scans and all sorts. I suspect I had a TIA, however no one has confirmed it. The worst thing is most of the GPs I saw suggested I’d had all sorts of nasty things including a brain bleed and all sorts. Lucky my mrs is very caring and it’s taken me a good 5 years and I’m still here. I had a very bad NDE when I was 18 and she suspected it was very much suppressed PTSD. Best thing is to just live your life and carry on. We don’t know what our destiny is!

In the past 6 months I have developed a pension for panic attacks. They are the ABSOLUTE WORST! I feel like I can't control my breathing and I want to peel my skin off as I run around screaming at the top of my lungs. It really frightens the animals. Not entirely sure what brings them on but it's usually something related to my claustrophobia, like having a clogged ear or stuffed nose. I can't fly on a plane lately as the claustrophobia, which continually worsens as you age, has me setting off panic attacks. Not good when you're on a flight. I'm career successful, have a beautiful home/cars/toys, am relatively healthy yet the panic attacks are really putting a kink in my life :( And, no, I have no one to care for me - in fact I have to care for my company and my animal rescue of over 40 animals. I may have to speak to a psychologist.

I was on a flight with my adult daughter that kept on being delayed and delayed. She took her anxiety medication a half hour before boarding but it was wearing off hours later and we were still on the ground. She had taken her last pill. Seeing that she was falling apart, I stood and yelled, "Does anyone have any anxiety medication!?!" Five people stood and said "I do!!" Anxiety is common but is terrible. She was OK and slept through the flight. Understanding of all people is important.

Hi you two (three) . I am not going to comment on today's vlog other than offer love and empathy for what you all go through. What I will say is that I was a little disappointed when you came off Silver Fox because of a secret desire I have to have moved onto the cut when I retired some 11 years ago. However I now realise I follow you both because quite frankly I enjoy your personality and wit and my partner, Maureen , and I look forward to the short time you come into our lives each week via KZbin. Stay strong and well . Sincerely love all three of you. This year's calendar will be replaced by next year's at the appropriate time.

"And the crazy thing is, is I'm actually conscious that this is a waste of time, I know it's a waste of time." FINALLY, someone who understands this. I've tried to explain this to numerous people - even doctors - that I'm totally conscious of how illogical my *insert random trigger here* is, but I CANNOT get that consciousness or logic to stop the anxiety! I'm sorry that you have this infernal anxiety disorder, but by sharing it you have given me some crazy (I hesitate to use that word) relief knowing that someone else experiences that "consciousness that still doesn't stop it".

I get it. When we are feeling so full of anxiety, nothing around us makes sense. We withdraw from the world because we believe that that is the best thing for the people around us. We have high functioning autism in our family, so live with that as a family everyday. You appear lucky that you have good medical care around you. Thank you for your honesty. I became a single mom of 6 children and had to take on the full responsibility of raising them alone. It is also so easy to forget our own selfcare when dealing with family and trying to keep them okay. Again, thank you 😊

Blimey the parallels between you pair and us. Aspergers, known high IQ, one partner with tendency towards health anxiety, love of Narrowboats, moving to Scotland, I could go on, but to save you dropping off of boredom, I won't. Colin I just want to say how much I appreciate your open discussion of these issues. It really does help us. There are of course differences between us - for a start I'm at least notionally female, and my partner is gender neutral, but really, hearing about your adventure and experiences does help to make us feel that there is at least one other couple out there who understands our reality. So thank you. We will probably never meet in real life, despite all these parallels, because apart from anything else I would want to respect your privacy, but just knowing you two are out there often makes me feel better. I'm tearing up just writing this, so I think I'd best leave it there...

Great Video. I had a heart attack in 2019 out of the blue on holiday. I’ve always been aware of my health but since it happened, when I feel awful, I associate it to my heart condition and therefore my anxiety snowballs. This week I decided to resign from work (the company was really good and supportive), to take a break, and get my head straight and retreat to the country for a while. I also lost my father in law earlier this year. I realised I couldn’t do a complicated job at the same time dealing with everything else. You have vocalised anxiety so well in relation to both of you. You have understood that you will help people by normalising something that everyone finds difficult to vocalise. Keep up the good work and carry on really enjoying life!

Being open and sharing as you are, helps! I had panic attacks when going through some difficult times! I knew what it was though, but still they would knock me to my knees, hyperventilating, with chest discomfort! I thought I was having a heart attack! It's a cycle though! Because as you get through it, of course you are fine again but you think, what the hell was that! The fear of having another attack, lingers under the surface, which causes more anxiety!!! And then another attack comes and slaps you up back the head (or brain)! It took a lot of work calming myself, breathing and dismissing the physical symptoms! REALIZING I WAS NOT GOING TO DIE was key!!! Hard but bit by bit it gets better with support! You are likely a "Pleaser", wanting to keep all people happy and beating yourself up if you let people down! An impossible task that wears one down! Later in life, I was fine, but my wife started to have attacks! Counseling helped her some but they seemed to be getting worse where she was trying medication, with which she felt even worse! To make a point, in the midst of one of her attacks I got "mad" at her (intentionally but I wasn't really)! She soon responded in kind! Sounds cruel at first glance but I stopped after her load outburst that I was "uncaring" and asked, " but how do you feel now"! That burst of anger snapped her out of the attack. I explained that she needs to breath as the counseling had shown her, sure, but also get angry with herself, as I had done to change her emotions away from fear and dread! After I'd hear her mumble to herself "Fkoff" several times during future attacks (quite funny if not for her suffering)! Gradually she got past it! It also helped her a lot to talk to others as she discovered that she was far from alone! Be kind to yourself and know you are not alone! Hope this helps some but I know well it is a personal journey! Hope your Canal flows with water between the banks! BestRoy

I can write a book about health anxiety. I’ve had it all my life and have been in the ER many times over the years. So I can relate and empathize with you. I take medication that helps and life is better. Eating healthy and walking works very well also. Hope you’re doing better and know you are not alone in your fight against anxiety

A highly intelligent close relative of mine suffers from acute anxiety. They have an analogy which says it's like having an app running constantly in the head that's very hard to quit. That app is called "what if", and I think you can appreciate why Colin.

Thank you Colin and Shaun for talking about an issue that can be very tricky for people to be open about. I am sure so many people will be glad they are not alone with their feelings after this vlog. It's a public service. It's easy to see how incredibly hard working you are Colin , with the high quality of your work and the consistency of your videos. I had been astonished how you could operate at that level for some time. Other KZbinrs have little breaks! Also being highly intelligent can mean you know best how to give yourself a tough time. Anyway, you are fabulous as you are, both of you and Otis. My favourite vlogs are when Silver fox was launched; when Shaun pulled the deer out of the water; on the canal lift oh! I could go on... Take care lovely fellas 😄❤️

Colin thank you for such honesty. My husband has PTSD and chronic depression and now I suffer from anxiety and I know it’s brought on by all the worry. I haven’t told my husband as his problems are much greater and he needs to at least think I’m in control when he needs it. I tell you this because I want to say Shaun you’re also amazing, I know how scary it can be at times and you so need to look after you. I have never suffered from anxiety but things have just got on top of me. Please Shaun be careful and look out for you. You’re amazing guys, thanks for being here. ❤️

In 2020 I lost all but one of my wedding bookings, as I am a self employed videographer & live events pianist. Also, I had all ready been suffering with health anxiety for over 15 years with no real help. But until 2020, I always managed to cope and push it out the way. Having lost my livelihood and purpose professionally - it manifested itself ten fold and almost destroyed me and put a huge pressure on my wife. (My elderly mother also suffered with serious mental health issues and had two mini strokes). So, after phone call counselling and meditation that slightly helped, I started on anti-depression medication. 18 months later, I am completely in a much more positive state of mind, have so much to live for and my business is coming back. I’m slowly weening off the mild strength medication and still feeling very positive and looking forward to enjoying many things in my life with my amazing wife and son. (In the bad times - I felt like I was dying and everything was wrong with me, to the point of obsessing about the most minor health issues. I suffered a lot with acid reflux, headaches, fatigue and lost almost 2 stone as a result. However, I insisted in having several medical tests, cameras down and once all of the results had come back 100% negative - it was like flipping a switch. Before this, I felt I had nothing to live for and had no desires to enjoy life. What with the whole COVID fears and so much negativity from the news - I still to this day - NEVER listen too or watch any form of news media - note listen the radio or read news online. It is so very fake, negative and one sided. I found that ignorance was bliss and still is to be honest. You only get one life, so don’t spend it worrying about ‘what if - or what might happen’ - look forward and focus on all the love and positives in your life Collin - you are an amazing open individual whom I admire tremendously. X This is my story and I am not ashamed of sharing ti with you all. Mental health is such an important issue that has been swept under the carpet for decades. It’s good to get things off of your chest and sharing feelings that have been locked up for years!

I am a very anxious person who is also high functioning and it has plagued me my whole life... I've had little to no support from friends or family and cope as best I can... it used to be drinking, but now I use cannabis which isn't a panacea and thus must be managed as well... self therapy and dialogue (talking oneself off the ledge) so to speak. Much love for those who suffer this tragedy.

Colin that was a great “Allergy”, comparing a small trickle becoming a major breach in one’s mind when dealing with any kind of mental obsessive disorder or high functioning Autism. Being conscious of it as it’s happening and still not being able to control it is pure agony and also frightening. Awareness and yet not being in control can actually drive one even deeper than being oblivious. There are days I wish I could just be blind to it. I know. I have my own inner demons as I call them. Not having control over one’s own mental thought process is just pure hell and most people will never really understand. The best thing is to have someone who loves you enough to put up with it and help you get through it. I have someone like that and I credit her with basically saving my life. You have Shaun (and Otis) and thank God for that. Give Shaun a big hug for me as he really is a sweetheart. Our love ones really have to put up with so much to keep us stable and functioning. I love you both, keep the great vlogs coming. Can’t wait to see the adventures this summer. I love seeing Otis running around like mad enjoying the beautiful outdoors of Scotland. Such a happy good dog. Thank you about being so candid. I know it’s not easy and can be embarrassing to talk about but you really are helping so many people. Knowing that your not alone with mental “issues” can make a difference. Sometimes it’s just getting through a single day. Your vlogs have helped me so much through difficult times. God bless you both. Cheers and love from Florida. 🌴🌴🌴🌴❤️👍

I don’t think anyone on the outside looking in will truly understand what it’s like to have someone close who is suffering from mental health issues . A family member of mine has Aspergers, ADHD and OCD. People on the outside looking in cannot see the pain, stress and worry it causes on a daily basis. the worst thing is there is nowhere to go for help as a 15 minute appointment now and again with a psychiatrist only makes her feel worse and all they seem to want to do is offer medication which has never worked and only causes horrible side effects. Every time the phone rings out with no reply or every time she takes to her bed I worry for the worst. She is the most beautiful and talented person I have ever met and has so much to give. I can only hope that one day she will find her place in this world and finds someone as loving as Shaun to share it with. Thank you once again for highlighting this and sharing your own story.
