Why are you learning ASL?

Love your channel! This video made me respect and appreciate you even more. As a kid I actually really admired action heroes in film, and thought learning Sign would be a super cool skill to have 🙈 but as I grew up I didn’t have Internet and didn’t know how search for language learning resources. We were lucky we had French offered in high school. Post college I started picking up French again, along with Norwegian. It’s hard not to start studying all the languages at once! But as I get comfortable with the initial TLs, I’ve started looking into Spanish and ASL out of necessity. Three of my family members are becoming hard of hearing all at once. One knows ASL, another hasn’t used it in awhile but is picking it up again, and another is going to study the same time as me. Now that I have study habits and the know-how to acquire learning resources, it’s a slow plunge into ASL! Something drew me to your channel over a lot of the big name school pages. Your videos are encouraging and just the right length/pace. It feels like learning with a friend rather than an instructor. Thanks for sharing your ASL journey with us!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a nice comment! I am so happy that you like my channel. I have honestly been struggling to find the motivation lately to keep going, but hearing someone say that they are benefiting from my channel means so much. I find it hard to have the motivation and develop the habits even with having a channel that a post what I've learned. Reading your comment definitely makes me want to do better at continuing to learn and teach my son. Thank you so much and I wish you all the best in your ASL learning journey!
