My grandparents used to have these in the basement, too, until some electrician decided to replace them with more "modern" ones, as they didn't conform with some DIN/ISO standards. The jacket rack is called a Garderobenständer. It's a difficult word, because it's actually half French. "garde robe" means "watch my clothes", and "Ständer" is German and means a rack, aside of some obscene interpretation. Having the washing machine inside the kitchen isn't weird but sounds reasonable to me. I live in an old building where the washing machine is in the bathroom (where it should be), but many modern buildings don't have the necessary electric wiring, plumbing, or space to do that. And, Shraddha, I don't care what you wear. You look nice anyway. (And, yes, I'm an old white man.) You're Indian, so you have to wash, wiping is not for you? I'm German who was in India for a few months and wiping and THEN washing is what we Germans usually (should) do. But you don't get any toilet paper in the rural areas of India, so I did what my grandparents did after the big war in Europe: Buy a newspaper, and recycle it after reading as toilet paper. (No comment on journalism this time.) Your attics seem to be nice, warm, and clean. Mine is full of cobwebs and maybe spiders. Not that German spiders were poisonous to humans, there aren't any here, I just don't like them. God Almighty slept on the seventh day, so the Bible says, but do you know the word "Sonntagslaune"? Out of boredom and when you're in the mood, you invent something like creatures with eight legs and twelve eyes.
