Cairns, fairies, a hobbit house, and glacier moraines surround my house deep in the Appalachian Mountains. Because my ancestors settled here from Ireland and Scotland, these mountains call deeply to my soul.
This morning it was -7° C. and the wind was howling. The clouds had frozen on the trees and rocks during the night and it was beautiful and very eerie ... a different kind of hoarfrost than usual. I tried to capture the feel of it on film but the light was rather flat.
This video was made especially for my wonderful friends at MetelProductions. This isn't the rock field ... I'll film that for you in the spring!

Thanks so much for taking time to post your lovely, sensitive comments to both videos. Such a special thing you have done! I cannot tell you the amount of pleasure and joy it brought me for Yves-Marie to make music for this mountain. The mountain has sung to me all my life and now I find myself and my friends singing back to it... life can be purely amazing sometimes! HUGS to you!! Suze

Thanks, Jon...those kind words mean a lot coming from someone who has such a lovely channel! I've lived in treeless places before and while there is beauty to be found there as well, it doesn't enchant me the way mountains do.

Thanks, Will...that means a lot coming from you! Mountain life is not for everyone, but for me it's enchanting and filled with the absolute wonder of small and ordinary natural things. For a long time last summer, I watched bugs work a downed tree and contemplated how I could be so aware of them but they never noticed me. It makes you keep a certain perspective on yourself to be so invisible to another's busy, important world. :)

That's a beautiful love story and obviously your magical powers are working. :) Keep planting those trees and keeping spirit with the rain. And thank you for your lovely comments about this video ... I am especially fond of rocks and stones and love the cairns and stone rows that were placed on the mountains in the 1700s and 1800s ... they tell a story ...

Thank you! That is one of the most insightful and sensitive comments I've encountered. In 1998 I returned to these mountains from many years in the cities, and it was the best move ever! Life has now regained its own rhythm. If you can go to the quieter landscapes even for short periods, perhaps you can regain some of that which you seek. Each day here is new and fresh and natural and goes about its business without much regard for me. I love that! Makes me feel part of the fabric...

Very mesmerizing to watch and to listen to. The fairies are truely enjoying their life hidden away in these beautiful mountains away from all the dangers of the outside world. I wish I could live there among them in a carved out little place in a big old tree. I would invite them all in for tea.

Boone is one of the loveliest places on earth! I used to ski there every winter and also stayed in a friend's cabin on a small lake...don't remember the name...in the summers. When people love the Appalachians, it is with a deepness and a yearning that defies description. But all of us who feel it recognize it in one another. Glad you are one of the Highlanders! HUGS! Suze

Hello little Rainbow... :) My eyes adore the soft colors of winter...the hushed browns and grays of late November are so very beautiful. There is nothing so intimate as walking alone in the deep woods on a gray-sky day among the bare trees with their wet, brown leaves underfoot and that earthy, woody smell in the air.

Thanks so much, Davie...am so glad you like the video and the music. I have many Scottish ancestors ... and plate tectonics theory says that our land masses were once joined, that our mountains were once connected eons ago. The beautiful blue-green serpentine in the rocks is said to occur in only two places on earth...your western coast, our eastern coast. It's why our mountains have that blue cast to them. Pretty cool if you ask me! We may even be cousins... lol

Glad you liked the video and the music, Nancy. Hevia is one of my favorite groups...the Spanish influence tilts the Celtic stuff just right, keeps it from being too cute or sweet. What a cool thing to have in your very own back woods! I would film it and take pictures from every angle. Some of the mountain land owners here have allowed the ancient cairns to be dismantled and have sold the stones for building blocks. I cried and cried over that. So sad to lose that beautiful old history. So disrespectful!

If you feel homesick, you probably have ancestors from the mountains. :) The Appalachian Mountains range was once joined with the mountains in Scotland and western Ireland. Thanks Twish! Please visit any time... it's always teatime at my house but you gotta clean up yer own mess this time! :) The fairies stay the winter in the hobbit house and during the warm months, they live under the wild rose bushes on the mountain. Have never seen any hobbits here but all mischief on the mountain can be directly attributed to the fairies. For example, if you come visit and drink too much wine and fall off the mountain into the creek, obviously a fairy pushed you ... :)

Jess, I would be hard pressed to tell you what the mountain fairies are up to. They are here, there, everywhere...just going about and doing as they please. That little stone shelter has been there for over 100 years. The fairies are up to mischief most of the time and their presence comes in handy when folks get in the moonshine and fall off the mountain...they can say the fairies pushed them. lol
