HONESLTY! I agree finally someone who I can relate to. I really loved what Jenn said about baby showers, and empowerment in planning your own. Someone one said to me "omg you're planning your own bachelorette party, that so sad what about your friends" and I felt SO judged. But I realize now the planning was because I know what I like, what is in my budget and what works best for me. I feel Jenn has opened up more than ever and she is truly amazing for it! Cant wait to plan my own baby shower one day!

Jenn, I LOVE that you organized your own baby shower. Sometimes tradition just doesn't make the most sense. Not everyone has a mother or a sister that is able to throw a baby shower for you... And I have always felt weird about the concept of burdening or expecting one's closest friends to take on planning such an event... Your shower was beautiful!!! :) Congratulations!!

I actually love this too! I depended on others when I got married. I was severely disappointed. (Not in a bratty way that had ridiculous standards …more like mom didn’t help until last minute just to criticize my husband’s efforts, sister denied my request to be a bridesmaid, bridesmaids didn’t buy a gift or attempt/attend a shower or bachelorette, several family members and church members didn’t show up to wedding) Yeah it was sad. Lol

YES and I feel similarly abt other events! I used to get all sad waiting for my friends to do something for my birthday, for example (very hs stuff haha), but I’ve since discovered the empowerment and joy that comes from planning celebrations myself. 🥳 We know exactly what we want and there’s none of that “waiting for someone else to ~make~ you happy” stuff.

I feel like if I ever became pregnant I’d feel somewhat like what you feel? most pregnant people are so like enthusiastic and so positive all time about being pregnant and I mean this is nicest way but you seem so like “meh” and chill about it and ready like just pop the kid out and I love that!! Most super enthusiastic, bubbly pregnant women are hiding their fear, I'm sure. Speaking as a mom, we're all scared shitless going into parenthood but the norm is to hide it well. I wish society would change and let parents be humans, not just parents. You're allowed to be happy for the blessing and horrified, tired, sad, frustrated etc. at the same time. Same with parenting. You can love your kids to the moon and back but have big "MEH" parenting days, days when you just don't want to do the mom thing. Totally normal! It's not all magic, even though lots of moms pretend it is so!

Yes yes yes. I got married last year at a courthouse and had my guests attend via zoom. It was stress free, easy, and very affordable! Just spent money on steaks and seafood boil. My cake was from a Korean bakery nearby and it was simple and delicious. No need to fuss over how things are supposed to go.

So awesome! Im 37 weeks so we are close in our pregnancies it seems. My baby shower was at 28 weeks. And it was definitely good to have it before I was super pregnant. I didn't plan my own but I'm not someone who likes planning. It stresses me out a bit so my mom, sister, and sister in law all planned and threw for me which I was really happy with. Giiiirl. Fellow Virgo here (I think we have the same birth date too), and I totally feel you on not wanting to wait around for someone to volunteer to plan and throw a shower for you. I'm currently 37 weeks and had 2 showers (one with each side of the family) a few weeks ago. I planned the majority of my showers with my sister in laws and my sisters. Since this is my first child, I also wanted things to have a say in decor, food, etc. One of our baby showers also mimicked our wedding - lots of pale pink, tons of greenery and eucalyptus!

I ended up being lucky and having two showers held for me, my cousin held my first one in my home town with family and old friends which was really lovely and thought out, then my work friends in my new city held one for me close to my due date and that was so special and meant the world. I will be definitely paying that forward to them when their next big life event comes up. As for holding your own, I see it as amazing! you would also be able to experience and create something so fun which you definitely did!
