Szin!!! As a 2nd year uni student, I'm so so happy for you that you finished college, and I can relate to the feeling of not being good enough at anything you do so much. I am studying aerospace engineering now, which is a very very useful and interesting degree that is just so random for me, because ever since I was a kid I have a very artistic side, and I always considered myself as an artist and a musician. I just convinced myself that I wasn't good enough in either of those. And that first year of uni, man.... it wasn't during quarantine, but the feeling of isolation was so real for me, which worsened my grades, which worsened my mental health, which worsened my grades. I felt like a fish out of water, I forgot that I had skills at anything, or rather, that i had skills at everything, but I was also not nearly good enough at anything I did. BUT!!! I decided to push through and this year already looks a lot better, and it has helped me realise that I do want to finish this degree, but once Im out I get to do something with my art, because you know what, art is my medium of expression and nobody gets to tell me whether it's good enough or not!

Same here in med school, first year was a nightmare of confusion and isolation, I was crying everyday and my grades suffered, it was 2021 and freshly out of pandemic. Now I feel much better and confident and I like studying medicine ^^ University friends helped a lot too

@anabanana1314 Жыл бұрын
@@everythingart7566 yeah I get that. There are students that are way more passionate at this than I am, but I'm trying my hardest to not let that affect me because there are so many cooler classes in the next few years that really interest me, and pursuing art full time just isn't an option for me right now. I would say, if you're really unhappy with your degree try to consciously see what other options you have, otherwise if it's just numbers you're worried about, try to study as much as you can, and for me, romanticising the subjects I'm studying, however boring they are, has helped a lot lmao (basically Im just gaslighting myself lol)

dude, idk why i haven't watched this until now, but i vibe with this video a lot. i'm in the tech college equivalent of art school (graphic design) and i thought i'd be making silly little pictures and designs and placing them on paper, but NO. i know about so many kinds of industrial printers, how to operate them, post office regulations, paper weights and thicknesses, how to use microsoft excel for variable data, types of cameras and every single function on them, and how to work in like 10 adobe softwares. i can agree with confidence that indesign is a nightmare program, and i hope it witnesses the heat death of the universe. .... anyways, good to see you posting stuff again, szin, i'm loving the webtoons series 🤙

Looks like you and I are more or less the same age All through school I was a “gifted kid” which basically meant that I grew up never learning how to study and having a massive ego Then when high school started and all the advanced classes required studying that I didn’t know how to do, suddenly, I was SCREWED I floated through high school taking easy classes because I preferred feeling smart without putting in the effort And my whole childhood I seriously struggled with the concept of higher education. For reference, my entire family is made of doctors, nurses, lawyers, programmers, business owners, engineers, and managers. Really scientific people who tackle hard issues and put in a lot of work. I… was the dark horse. I was the artist of the family, but I was never so good that I felt comfortable seeking employment as an artist, or even going to school for it to be good enough for that, because I was terrified of art, my hobby, becoming a job, a chore. That scared me and still does I graduated high school in 2020 and went to community college that same year to try and earn some credits and buy myself some time to try and figure my life out. Two months in I had a mental breakdown Halloween night I was in an intense manic episode, took a bunch of pills that I had been skipping, and gave myself a high with an overdose on serotonin. I wasn’t in actual risk of dying, but it sure did feel like it. I had never felt happier and full of hope, and my heart was racing and it was hard to breathe. Cue my second stint in a psychiatric ward (high school was difficult for me mentally) After I got out, I dropped out of school. The pressure had been too much. I hated what I was doing, I still didn’t understand how to study, I wasn’t learning things in a way that made me happy, and I LOVE learning things. Honestly, I’d say I probably know the most eclectic information in my whole family. But pushing myself to learn things in a way I hated without knowing what my end goal was, was crushing. Now, at the end of 2023, I’ve moved into an apartment with my older brother who is just finishing his bachelors degree. I’ve been working pretty much full time for the past two and a half years, and to be honest, I have no intention of going back to school. The first person in my family in four generations. Yeah, I’m still working through a lot of emotions and pressure around that. Family and family friends are constantly berating me and pushing me about it, but I’m standing firm. All this to say, we all have different paths in life and sometimes the norm or the situation you’re in doesn’t cater to your needs. The pandemic crushed a lot of people and stymied their goals. It’s been a long journey and I’m still on it when it comes to accepting my limitations due to mental and physical illness. For my own happiness and well-being, I have to do things my way, even at the cost of acceptance and support. Chances are, the world isn’t going to end tomorrow. And it’s not going to end the day after that, either. We have time. We have time, and that’s all we have. That’s why it’s important to do what makes us happy, to be kind and gentle with ourselves, to find what gives our life meaning. We only have this life, so fuck expectations. Do what brings you joy without causing pain and screw anyone who tells you differently. We are all doing our best out here. Love and peace to all

I also started college back in 2020 but I spent the first 2 years doing a bunch of classes for my AA degree before finally starting the classes for my art major between 2 schools only for it to destroy my self confidence in my art skills and made me reevaluate my career choice. It was basically because I mostly did art as a hobby before starting, often compared myself to other students during class, and this one particular class that had left me tired and frustrated by the end of it. So anyway, I realized I would rather keep doing art as a hobby and switched my major to film, and now I'm currently trying to become a scriptwriter for TV, animation, and games.

It really doesn't matter 👀 I've always thought you have a huuge talent for storyboarding and (if you haven't taken any classes on that in school) you should take a course on that and apply to studios! YOU’RE BAAAAAAAACK!!!! I completely understand the whole “this is what i’m supposed to be good at and do, but I suck for some reason” feeling cause i feel that right now in the middle of making a portfolio and looking at examples they look so professional and I barely do art like I want to because for the last 3 years yeah i’ve taken art classes, in school, but school is the reason why i still barely draw! And yes I have some techniques down but I feel like i’m only good at copying photos or other examples when I really want to make my own original artworks.. but then that’s also a skill issue cause I just don’t! So it sucks and i’m very scared of my chances idek if i want to go to an art school either. SoooOrry for the mini rant, congrats on your degree!!

I'm on my first session of art college (in Canada) and man i'm STRUGGLING. My classes are: drawing, painting, sculpture, art critique, introduction to photoshop (and making GIFs). I'm alright in all of them, but the feeling of not being good enough does hit hard. Got a better grade at a painting than my other friends, but still my work wasn't exposed (they often expose the first year's best projects on the corridors of the department). So I saw my friend getting her paint exposed, was very happy for her, but still didn't get why mine wasn't. Same for drawing class once, etc. It feels as if even if I'm technically doing a great performance, it's never enough because I'm just not so creative as my classmates. Art college is fun and my friends are so fun and amazing, but I feel that they do put a pressure on the students to be competitive, specially with those expositions' thing.

Random college guy here, this was really funny to watch along as its incredibly accurate with the exception that covid for me was during senior high. Like szin I was super hyped to start fresh at this new school, meet new friends, maybe get a girlfriend, heck I even introduced myself with the name I never used up till now because I was sure nobody recognized me there. But then bam, my glorious reemergence got thrown back home along with me and there I sat for two years sleeping and barely passing subjects because it was BORING AF. Also as a side jab, turns out there were 4-5 people who transferred there with me and smirked when they heard people call me by a different name. But yeah, this was a really cool video, I originally knew szin through hamilton animatics but you have me looking forward for the next parts. See ya!

Ah man this sums it up to a T, I'm in a completely different part of the world over in the U.S, and I'm attending a technical college - because tuition here is way too expensive - and I'm going for an Associates in Art. I'm almost finished, but wow this has been the most stressful thing I have ever done. I completely understand how hard it is to feel not nessesarily confident, but at the very least capable, just to go into these classrooms or meet with professors and have that love for art knocked down to the bare minimum. I just met with my former high school AP Art teacher, and showed this poor man the paintings and such I have been doing this past semster, and he seemed so sad almost? He even made the comment asking why they had me painting such silly trivial things. And by no means was he ever a "create to your hearts content" kind of teacher, but he was a huge advocate for putting a part of yourself or something you love and enjoy into your work. And I think college art has the complete opposite approach, where instead of embracing our own talents and abilities, we're left to fit into a box that other artists set, such as the historical figures. Really for me that's been my biggest gripe, alongside the cruel due dates and lack of support in these classes. It all feels so surreal but it certainly has created a negative outcome for me. I don't even really feel a desire to be creative, everything I look at now it's like an analyzation of "okay how would I translate this onto a sheet of paper or onto a canvas in a convincing and non-wavering way", and the joy of sitting down and spilling out all of those little brain-rot thoughts and ideas onto paper just isn't there anymore. Art College is just weird honestly.

I'm in art school too and I really relate to feeling like everyone around you is so good at art and doing so well and here you are struggling so much. I think doing it remotely really adds to it because you can't befriend your fello students and talk about this kinda stuff. But I've tried brining this up to my classmates and I haven't met and art school student who hasn't felt like this. We're all struggling. We all have imposter syndrome. We'll all be just fine. 🖤

this video really reminded me of my qUarANtiNe art high school experience. art school really makes no sense online. i went through like 50 mental breakdowns and even tho i love being in my room 24/7 i hated staying in it for 1,5 year:DDD all my basics like anatomy, lettering, sculpting basics were taught during online classes and i learned like n o t h i n g. and was literally making corel notes (kill me) from a 10 years old youtube tutorials made by some old guy. so i really understand your pain:( take care! i really enjoyed this video
